The stream was a bit rocky at first ... but settled in. I liked their approach and appreciated the space of a small ensemble, but thought they could've benefited from another "main" instrument.

Sounds like it was more like an okay night in Harlem.

Arguably one of the most talented back up bands he's ever had -- and instead of jazzy jammy songs in funky time signatures he plays a country ballad, spoken word, and blues? In a cowboy hat. At the Apollo.

Curveball Bobby strikes again. God bless him. Crazy white boy.

I thought the show (the whole show) was fantastic. Bobby closed it out and while it wasn't exactly high energy, or high-level jazz, they pulled it together just fine. Not epic, but not bad at all. The Lovelight to close out the show was a fitting closer. I'd love to see Bob continue to explore his Jazz side.

The Sun Ra portion was excellent. Saw them in LA a few months ago in a nondescript club (without Marshall Allen), they are still doing their thing for those who seek it out. How cool.

Marshall Allen will turn 100 years old on May 24th.  Makes Willie look young.
