Paul Winter's Winter Solstice NYC

Forums:

Every year for 37 years Paul Winter has done these shows at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in NYC. I went a few years in the 90's when Mickey Hart was a guest. A really cool and good time to be had. I was standing right next to Mickey one time as he was watching the show. Short guy. I didn't bother him though. Highly recommended experience.

There is a dispute about whether this cathedral or Liverpool Cathedral is the world's largest Anglican cathedral and church. It is also the fourth largest Christian church in the world.(from wiki)

I have always wanted to go to this.

The Morning Dew Radio show had broadcast portions way back when.

That’s how I heard of it.

Thanks for the current information.

My wife goes almost every year and has brought me along several times.

Always an amazing array of international musicians in an amazing room

Here's Mickey, Philip Glass and Kitaro there one year. Didn't know about this one.

One year, I went to Paul Winter Carnevale (Mardi Gras) at the cathedral. Mickey, tripping balls, was featured with a Brazilian samba band, stilt walkers, all kinds of madness on parade in that huge space. Way fun.

One of the actresses I work with regularly works as a production assistant for Paul Winter when he comes to NYC.

Kitaro was filling in for an ailing MIles Davis that night. Was very other worldly musical experience, reminiscent of Pink Floyd...

I was dancing with the giant puppets at that time, was really fun. Mickey had those metallic sculprured skeleton statues wired to synthesizers when he hit them with his drum pads...so cool...

I think I was at that one also Zeke. It was early 90's when Jerry was still alive and Mickey was on a platform like cart with wheels being pushed down the aisle towards the stage by some longhair while he was beating on a drum. Bought some shrooms outside.

The one in I think 99 was the best with Mickey playing that metal Christmas tree while his little daughter danced on stage.
