Phil & Q at the Cap, March 6th, 2024, Weds show

Forums:

It's time for the 2nd show with the Q this week.  Many are worried about Phil's health!  Will there be a donor rap tonight???  Will Phil stand or sit more???

Either way, buckle up for a night of exquisitely danceable wonderPhil music!!!

Can someone tell me why Monday's stream was $19.99 and tonight's is $24.99?

Bite me, Shappy.

Dynamic pricing ... have you been living in a cave? ;-)

The first price is before fees, the 2nd price with fees.

No, on Monday, it was $19.99 + $5.95 in fees ($25.94). Tonight is $24.99 + $5.95 in fees ($30.94).

Really???  damn!

> have you been living in a cave?

I told you earlier that I had figured out how to live well on the cheap.

LOL good one Mikecheeky

So, what does the group mind think? Sitting On Top of the World opener tonight?

The Q from 2002: https://archive.org/details/2002-03-29.paf.neumann.boden-miller.8713.sbe...

>>>Bite me, Shappy<<<

You know that he's the only reason the Hallowed Q are playing, and that these shows are happening at all, right?

If you want to take, you've got to give.

Gosh, Lance, I would've said that Phil's the only reason. Shappy's just a facilitator.

I bought all 5 nts.  Grateful price.

I bought all 5 nts.  Grateful price.

I just got the Q. The lineup for the 13th is a snoozer. Not expecting much lineup wise for the last two shows either.

I went for all 5 nights too...    "this could be the last time, I don't know"

Long live Phil.
Fuck $happy.
He's cornered & monetized every inch of the magic.

Woz, your welcome to your opinion.  Kras is phantastic with Graham, Molo, Crosby.  Some real dead sing alongs, not just jamming.  I love the 'Q'. Don't get me wrong.  But other persona with Phil work too.  I'm gonna enjoy the streams to remember and enjoy being there for shows 13,15,16 with neph, Tom and all the gang... All have PHUN tonight.

TTB on mixlr sounding good

Switched to Cosmic Country

I'm with you, Woz. I'll pay for A List friends, and hope for mixlrs of the others.

I like Krasno both personally and professionally, but he and Graham on Dead tunes leaves me flat.

>>>Can someone tell me why Monday's stream was $19.99 and tonight's is $24.99?

The Fans.live streams usually go up by $5 on the day of the show in my experience. Yesterday it was $19.99.

I just caught a super slapping Kras set - Jimi's Dead - on Jam Cruise.  It was pretty pretty pretty awesome, I wouldnt sleep on that lineup.

Long live Phil.
Fuck $happy.

huge disagree. most of the only times phil brings out a serious band in a big venue these days is for shappy shows. if the east coast didnt have peter shapiro, all you guys would have is terrapin family band at best, and at worst you'd have no phil at all on the east coast. id give up an arm and a leg to get shapiro out here on the west coast convincing phil to play with good bands, bringing JRAD around, etc etc. IME the vast majority of non-shapiro shows in the past 5 or so years have been extremely underwhelming compared to pre-furthur PLF, mostly due to phils desire to not only play music with his son, but for some inexplicable reason, all his son's friends. its been a disaster for the quality of music and improvisation. the main person who seems to be the most effective at dialing this back and getting some better lineups in a bigger venue is shapiro.

its been fun to shit on shapiro over the years, but now that we are staring the end in the face, its VERY clear to me that shapiro was a significant driving force in keeping the experience of big shows with hard hitting improv alive. if it wasnt for shapiro, y'all would be listening to phil and grahame sing lullabies to babies in a park or some shit like we get over here on the west coast. count your blessings, and shapiro is a blessing at this point.

Give the taper some space!

Please don't dominate the rap, Slack.

I think someone fell onto the Mixlr streamer, according to the comments ... balcony fall?

i dont see how anyone can continue to hate on shappy when you look at all the awesome shows he's helped put on over the years and compare it to what was coming out of TXR in the later years of the venue. outside of 1 or 2 TXR runs, shappy is why we have gotten more Q shows at all.

TBH who cares if streams are expensive? its a service that's aimed at people who are paying money for something they know will be willingly given to them for free mere days to weeks later. ive already listened to portions of the 4th for free. IMO these livestream type things are a great way for phil and shappy to cash in on the custies.

you east coasters do not understand the incredible blessing peter shapiro has given you all over the years because you did not experience how mediocre and boring the alternative was.

That lineup needs Stu Allen, and it would be very close to The 1/13/24 Warfield show, which was a nice show. The only difference is on the Keyboards and Jason Crosby would be an upgrade.

Very nice to see a Schnee post! The Q brings out the best.

And good to know you're still rocking the cruise shows Ms. Schnee. I'm wondering if you cross paths with some friends/old work mates of mine who work many of those events, as well as most of the Mexico events and other festivals.....

Stage hand/stage manager Chung K. & security peeps Maria L. and Sean H.

I'm out of the biz now, but I love that many of my old compadre's continue to toil in the trenches.

Carry on!

Oh, and...

"I Know You Rider"

Got on the stream in time to hear that one, sounded pretty good to me.

Given the mass hysteria generated from one shaky night by an 84-year-old man, Phil should have opened the show with it.

Was the Wheel chorus opener a subtle nod to the inevitable ravages of time, re: Monday night's show?

All these years later and they're still chasing Tears of a Clown.

Epic show, woot!

Helluva show. The Q kicked ass. If that's their last one, they did it up right.

The whole show rocked, second set took off  a 3rd to 1/2  way thru. Passenger and into the mystic headed to another planet in the middle of dark star.

Just fucking awesome!

Happy for everyone's positive experience!

Do you think the 2 setlists were written by the same person?

Stark difference in energy and tempo between the 2 performances.

Woah....Nellie !!
What a night, saw many zoners and the vibe was amazing !! We were front row balcony and had some amazing show neighbors <3

Back at room, eating Taco Paco and slumber soon.

Druba, I saw you from my seat...always bringing the music to us :) Thanks for setlist...my brain is on fire right now...lol

Did I saw Ohhh Wow !! My breath was taken a few times tonight. !

Very Blessed to have been witness to this show >>>

Love to al, back to my Tacos !!

Ohhh, Warrens son Hunter was in the box in front of us...with all of friends !  It was adorable how Warren would wave over to him <3

They were having a blast

Just got home.

Wow, that show gave me all the feels... in so many ways.

I really love this band.

Just home .... Phil looked and sounded good, sung much of the 1st set like he had something to prove.

I also feel that - if this was the last time for the Q, or last time I see Phil - it was a solid way to go.

Donor rap and band bow at the end was just right

Buncha' lemmings.

Nice review Donster. Wish I was there. Looks like a great set list. Happy Birthday Phil.

Long Live Phil

Till we see each other again

Happy Birthday

They knocked it out of the park last night!  Gonna take a while to come down from that!!!

 Nice grooving with you Cumberlyn!

Fantastic Q last night, what a difference from the Monday show.  I think Phil felt 10 years younger!  He messed up on Unbroken Chain and apologize to the audience for that, but otherwise an amazing performance.  It looked like he had some ear monitor technical difficulties at one point.   Go Phil!

Great show.  Definitely worth standing in the cold rain to find one of the few tickets looking for a home. I got my ass kicked twice.  Once by the weather and once by the band!  It was nice to hear a hundred people shushing the audience so we could enjoy the quiet parts.  One of the better crowds for a sold out night at the Capitol Theatre.   Mid week shows can be the finest.

We got very lucky, Phil did not attend the soundcheck, Kevin from Mule soundchecked with the band ,with Phil  no where in site. It was being said that Phil was exhausted, and would not play, Everyone was so excited when he walked out. Kevin was on stand by the entire night in the wings and only finally appeared in Shappiros box at the last song,  I felt we got a strong showing lucky that Phil made it out to play. Not an easy feat at 84 to play almost 4 hours..Great to see so many old school Zoners...

Great show from home on the couch, they really sounded like the Q last night!

I sooooooooooooooooooo much enjoyed last night's show.  Phil and the 'Q' are the best.  Long live PHIL.  Love yah PHIL.

Home safe in S Jersey....still glowing and pain has faded a bit <3. I did cry happy tears a few times....they just move me to the core of my being, like all of you !

Masonskids...so sweet to meet you ( Low spark moment...you know your music my new friend :) ) wonderful show partner and a zoner at that ! Hope your travels were good and I'll see again you soon,,,for sure !

Keep what is worth keeping, and with a breath of kindness, blow the rest away ~ wild rose !

i dont see how anyone can continue to hate on shappy<<<

I've never hated him (nor anyone for that matter), but I will likely always remain suspect of someone who doesn't install a water fountain in one of his venues (LVBB).

Even if Jerry has been secretly living on a remote island and Shappy brought him back for an actual reunion of the Grateful Dead (lets call Jeff a full member), I still wouldn't forget about the water.

I will likely always remain suspect of someone who doesn't install a water fountain in one of his venues (LVBB).

LOL! That made me laugh but upon reflection, it is pretty lame!

The Capitol Theater used to have a water cooler and cups on the floor up front.  Stage right and left if I remember correctly. This was great when it got hot and folks minds started to undergo sublimation. I think Covid killed the self serve there.  Pretty sure the bar will give a cup of water if asked.
The Brooklyn Bowl, one of Peter's earlier venues still has free water at the bar in a cooler with cups present.
It's there.  You just gotta poke around....

i dont see how anyone can continue to hate on shappy<<<

When the Brooklyn Bowl opened in Philly, I attended George Porter Jr/Krasno <3

I was coming off the elevator and in the hall...there was Peter Shapiro and I, no one else ( It was early). I said to him, : " Hey Shappy"...lol !  He replied " Who is this lil red headed ball of energy" I introduced myself, explained how we are big Cap  attendees and love his venue. I thanked him for bringing the BB/Philly here as I can no longer drive to NY...and I can attend this venue solo.

We chatted for a bit and I asked him why there was NO ADA seating ?  He looked at me and said " Woah we do not have that figured out yet " That nite the VIP was off to side, he asked for my hand and put a VIP wristband on it :)...I thanked him and he said...now you will hang out with me tonight !!

It was SO much fun, he introduced me to so many folks. I am now a regular attendee to where security knows me well, the VIP that nite was changed to ADA for future shows. We are all friends in the ADA and I love that venue.

It was a great experience meeting him, down to earth and super kind. If you are in Philly, check out the venue. Many of my local musician friends play there....great vibe.

Just my personal take on Peter Shapiro :)

Oooooh, the Shappy-haters aren't going to like THAT story Lynn.

BTW, nice to see you posting and hearing that you're getting out to & enjoying shows. Keep on choogLyn'!!!

And I'd bet that there is free water available at the bars at the Vegas Brooklyn Bowl. Public drinking fountains are disgusting, do they even build them into modern venues?

I don't suppose anyone stuck around Port Chester for the Porno for Pyros show tonight. A pity, as I'm sure that show ROCKED!

And Perry probably didn't need to sit down once.

Carry on.

> I'd bet that there is free water available at the bars at the Vegas Brooklyn Bowl

You'd win that bet, Lance, and they even included ice. That doesn't change my opinion of Shappy though, but I wouldn't call myself a hater.

first of all, there was a taperrob stream

dunno how one would have gotten it, tho, lol do'h

2ndly, the Q is, has always been, and, Providence Willing, will continue to, in some form or fashion ever again be, Sharing the Power and the Glory with Us

the Quintet members know it, We know it, and 99.3% of the rest of the audience knew it those nights

these 2 shows had a very early and og Q feel to me,

weds, musically, OFF THE CHAIN

these boys ELEVATE on every level together and these 2 shows were no exception

ubc had it's roughness, all those words and Phil nearly never forgets or flubs, and the finish was DEVASTATINGLY STRONG

first night only had 1 song, the real thing. that was smoke breakable for me!

second night was A~>Z Phil LEADING THE BAND and giving a YUGE ZONER SALUTE to anyone who doubted his SUPAHLIVERFIERCEASSCODYMAGIC to the point where, prebandintro>donor rap, you could see they set him up to sit down, but Phil did not return until the chair was backed off and the mic stood UP for him to tell Us, for the never too many time(s), how WE COMPLETE THE CIRCUIT, to quote the BeLoved HuckStar,

"The Quality of Energy Exchanged"

and these two nights were the purest of Quality (see what i did there)

setlist, musical intertwinery, love and Respect exuded by the rest of The Boys, and Phil's sheer and unadulterated piscean zesty prankster joyousness Made for Excellence on every level.

Zoner highlights:

willy T, always!

MYHOMERRI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! girl i so much flippen adore you: words cannot suffice

YOU WILL BE AT PHIL'S 84th

TRAILHEAD (not from VT) and your oh so lovely Wife, were such a pleasure to see and share the dancefloor whenver we did

spotted Mrs 6er, who is just a lovely human person

hmmm, oh and Shakedown14!

like her, other lowkey/lurkertype/lesserknown Zoners who thrill me to the Core when we have those (((showHugs)))

there was a shitty incident with a guard from weds that was the only negative experience of my time. left a message with the GM and said a VIP tic for weds (the only night i am not in yet) would be a good way to resolve it. never hurts to try! plus, the guy was a for real limpdick who was unnecessarily unprofessional for no valid reason.

anyhoo, i am sad not to have seen ya, BURNZIE! usually we run into each other in the smoking zone, but moonday was too good to leave mostly and weds was such a wetass rainstorm... see ya next week hopefully (:

VIVA LE PHIL

Lance I was jonesing about missing P4P last night !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a heads up. The shows from this week are still available to view on fans.live.

Peter Shapiro has been the single most generous and kind supporter of all my Listener-Sponsored Non-Profit Radio Stations for decades. He has sent more happy Freaks to shows of all kinds at The Cap, LOCKN and other stuff via my Radio affiliations. He's a cool dude, and suffers from the same knee-jerk reactionaries' who want to pick him and people like Bill Graham apart from earth shattering issues like water fountains. Good luck getting free anything from John Scher in his day. Bill Graham was Peter's mentor, and they are both visionaries.
