State Of The Union

Forums:

Well from the reviews, it looks like a couple of octogenarians had good nights this week.

But that response was so weird. Almost felt like a bad and dramatic infomercial actor was chosen.

I thought "fighting Joe" did a good job...    I couldn't stomach the response and moved on.   Haven't checked out the spin yet.

The spin is strong.... and nauseating.

>>>and nauseating<<<

Is there anything about any part of this that ISN'T nauseating???

(That's the totality of my political commentary)

I thought the state of the union speech was always in January??

I watched about a half hour. Most I've watched since Obama.  Joe sounded good.

In a truly enlightened society though,  the  talking points would've included continued funding for psychedelics in mental healthcare,  with doobie smoke filling the chamber, and all members bringing their own stash from home, along with their own Visine and Funions.

Due to the lack of this, imo, it is nauseating, and i always feel like Send in the Clowns should be on a loop throughout the entire show, no matter who's at the podium. I miss Carlin.

I didn't watch, and plan to only give US politics a minimal amount of attention this year. I hope Biden prevails in the fall, and Trump catches at least one criminal conviction, but beyond those things, I'm not much interested in the day-to-details of this farce anymore. That shit just don't pay.

"I'll give Biden this - he at least gave a better speech than Katie Britt,"

^ the Hoovers?

When Britt was running she had a spot that consisted of her sitting with her very scared looking daughter while Britt described the kid's hallucination seeing a giant face of Jebus in a thunderstorm.

Talk about nauseating, how about Trump calling Democrats Marxists and he will purge the government of the "disloyal".  Fill the military with loyalists, deport "millions", invite Putin to attack allies.

Much, much, more.  And please spare me the Garcia quote, not voting for the lesser evil allows the greater evil to win.  That makes sense?

That makes me sick to my stomach.  Some of you...

Republicans always showcase their minorities for these responses. Only 8% of federally elected officials are Republican women. I can just see what happened in the planning meeting for this. Let's have her address the country from a kitchen. If they didn't have so much power they would be adorable in how fucking clueless they are.

If you think any of them have your best interests in mind, your blind. They've ALL got blood on their hands

Why can they use insider trading in their personal lives, but cannot invest our tax money by using that insider info? If you're going to be crooked, cut me in.

>>>>They've ALL got blood on their hands

Pretty impossible to live in a first world country without having blood on your hands. I'm for the people who are at least working toward less blood on their hands as opposed to those who see blood on your hands as a virtue.

That's the lesser of two evils, as mentioned

^  Yeah, but isn't the underlying reality that the world is a dangerous and violent place to begin with?

I suspect impossible decisions are why (most) Presidents get gray hair.

Likewise, isn't it inherently impossible for any President to have everyone's individual interests in mind?

Having said that, I do believe Biden "gets it"  and is trying and work toward something better for the US / world as a whole.   While he might enjoy the schmoozing after the SOTU and other related benefits, I suspect being President again (with all of the baggage) at this stage of the game, for him, wouldn't be his first choice if we weren't in such a bind.

So classy.

Please don't hate on Karen in the kitchen for giving an awkward, bipolar, warbling, nonsensical SOTU retort

She's the best senator Alabama has

I don't think it's complicated. I'm against this guy who currently meets with Trump getting control.

is that the brahphacy?

I remember when some of you anti-types thought the SC gutting the Voting Rights act was a good idea.  How's that working out?

No Democrat ever passed bills to ban teaching history, to discriminate against LGBTQ, stripped universities of diversity, gutted public school money, or packed courts at all levels with fuckwads who want to govern with the Old Testament.

The "both parties are the same" horseshit is disingenuous at best, stupid and dangerous at worst.

It's ok to hate the only choice you're presented with

Instead, focus on which outcome you will hate more

"President Biden's call for cannabis reform in his State of the Union Address was a milestone moment in the history of the sector. In a fiery speech, which kicked off his re-election bid, Biden not only referred to his edict to review marijuana rescheduling but also the mass pardons he has issued for thousands of people with possession convictions."

I haven't seen anyone saying both parties are the same.

^ He also said we would be curing cancer in his next term

Someone should invent a magical way to link these two themes together somehow...

^^^^ I think Big Pharma has already made that $$$ connection, yes?

Don't know about anyone else, but when Biden said that I enjoyed a little puff. ;-)

Kind of hoping the Nuge gets invited to play at the RNC this year. Between him and DJT's inability to keep their mouths shut, it could be the shitshow to end all shitshows.

This song is dedicated to all that MAGA pussy out there...

someone i spoke to was hopeful after his speech, i listened to zero of it, and was glad it made my friend feel good at least

finally a few folks are waking up and having no confidence over joe for his israeli war propping uppery, as if the other guy will not be inifintely worse on every level, ya know, beginning with that whole nepotistic faux theocratic autocratic dynasty thing, but i digress

bottom line is we must vote for ol joe

no matter how many elections this has been my mantra:

this time we truly have no choice

oligarchy beats autocracy

OMG. How pathetic. Now they find out new details of that most horrific story of the 12 year-old girl Sen Britt exploited for political gain in the response.

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/katie-britts-border-trafficking-anecdote-...

From the story:

The actual content of the story is heart-wrenching. As Britt told it, she traveled to Texas just after taking office last year and “spoke to a woman who shared her story with me.”

“She had been sex trafficked by the cartels starting at the age of 12,” Britt said, going on to outline horrific acts of sexual violence that the woman said she endured as a child.

“We wouldn’t be okay with this happening in a third-world country,” Britt said with dramatic flair. “This is the United States of America, and it is past time, in my opinion, that we start acting like it. President Biden’s border policies are a disgrace. This crisis is despicable.”

There are a few problems with Britt’s framing of the story, though.

Britt did not name the abuse survivor in her State of the Union rebuttal directly, but Britt’s communications director, Sean Ross, confirmed to The Washington Post that the story was about an activist named Karla Jacinto Romero, as Katz had suggested.

While Britt made it seem like an example of recent lawlessness caused by Biden-era policies, the abuse Romero endured happened two decades ago, when George W. Bush was president. That fact alone has led many people on social media to ask how Biden can be to blame.

As he explained in his now-viral video, Katz unearthed a press release from Sen. Marsha Blackburn’s (R-Tenn.) office dated Jan. 11, 2023 — shortly after Britt was sworn in — describing a trip to Texas. Blackburn, Britt and Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) traveled to the southern U.S. border to assess the migrant situation Republicans have been railing against since Biden took office.

A photograph in the press release showed the senators holding a roundtable discussion alongside a Mexican congresswoman, a Fox News contributor and Romero. Britt later released a video from the trip showing her hugging the activist.

For years, Romero has been telling her story to raise awareness about sex trafficking — she also shared it during a congressional hearing in 2015.

In that sworn testimony nine years ago, Romero said that she was forced to have sex with thousands of men over four years of her life, starting at the age of 12, until she was rescued in 2008. Bush would have been president throughout that time.

Further, while Britt implied in her speech that Romero’s abuse had taken place in the United States, Romero testified that it actually happened entirely in Mexico. She made no mention of drug cartels.

well, well

bless her heart

Gotta see this. Scarlett Johansson as Katie Britt on the SNL cold open.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCfLpuLdF8Q    She even talks about the BS I posted above.

yikes Migrants in my fridge...

LOL

This whole kitchen thing , to be fair a shit ton of parties end up in the kitchen.

Britt is more educated than most of her cohort, and destined to lose her license  to practice law after hitching her faux kitchen table  to the house of  MAGA

preggers and barefoot in the kitchen would have been a better look for Britt and the GOP...

Nice job by Scarlett and the SNL writers to come up with that in 48 hours.

Joe was right on.

And fuck his scumbag opponent. Even John McCain didn't want nothing to do with that motherfucker. Too bad McCain isn't still around to say, "Yeah well, I like guys that don't get indicted."
