The Vernal Equinox Is Today

Forums:

Winter is officially over at 8:06 p.m. Pacific Time.  The last four days have seen record high temps and copious sunshine in Seattle.  The trees are budding, with the Cherry Trees already approaching their peak.  It's beautiful now, but with the low amounts of precipitation and snowpack, we are looking at drought conditions and the high chance of another smoke-filled Summer ahead.

The first day of spring normally falls on March 21, but 2024 is a leap year so it moves up a day

Equal amounts of daytime / nighttime.

(((((((((((( Compromise ))))))))))))

Even the universe "gets it"...

We're having warm sunny days, too. Remember a few years ago when we shockingly had about a foot of snow on March 20th.

It's beautiful here. The trees have leaf and flower buds, the bulbs and other perennial spring flowers are blooming; it's a refreshing time, with more rain soon.

Not to belabor the obvious, but wouldn't that be tomorrow?

It often falls on the 20th. Nothing holding it down to one date, it seems.

yeah, tomorrow is the first day of spring

today; March 19th, at 8:06 pm PST is equinox

However this means the actual moment of equinox technically occurs at 3:06 am in universal decimal time on Wednesday March 20th.

The Northern Hemisphere’s spring — or vernal — equinox can land between March 19 and 21, depending on the year.

the day is near and dear to me and there has always been some misinformation around the Vernal Equinox dates in general..its usually 3/20 , which i know as today is my birthday...by the by - it is FUCKING SNOWING RIGHT NOW AS I TYPE at 3:36 PM in North East PA...

now, back to the date..yeah, it floats but for more years than not it falls on 3/20 - 44 of the last 58 have been on 3/20....
