Just finished this short series last night, and my biggest take away was that I had no idea that The Oklahoma City bombing was in direct response to Waco timed to be on the same day the government went in to take down the Branch Dividians. I always thought Oklahoma City was timed to be around tax time not Waco.
It's amazing how we all just sort of collective shrugged after Oklahoma City and how those same people stormed the Capitol on Jan 6. Their biggest mistake was bombing Oklahoma City because the rest of the country really didn't care. They should have taken some time to drive that Ryder truck to a coast. Also amazing how not much has happened since then. My feeling is militias are pretty easy for the FBI to infiltrate.
Anyway great series on Showtime/Paramount. Highly recommend.

I was in Montana at the time
I was in Montana at the time of the OC bombing and the state had been dealing with an open insurrection by a militia called "the Freemen." Boy, that got shut down quick.
Around the time, I was also in a band that capitalized on the local militia movement called "Sadistic Swami and the Freemen of Funk"

Of course it is a work of
Of course it is a work of fiction, but the movie Arlington Road with Jeff Bridges, Tim Robbins, and Joan Cusack aptly portrays an extremist group operating in Washington D.C.
Waco, Texas has a long history of being a haven for religious extremists. It's the place where the Word and Light record labels originated, kickstarting the Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) movement. No surprise.that David Koresh planted his messianic cult there.
You're right that most folks don't care much about OKC. Always seemed like one of those places you are glad to leave.

Noodler.....LOL....goddammit,
Noodler.....LOL....goddammit, laugh of the day.
When i finally made my mind up to go blow my brains out with Bufo at a "Church" east of Waco in the Fall of '22, I told my grow buddy, "If i hear one person praise, or if I see one fucking picture of David Koresh, I'm outta there!"...lol.
Thanks for the movie heads-up, El Nino. Sounds interesting.
Interestingly enough, Texas bolstered their religion laws in '21 so much so that many new "Churches" are now in operation (Psilocybin, Ayahuasca, but mostly Bufo). Lawyers navigating the paperwork for these Churches to register with the state and the DEA are plentiful as well.

The fact that these idiots
The fact that these idiots make Koresh some sort of hero when he was raping 10 year old girls tells you all you need to know about the "Patriot" movement.
I hitch hiked to OKC in 82 after Red Rocks for a show. Got a ride out of Amarillo by a guy who explained to me an my friend that the whole evolution thing was easy to understand and that white people were created by god and black people evolved from monkeys which he had figured out by doing his own research at the zoo. He dropped us off at strip mall where I had to wait for my brother to pick us up. He was stationed in Enid teaching people how to fly. While we were waiting with our back packs looking road weary some people came up to us to ask us what we were doing. Not wanting to mention the Grateful Dead we said we were hitching across the country to see America. Being white that explanation worked but there was a long pause. Then the guy said in all seriousness - why the hell did you come to Oklahoma. He had a point.

The first time jazfish
The first time jazfish visited me in "21 here in far NE Oklahoma, his first comment after getting out of his vehicle was, "Damn dude, I've never seen so many Trump flags in my life!" And that's coming from a guy who lives in Louisiana.....lol. Even in the largest continuous native American reservation from the southern Kansas border to the northern Texas border, just a shitload of scared, white rednecks here worried they might have to share just a bit of their precious generational wealth.
This is the first place in my life I've been extremely well aware of my own white privilege.
I feel blessed though to be an unwanted legal weed producing virus who's helping to turn the younger generation here from Red to Blue, or even Purple, and take some of their lunch money in the process. Long-lasting, meaningful change happens from the inside ;)

I remember being on the road
I remember being on the road near Kingman, AZ with my brother and seeing a shitload of law enforcement ... they were likely after Nichols or some evidence. Unfortunately, I can't remember the exact day, so not sure if we were headed to see the GD the following month, or were simply going to Vegas for the hell of it.

Vegas was a lot of fun when the mob owned it. Now you couldn't pay me to go there. Thanks Steve Wynn.
