republicans = southern democrats

I just had this thought, and it may be hyperbole, but would it be safe to say republicans during Obama's administration behaved similar to southern democrats on the election of Lincoln? Sure, Southern Democrats caused the dissolution of the union, but republicans on the election of Obama practically made government non functional. Their level of obstruction during his administration was basically like taking your ball and going home in the same spirit as succession. I dont know, maybe thats a radical idea brought on by too many tall boys.. haha
