I went to the GD New Year's run twice - '89 & '90 (was only gonna go once but when they announced Branford would be there in '90 I HAD to go), both times we flew out on Christmas Day & back on New Year's day (cheap airfare), both times I started coming down with the flu just as we were getting on the plane on X-Mas day. Everything was prepaid & I had tickets to all shows so I was not gonna miss out. Those were the days when I could "Party Myself Better" and get away with it . . .
Yep, just got back from south Florida and even got roped into visiting an "establishment" restaurant with my dad ... Joe's Stone Crab.
Picture Dr. Smith (Lost in Space) during an intruder alert<<<
You clearly don't have the right picture. I almost always enjoy the "ride" ... and like sitting by the window seat to check things out. This was the first time I used an odometer app to gauge speed and elevation (while there's a signal).
However, I almost had a "Ralph Nader moment" after nearly missing a connection in Dallas due to our plane sitting for close to 20 minutes just outside the gate ... because there they had to locate a crew to direct the plane to the gate ... as if it was a mystery to them that we were due to arrive.
150 passengers x 20 minutes = 3,000 cumulative minutes STOLEN by American Airlines
Definitely not feeling the greatest, but hard to tell if it's anything to worry about at this point ... since it was a very long day traveling & didn't sleep well the night before.
Part of the problem is that I almost always need to drive nearly two hours to get to a commuter airport (Durango in this case), then make another connection ... 4 hour layover didn't help matters.
Have heard the flu this year is really nasty, just can't imagine how anyone would get on a plane in the midst of it, but ...
Happy to hear that you made it safely to Sunny Florida, and did not suffer too many airline indignities.
Because, you know all airlines keep a close eye on VLZ and were just waiting for a chance to change your seat to the Dreaded middle seat, or put you in Cargo hold for Dreads.

On the whole it worked out for me personally, but a lot of it was luck ... middle seat was open on leg from Dallas to Ft. Lauderdale and wound up in exit row with nobody next to me on way back from Dallas to Durango. So, was in a better mood to roll with the punches ... although couldn't help but observe / note how the minor fiasco's that people accept these days as being "normal" part of flying. Even caught myself "hovering" by the gate to be the first in my boarding group ... so as not to be forced to contend with my carry on.
I don't like to tell anyone WHEN I'm traveling and believe the credit card companies and banks are off totally off base to shut down a card without prior notification of travel plans. Total BS if you ask me.
I understand that it sucks to be next to someone who is sick but try to keep in mind that not everyone is traveling by choice. I travel just about every week for work and have had to suck it up and go work a few times.
I tend to ingest a whole bunch of Vitamin C before, during and after aeroplane flights. Say a gram or two of Calcium Ascorbate every twelve hours. Ester-C is one brand-name, but there are lots of others, maybe throw in some Zinc and a taste of Echinachea.
Not only does it keep me from germ attack in the tin-can with wings, but also I've never gotten Scurvy.
Back in the '90s I would usually get a cold after cross-country flights. Since gobbling the 1000-2000 mg dose of bioavailable C the planes haven't given me the sniffles even once.
I fly every 3 months or so, I think I'll put a good (N95) mask in my backpack right now.
On a flight last year I was in a middle seat next to a hacking, spitting, snotty guy who described himself to me as "Probably the sickest guy on the plane." I asked if the flight attendant could find me another seat given the guy's condition and she did! I really appreciated it.

I suppose it's possible, but how do you explain the MASSIVE de-regulation that's currently occurring across the board in our country? Are you suggesting that private enterprise is behind some sort of firewall that is unable to influence regulation, or the lack thereof?
