Throwing up the Bat Signal for plf. Rob I found an 09 tacoma with only 22,000 miles on it, one owner clean car fax. Interior like new, paint is 9 years old, body is great. Timing Belt and hoses look original, will probably change out if I buy it. How much is too much for me to throw down for it?

I've an older (1996) Tacoma
I've an older (1996) Tacoma with 2.7 liter 3RZFE 4-cylinder engine. Definitely timing chain, not belt. That year the 4-cyls. were either 2.4 liter (2WD basic model) or 2.7 liter (4WD and Prerunner).
A quick search for '2009 Tacoma 4 -cylinder' shows a 2.7 and a 2.4 option, but It's a different nomenclature:
"...The 2.7 (2TR-FE) Tacoma engine has a timing chain..."
On mine it's a "non-interference" timing chain meaning should it break, it won't mash all your valves up. With 22,000 miles there's no TC worries. On mine the interval was something like 80,000 or 100,000 miles. What does happen though, is the plastic 'Timing Chain Guides' wear out over time and that TC rattles around in there where it shouldn't be, it's hard steel and the head is aluminum (soft).
Mine took over 200,000 miles for that to happen. I need a new cylinder head.
Here's a thread about your 2009 (Second Generation) Tacoma engine:

I will replace my Tacoma with another when the time comes. Mine has been a very dependable vehicle over the years. In May, I will have been driving it almost daily for 20 years. I want to make one of those old school Toyota commercials and send it to them. 215k miles and counting.

The 1st gen Tacomas are hard
The 1st gen Tacomas are hard to find, either running or parts trucks in the scrapyard. The frame-rust recall scooped up anything that would roll into the dealership.
Met a fellow the other day with a late 1st-gen which he rolled (still drives). If I could get that for scrap value, it's got some parts I can use. He's planning on a newer rig soon.
My '96 is better on Snow / Ice / Mud than any stock GMC 4x4 I've driven.
That said, the 2nd Gen Tacomas are more refined appliances, slightly wider and longer.

Not sure what the fascination
Not sure what the fascination of keeping a vehicle forever is. Yeah, you can save some bucks, but you're driving an out-dated car or truck with all those annoying little quirks and noises that can't be fixed or even located. When my odometer gets to 100K I start looking for a brand new ride. Let someone else deal with all those niggling issues that all older vehicles are subject to.

Cabinet maker had it and only
Cabinet maker had it and only used it to make small material pick ups for the shop. He had larger vehicles to deliver cabinets. About 2000 miles per year.
I had a 4 runner for 12 years and over 265,000 miles before “I” fucked it up by running it as it ran out of water, I didn’t fully put on water cap after adding water. Only real repair I had up until then other than maintenance items was I had to replace AC Compressor. So ten years old does not scare me. I love Toyota’s, Family member that worked for Ford curse me, but I had two fords bite it before 100,000 miles, never again

Uh, surfdead, because for most people having to make a car payment is difficult and the longer you can go without after you paid off your car the better.
Paint job 9 years old, do they means its the original paint job or they painted it after that accident they got into around 20 K miles?

Im a TACO fan, basically you
Im a TACO fan, basically you are looking at same 2.7 they have built for years. Unless east coast rust disease it will last 4eva. I would tell them you are interested but too much. and wait. 13 is about right. 14 if they throw some bonus. Make sure they dont know if you plan to buy outright or finance before you get quote.
I hate payments and thats why many buy these vehicles IMO- longevity. Good luck. Nice ride.
