4 runner

Forums:

Throwing up the Bat Signal for plf. Rob I found an 09 tacoma with only 22,000 miles on it, one owner clean car fax. Interior like new, paint is 9 years old, body is great. Timing Belt and hoses look original, will probably change out if I buy it. How much is too much for me to throw down for it?

22K Miles ? Is Nothing Barely Used Motor . WoW it has potential Paint Is Easy to do - all fluids New and Tune Up New BFG TKO All Terrains  hmmmmmmmm

make sure it's 22k and not 122k

is it a double cab V-6 ?

Access cab, 4 cylander. One owner, basic shitty rims, and probably the most basic package available, and yes only 22,000. They want the high end of KBB ($ 17,000) but I know I would dump more money in new hoses timing belt once I bought it. Trying to land it for $13,000 - $ 14, 000 plus an old mazda 6 with 148,000 miles that my kids grew up using.

I would go no more than $ 9000 wit trade in.  Four banger.

2009 4 cylinder tacoma most likely has a timing chain. (I think).

How long has it been sitting?

A new 2017 stripped down tacoma is around 25K. Even though it has low miles it is still a 10 year old vehicle. I'd bring the mazda 6 in to a dealer and see what you can work out for a new vehicle.

I've an older (1996) Tacoma with 2.7 liter 3RZFE 4-cylinder engine.  Definitely timing chain,  not belt.  That year the 4-cyls. were either 2.4 liter (2WD basic model) or 2.7 liter (4WD and Prerunner).

A quick search for '2009 Tacoma 4 -cylinder'  shows a 2.7 and a 2.4 option,  but It's a different nomenclature:
"...The 2.7 (2TR-FE) Tacoma engine has a timing chain..."

On mine it's a "non-interference" timing chain meaning should it break,  it won't mash all your valves up.  With 22,000 miles there's no TC worries.  On mine the interval was something like 80,000 or 100,000 miles.  What does happen though,  is the plastic 'Timing Chain Guides' wear out over time  and that TC rattles around in there where it shouldn't be,  it's hard steel and the head is aluminum (soft).

Mine took over 200,000 miles for that to happen.  I need a new cylinder head.

Here's a thread about your 2009 (Second Generation) Tacoma engine:

https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2nd-gen-2-7-engines.206336/

I will replace my Tacoma with another when the time comes. Mine has been a very dependable vehicle over the years. In May, I will have been driving it almost daily for 20 years. I want to make one of those old school Toyota commercials and send it to them. 215k miles and counting.

um they really hold their value.

i'd buy one but they all have 200k and are still $15k...

The 1st gen Tacomas are hard to find,  either running or parts trucks in the scrapyard.  The frame-rust recall scooped up anything that would roll into the dealership.

Met a fellow the other day with a late 1st-gen which he rolled (still drives).  If I could get that for scrap value,  it's got some parts I can use.  He's planning on a newer rig soon.

My '96 is better on Snow / Ice / Mud than any stock GMC 4x4 I've driven.

That said,  the 2nd Gen Tacomas are more refined appliances,  slightly wider and longer.

Not sure what the fascination of keeping a vehicle forever is. Yeah, you can save some bucks, but you're driving an out-dated car or truck with all those annoying little quirks and noises that can't be fixed or even located. When my odometer gets to 100K I start looking for a brand new ride. Let someone else deal with all those niggling issues that all older vehicles are subject to.

Cabinet maker had it and only used it to make small material pick ups for the shop. He had larger vehicles to deliver cabinets. About 2000 miles per year.

I had a 4 runner for 12 years and over 265,000 miles before “I” fucked it up by running it as it ran out of water, I didn’t fully put on water cap after adding water. Only real repair I had up until then other than maintenance items was I had to replace AC Compressor. So ten years old does not scare me. I love Toyota’s, Family member that worked for Ford curse me, but I had two fords bite it before 100,000 miles, never again

Uh, surfdead, because for most people having to make a car payment is difficult and the longer you can go without after you paid off your car the better.

Paint job 9 years old, do they means its the original paint job or they painted it after that accident they got into around 20 K miles?

you don't need a timing belt until 100 K miles - jeeziz

Fabes i wish i could check it out ! - If you want it Negotiate Negotiate Negotiate 22k Odom is Nothing ! if you get it i hope you trick it out !

surfdead i have 2   4 runners a 1984 and a 1994 paid For ! I Love Them ! and tinkering and fixing stuff is a Fun Hobby ! I Love 4 Runners ! a New TRD Pro Is Way out of my League $$$$$$$$$

Alias paint job is original, I spotted a couple small chips, and the color is not brite white like original but it is nothing noticable. Car fax is clean. Took it down the highway doing 60 and hit the brakes hard to see if it pulled to the left or right, stopped like a champ. left the dealer and they played the phone call game by calling me to see if I would come back and that they were going to lower the price, I told them to text me the number, and then they said manager wouldn' t drop it. I will play my own game and let them call me next, if its not to be then it is not to be. I don't need a new truck, I just miss having a truck to pick up mulch or wood, for home projects and to pull my small boat. A truck is for work, camping pulling boats, imo, not really into getting into a $ 400 + payment when I know I will bang it around a bit

Im a TACO fan, basically you are looking at same 2.7 they have built for years. Unless east coast rust disease it will last 4eva. I would tell them you are interested but too much. and wait.  13 is about right. 14 if they throw some bonus. Make sure they dont know if you plan to buy outright or finance before you get quote.

I hate payments and thats why many buy these vehicles IMO- longevity.  Good luck. Nice ride.
