So, whenever I am home during the week due to vacation or sick days, I am amazed by the amount of people out and about.
Take my block for example. Nobody fucking works. The only people that work in my neighborhood is myself, the bmw mechanic and the one mexi carpenter dude, and he's fairly old.
Everywhere I am there are people with free time. Dude across the street. Has not been seen leaving his apt. for 5 years. However he is fucking around with 2 motorcycles constantly, every fucking day. He's roughly my age, not sure how he can afford his crappy $2k/mo apt? Mind boggling.
The water is filled on a Tuesday at 10am. Is everyone a fucking waiter??!! I'm not sure how people can swing it. I mean my job is 1/2 way decent and is still barely enough to cover the basics.
Yoga moms getting lates and walking their dogs. Eating $18 salads...
doesn't anyone fucking work!!????
ps. i am home sick today.

I've had the last six weeks off and I've never seen so many people walking around midweek. Went to the gym at 10a today, no parking. Supermarket at 11:30, no parking. Same here. Lots of people driving around in $50k+ vehicles but nobody seems to work. I know a lot of it in this area is a result of family farm real estate getting sold by this generation at high $$$. Friend of mine married into a family situation like that but they still haven't sold almost 200 acres that's having sub divisions built all around it.
Lots of drug dealers here too. Not far from Harlan KY that's one of the ground zero areas for opioid abuse

Increasing automation could mean the death of capitalism.
Fewer and fewer people will be needed to provide the goods and services that we use. However, we can't just kill off those redundant workers because we need them on the purchasing side. Another way will have to be found to get those folks enough money to buy all that crap without having to hire them for pay.

I have gone through six
I have gone through six painters already this season. I pay my guys well. Some of them more than I ever got paid working for a contractor and I just had to let the sixth guy go. Showed up late like 6 times and the. Just decided he was going to not show up yesterday. The one day it rained and I didn’t have any interior work for us, he send me this long sob story about how he needs to “bring money into the house”, then he doesn’t fucking show up. On top of that he just didn’t show up or call yesterday to pick up the money I owe him. I don’t get it.. Like a wiseman once told me , you can’t force people to work. Just annoying if you have people working for you. Everybody wants to get paid more but are only willing to do the bare minimum, at least that’s how it is in my profession, it seems. Off to find another painter who lies about their experience on Craigslist. I’m willing to pay anyone who shows up on time and works the days I need them at this point.

Civilian labor force is less than half of US population:

For easy math, assume workforce is half of population.
If 64% of 50% is working, that means 32% of the people are working.

Have considered this topic
Have considered this topic from a slightly different point of view ... why does "rush hour" in major metro areas start at about 3pm?
Is this due to some people being able to take off from work early (from "regular" 9-5 jobs) by a couple hours?
Or, perhaps those who aren't working are all progressively jockeying to get to and fro before "everyone" (who's working 9-5) gets off work?

I offered 20 to start and his cousin gave him a place to rent .His cousin has now left the mj industry which is lowering wages as farms have to pay workman's comp and payroll taxes and has come to work for me .Local kids in humboldt think 18 dollars an hr is to low to start. They choose to sit on the couch as weed keeps going down .I wonder what they will do?Some greenrushers have poked around looking for jobs to hang on but not the locals .The rest of the state is raging and Humboldt is like a ghost town compared to the last 5 years .I'm very careful about taking on too much work I have been burned by employees not showing up and causing work to back up .
