Nobody F@ck#'n Works Anymore....

Forums:

So, whenever I am home during the week due to vacation or sick days, I am amazed by the amount of people out and about.

Take my block for example. Nobody fucking works. The only people that work in my neighborhood is myself, the bmw mechanic and the one mexi carpenter dude, and he's fairly old.

Everywhere I am there are people with free time. Dude across the street. Has not been seen leaving his apt. for 5 years. However he is fucking around with 2 motorcycles constantly, every fucking day. He's roughly my age, not sure how he can afford his crappy $2k/mo apt? Mind boggling.

The water is filled on a Tuesday at 10am. Is everyone a fucking waiter??!! I'm not sure how people can swing it. I mean my job is 1/2 way decent and is still barely enough to cover the basics.

Yoga moms getting lates and walking their dogs. Eating $18 salads...

doesn't anyone fucking work!!????

ps. i am home sick today.

doesn't your town hate illegals as well?

so glad we are out of that general area, no offense dude.

You just described every nice part of CA. Count yourself lucky to live there. Only a couple of you do it with day jobs. Rich got way richer since you went off tour.

I guessed this was a Turtle thread.

Maybe ask motorcycle guy if you can be one of his meth runners?

(posting from my work computer, though not really working)

my town?

i don't know. there are old school old republicans sure...but has always been a beach town with laid back attitudes.

my neighborhood is 50/50%  white/mexican

fuck, illegals work their asses off. its the tweaker motorcycle white fucking trash dude that bugs me.

the dude next to him, "busy bob"...is also a white dude...he's some sort of caretaker for an apt. that is empty...he is ALWAYS doing shit around the neighborhood. he works....or does shit all the time, but a normal job. no.

one guy i met in  the water was a retired firefighter. that i get...

was everyone given a trust fund?

is everyone on disability?

>Rich got way richer since you went off tour. <

i' ve noticed.

hall, at least you get up 5 days a week and drag your ass into a place of work to type on the internet.

i'm pretty sure SJC was one of the first OC/SDC cities that wanted out of the CA sanctuary status, maybe I'm mistaken.

i've worked with a 'Country Bob' from S. Illinois before.

its aliso veijo or some other dumb made-up developer town.

You're the only one on vacation this week?

If you're jealous then join them.  Figure out the scam and run with it.

Lots of people work at night.

Maybe some are part time door people.

unemployment is at an all time low

i'm home sick jonas.

i get that i am lucky enough to live somewhere nice enough that people do come here for vacations....

yes. hoover...but rents and home prices are such that most traditional night jobs cannot support that type of employment.

and i don't know its jealousy as much as bewilderment.

neighbor next to me is a nice retired couple. they are great.

other kids next to us suck balls, horribe metal drummer. house is $3k/mo for a small dump. their parents own a successful mex place in town. he has a nice $50k truck...for being a part time bartender.

i have probably 10 years before i can hope to retire and joinn their jack-offery. but i have worked since 15 and have been at the same employer since 1995...

Dealing drugs is considered a job.

California doesn't have a particularly unemployment rate. https://www.statista.com/statistics/200017/state-unemployment-rate-in-th...

You probably just live in an area of such high population density it seems like no one is working when the normal amount of people are off work.

maybe peak...

i suppose tatters. we have a meth/heroine epidemic here. there are tons of rehab. homes where people get sent from all over the country to. a recent npr segment "rehab Riviera" highlighted this issue. they eventually get dumped and wind up on the streets. hey, who wouldn't want to leave? you get shipped from some dump in alabama and get sent out. weather's good...

>You probably just live in an area of such high population density it seems like no one is working when the normal amount of people are off work.<

that is a good point ender, but doesn't explain my immediate block....

i can point to some of my friends also as exceptions...they don't really have a box to shit in however lots of time....

former web guy : uber driver

former art teacher: grower

pool guy: works about 2-3 days a week.

>> Shipped from some dump in alabama

I resemble that remark...

I remember seeing an infographic that showed the most common car for each state. California was a 3 series BMW. You guys must all be loaded if the median is a beemer.

to work or to wook, that is the dilemma.

I usually work out of town on a 9 on 5 off schedule so whenever I'm home it looks like I don't work.

Turtle, you are 100% correct.  Apparently no one works where I live either.  And it's been a trend for many years now.

I've also been working since 15 and just got the corporate layoff after nine years with my employer (younger, cheaper guy).  I've had the last six weeks off and I've never seen so many people walking around midweek.  Went to the gym at 10a today, no parking.  Supermarket at 11:30, no parking.  Everyone's out eating $20 salads and drinking Sauvignon Blanc. I get that it's a Friday but WTF?

see, i'm not crazy.

>>pool guy: works about 2-3 days a week

Comports with a certain LaViva’er.

Same here. Lots of people driving around in $50k+ vehicles but nobody seems to work. I know a lot of it in this area is a result of family farm real estate getting sold by this generation at high $$$. Friend of mine married into a family situation like that but they still haven't sold almost 200 acres that's having sub divisions built all around it.

Lots of drug dealers here too. Not far from Harlan KY that's one of the ground zero areas for opioid abuse

Better believe I've been workin all day

Just step in my shoes and take my pay

Most of the people that I manage work from home. I have friends that live on the Big Island and work from home for bay area companies. I have one friend that works six weeks on and six weeks off in Nigeria.

I sadly drive into work every day

I would have a difficult time not getting wasted all day everyday if I worked from home or didn't have a full time job... probably keep working at least 4 days per week well past when I could comfortably retire just for my health.

I work from home as often as possible. It's not that hard. I perform, I get paid. If I don't perform, I don't.

Who has time to work? smiley

I'm retired and I always have something that needs doing.

most people try to avoid working even when they are at work

My area has a high cost of living and an accomplished leisure class. I think in reality many people have non traditional jobs that allow for flex time. I know many people work in tech from home. Real estate related jobs are flexy. Lawyers with home offices. People just have figured out how to not go to the j-o-b, but make it come to them. Smart people..

Technology frees us up to have more leisure time, right?

AI is going to mean none of us will have to work ever again and the 1%-ers will share all their wealth and we'll all live happily ever after.

"It's a beautiful world we live in."

I’m at work right now

Increasing automation could mean the death of capitalism.

Fewer and fewer people will be needed to provide the goods and services that we use. However, we can't just kill off those redundant workers because we need them on the purchasing side. Another way will have to be found to get those folks enough money to buy all that crap without having to hire them for pay.

My dream is a unfathomable surplus of workers in the world creating a forced agrarian renaissance seated in organic practices.   I can dream..

I have gone through six painters already this season. I pay my guys well. Some of them more than I ever got paid working for a contractor and I just had to let the sixth guy go. Showed up late like 6 times and the. Just decided he was going to not show up yesterday. The one day it rained and I didn’t have any interior work for us, he send me this long sob story about how he needs to “bring money into the house”, then he doesn’t fucking show up. On top of that he just didn’t show up or call yesterday to pick up the money I owe him. I don’t get it.. Like a wiseman once told me , you can’t force people to work. Just annoying if you have people working for you. Everybody wants to get paid more but are only willing to do the bare minimum, at least that’s how it is in my profession, it seems. Off to find another painter who lies about their experience on Craigslist. I’m willing to pay anyone who shows up on time and works the days I need them at this point.

low employment rate

low wages

low work force participation

low labor pool

Low is a great album by David Bowie

Mr. Timpane

I know exactly what you are saying. I am on the constant look out for employees.

It used to be experienced with tools now its I just hope they show up on a regular basis sober.

They don't want to "work" they just want to put in time, shove work on others or just plain old lie and say they did it and either it is half done, done like shit or not at all.

I placed an ad on Indeed, I have had 50 responses, 30 have shown up and 1 is worth hiring. Everyone of them I text my address give them a window from 9-12 on Saturdays and I write CALL BEFORE COMING OVER

3 out of 30 called.

Can't even follow 1 basic instruction.

We live in a world full of lazy fuckin morons.

^many folks have an undeserved sense of entitlement.

I work. City livin' be expensive.

So does much country livin' too.

I'm seen around the house and town fairly often. Almost the only time people see me working is when I go to concerts. Of course they don't see the 70+ hours I do in a week outside the concert hall. Being that the concert photo biz is a 24/7/365 game that has no geographic barriers, often I am working when everyone else is sleeping. I'm sure there are a lot of people who own their own businesses that have a similar profile.

so weird steve's chart shows only 64% of people work? is that what i am reading???

>3 out of 30 called.

jesus.

feel for you small employers.

ps. i know paint and am good with small hand tools. decent mechanical aptitude. i also am super anal about punctuality...

Civilian labor force is less than half of US population:

Clipboard02_124.jpg

For easy math, assume workforce is half of population.

If 64% of 50% is working, that means 32% of the people are working.

Have considered this topic from a slightly different point of view ... why does "rush hour" in major metro areas start at about 3pm?

Is this due to some people being able to take off from work early (from "regular" 9-5 jobs) by a couple hours?

Or, perhaps those who aren't working are all progressively jockeying to get to and fro before "everyone" (who's working 9-5) gets off work?

I had to import one guy from Washington state to northern ca. He is a19 year old that wanted to learn to be an electrician .  He worked at home shlepo for 12 dollars an hr . I offered 20 to start and his cousin gave him a place to rent .His cousin has now left the mj industry which is lowering wages as farms have to pay workman's comp  and payroll taxes and has come to work for me .Local kids in humboldt think 18 dollars an hr is to low to start. They choose to sit on the couch as weed keeps going down .I wonder what they will do?Some  greenrushers have poked around looking for jobs to hang on but not the locals .The rest of the state is raging and Humboldt is like a ghost town compared to the last 5 years .I'm very careful about taking on too much work I have been burned by employees not showing up and  causing work to back up .

Turtle, punctuation on I phones is made quite difficult. I try to not zone from phones anymore because it’s just fucking annoying.l, but alas 80% of my zoning is done on the iPhone.

I think I’m just going to offer an apprenticeship. At least I would know the person knows nothing about what they are doing and if they are willing to listen I could teach them a lot about the trade. Long shot, but finding one good worker is also a long shot.

Quit my JOB after the Super Bowl. It's nice to have some $$$$ in the bank. I might take the rest of summer off and go back to work for the winter again like most of last year,,,,
