Grew up on a barrier island on the Atlantic coast of Florida and we had mile after mile of white sand beaches that were open to vehicles. You had to know what you were doing, but if you did, you could get to way secluded party spots far from anything, especially if you had a 4x4.
Here in Oregon, there are a handful of beaches that are open to vehicles and some people just don't know what they are doing:
I have talked with many people for whom driving on the beach is a foreign concept. Can you drive on your beaches?

Shame about that van.
Shame about that van. Hopefully they got it towed out. I can't imagine trying to pull a trailer on the beach without serious 4-wheel drive and proper tires.
They even abandoned their bikes on the roof rack...
I wonder if that qualifies under Maritime salvage laws.

No. They have been trying to get it out for two days. The trailer has since been destroyed by the tide and pounding surf:

That's where I grew up and drove all along the beaches. The rednecks in their bubba trucks would patrol the beaches and charge folks to pull them out of the sand. I have driven up and down those beaches hundreds of times and only got stuck once.
>>>>Florida they are taking it away mile by mile
Last time I was down there visiting my folks, they had set up a fixed course with traffic cones to follow down St. Augustine Beach and traffic was in a one way direction. No more going wherever you want.

That's a shame about the trailer. They probably had a ton of camping gear and food / supplies in that.
If they get the Van out, it's going to take a lot of work to get it in running condition.
Differentials, transmission, engine will all need to be drained and refilled and probably Brake system too.
Electronic / electric systems might be OK but I doubt it.
Probably the insurance company doesn't cover claims with off-off-road driving.

We have Island Beach State
We have Island Beach State Park. Folks can drive on a section of this 10 mile long stretch of beach, but it is only for surfcasters. You must have fishing gear for every individual in your vehicle.

Was thinking of IBSP but didn't know they still allowed some beach driving.
Would never take my 2WD pickup on the sand (it gets stuck in mud & snow).

Driving at Island Beach State
Driving at Island Beach State Park requires a permit and a number of safety items like a tow rope/chain, a jack with a board to support it in the sand, a minimum of a 1/4 tank of gas, flashlight, tire pressure gauge (lowering pressure to the 10 - 15 psi range is key) and a first aid kit as well as the fishing gear noted above. When you get to the entrance to the beach you are checked 24 hour a day and they turn you away if you are missing any of those things. On Long Beach Island you also need a permit but can only drive on the beach from Oct 1st on. That is during the LBI Surf Fishing Tournament and at any given moment you might see a hundred or more vehicles making their way to their favorite fishing holes. You don't need fishing gear to drive the beach but you will certainly feel like the odd man out if you don't.
