So even i saw the accusation as a little last minute desperation to halt Kavanaugh's appointment. BUT now we have a professor willing to self identify and lay out specifics. Will it be enough to topple his nomination?
While I would like to think this would cause at least one or two defections, I fear that the GOP power structure will not let this hold up the confirmation and they will push their guy through before November by hook or crook. It will be ugly.
I think it won't stop his appointment. The only "x factor" I see is the #metoo background which has instantly toppled many powerful creeps lately. I'm happy with just slowing the mess down. we shall see. I just have so little faith in the rational anymore.
>>>will be an awesome public relations maneuver for the Republican cause
Does it even matter. People just vote for Dems or Repubs without even thinking these days. It's like cheering on your favorite sports team. It doesn't matter what happened as long as you win.
apparently the alleged 3rd person in the room was his school chum with the last name Judge...well I guess he wrote a memoir or book about the culture of binge drinking and debauchery in their little prep school. So that's his alibi...
I cant think of junior wo thinking of his caricature on "our cartoon president". lol
And Zang, I agree. Rational thinking about candidates seems to be fading. This might have the effect of people just getting further entrenched in what they *think* is right. (double entendre?)
I hold a little hope because the swamp is getting drained...of drump pals!
the GOP power structure will not let this hold up the confirmation and they will push their guy through before November by hook or crook<<<
Seeing how they've buried their heads in the sand re: the POTUS possibly leaving our nation's jugular exposed to the world, I believe overlooking Kavanaugh's transgressions will be a walk in a park
It'll be interesting to see what happens if he gets shut down, will the GOP still try to push someone else through before midterms?
>>>>will the GOP still try to push someone else through before midterms?
They simply won't have time before November. However, a new Congress will not be seated until January, so they might have time to start from scratch and get someone else in before then. But that will still be pushing it and they would have to decide right away whether to run with the teenage rapist or find someone new.
How come those Trump boys, with all their money, can't get decent dental work done already? Both of their mouths look like they went through a meat grinder.
Well, with Clinton, there was some physical evidence of the lying. In this case, its a he said/she said. She sounds credible enough and I can totally see that guy as a creepy, rapey prep-school douche. But the lady's credible story, by itself, may not be enough to support an impeachment for lying under oath.
So do they bring in the other people from that story to testify? Wasn't there another guy, and possibly 4 other women? Will CSPAN break into the reality TV market? Will the Republicans throw the whole thing out? Will the people demand more tweets? Will fucks be given???
A president being investigated for collusion with the Russian government gets to pick 2/9th of a jury they may decide his fate. Any zoners get to pick there judges when going to court? It's ok I'll wait for the answer.
Rapist POTUS picks rapist SCOTUS.
Republicans ruined the supreme court. Dems will pack the court next time there in control nominating Judge Garland has the 10th justice then as many that are needed to give the dems one more justice than the GOP. 7-6 or 6-5 something like that.
No TENURE for SCOTUS it's time for term limits for Judges.
> But the lady's credible story, by itself, may not be enough to support an impeachment for lying under oath.
well, she did pass a lie detector test. they could make him take the test..pretty sure he's sweating right now since he jumped the gun and already denied it. really should have stuck with "I can't recall" - I mean that's actually believable, given that he probably was a shitfaced drunk teenager. just seems like the lamest way to derail the nominee, but I'll take it that's all that sticks. he's obviously got tons of skeletons in the closet and this one is small potatoes.
>>>>>Dems will pack the court next time there in control nominating Judge Garland has the 10th justice then as many that are needed to give the dems one more justice than the GOP. 7-6 or 6-5 something like that.
"On Friday, Judge Kavanaugh ‘categorically and unequivocally’ denied this allegation. This has not changed. Judge Kavanaugh and the White House both stand by that statement."
I suspect that more victims will come forward now. He's a lying SOB, just like Donnie.
2 party system surf. Who's gonna stop it in a majority rule system where the minority is ignored when not in power?
Obama elected GOP takes control of congress and nothing gets done for 6 years. Signing statement president only no legislation. Trump elected even with a GOP congress is mostly a signing statement president no legislation outside of tax cuts. Plenty of time to campaign for midterms while on the job. GOP wouldn't work with Obama not it's payback time with Trump in office after midterms for the Dems.
Court-packing, Democrats’ nuclear option for the Supreme Court, explained
Why an FDR plan from the 1930s is suddenly popular again.
Dr. Ford mentioned the almost rape to her husband in 2002 and 2006. She told her therapist in 2012 so she has a shit-ton of credibility unlike the GOP thugs. Flake & Corker are our best bets.
You know, I probably wouldn't hold much of anything someone did in high school against them 30 years later if they were properly contrite, showed insight into their wrongdoing, and seemed to have learned the appropriate lessons and made the appropriate changes. People really change a lot after that time period. However, I am concerned with the possibility that he might be lying NOW, which is not cool for a Supreme Court Justice. Needs to be investigated.
>The White House hasn’t asked the FBI to investigate the allegation that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted a woman when they were in high school, a request required for the bureau to take further action, according to two people familiar with the matter.
The FBI’s initial background investigation into Kavanaugh was completed before Christine Blasey Ford came forward with the allegation. Kavanaugh, who has denied the allegation as “completely false,” and Ford have both said they’re willing to testify before Congress.
Might be real interesting week for the white house, daily news page 6 says that ronan farrow has copies of the celebrity apprentice tapes where our leader uses bad language.
Kavanaughs buddy mark judge is a scum bag. They should have him testify, the books he wrote make his highschool days sound some what like mine with less drinking and fewer attempted rapes and more smoking. I spent the last 3 years of my hs days in a catholic school and those boys were clueless when it came to getting laid. They had a deal they called getting grabs. I guess that meant you tried to grab some girls boobs in mostly inappropriate places.

Yeah, figured it'd be a stretch, but wouldn't put midnight confirmation past them.
In 2009, massage therapist Molly Hagerty went to the Portland, Ore., Police and gave a lengthy statement claiming that about three years earlier, former vice president Al Gore “pinned her to a bed in his hotel suite, forcibly French kissed her, and groped her breasts.” She described herself as “petrified during the encounter and how she had to bolt the room to avoid being raped.” She also described Gore as having a violent temper. She had gone to Portland Police three years earlier, but abruptly stopped cooperating with the investigation. Then, without a clear explanation, she returned and gave a full account to investigators.
The Portland Police opened an investigation and interviewed Gore. In June of 2010, news of the investigation broke, and Gore adamantly denied the accusation. Steve Kornacki, then of Salon and currently with MSNBC, told his readers that three reasons to be skeptical jump out: The Portland Police had not initially chosen to follow up on her allegation, a local newspaper had heard her story and chosen to not publish any articles about it, and that several celebrities are falsely accused of sex crimes before.
Alexandra Petri of the Washington Post pointed to the masseuse’s comment that Gore behaved like a “crazed sex poodle” and chuckled, “There are hundreds of jokes to be made here. I won’t make any of them, because I don’t want the world to be destroyed by global warming.” Marc Ambinder, then with The Atlantic, assessed her account with great skepticism:
The narrative is pulpy and riveting and tragicomic. You half expect there to be a reference to a “torn bodice” at some point. Either the masseuse or Mr. Gore has an extremely vivid imagination, and in our system of justice, we must presume that since the police did not file charges, Gore is innocent.
(You notice that there is little of this skepticism and reasoning around for the current accusations against Judge Brett Kavanaugh.)
The Portland District Attorney’s office chose not to press charges against Gore, contending that Hagerty failed a polygraph test, sold her story to the National Enquirer, and had not agreed to turn over certain medical records. “This case is not appropriate for criminal prosecution. The matter is closed and the investigative materials will be returned to PPB [the Portland Police Bureau].” The former Vice President was cleared of the charges, or at least as much as a man can be.
The only two people who know precisely what happened in that room are Al Gore and the masseuse, but there is no fair way to characterize Gore as a sexual predator or a creep. Sexual predators don’t look a certain way, publicly behave a certain way, or vote a certain way.
Nor do they come from particular backgrounds. In the coming days, you’re likely to hear a lot of sneering about wealthy and privileged white guys who attended prep schools and the Ivy Leagues, a lot of fuming about how anyone with a background like Brett Kavanaugh’s — mother who is a judge, father who is a head of a perfume-maker’s trade association, Georgetown Prep, Yale University — must be arrogant, entitled, smug, and elitist. Of course, that background is hard to distinguish from Al Gore’s — father who is a senator, mother who is a lawyer, living in the Fairfax Hotel on Embassy Row in Washington, attending Saint Albans prep school and going on to Harvard University.
Apparently, we only hate the preppies when they’re in the other party.
They need to put Mark Judge on the stand, see if he is willing to lie under oath.
I read a conservative tweet that said what parent would allow unsupervised drinking in their home in 1983. What planet do they live on?
In 1977 a new kid started at my school. His parents had a home in the toniest part of town. His room had its own bathroom, we had keg parties in his room.
A party at another kids house in this same neighborhood ended with the police pounding on the door. We all ran out the back door following the kid who lived there. He had a cast on his arm and ran into a stop sign.
He spun around in a circle and landed on his ass. We all laughed our asses off. Of course the popo got him.
>>>The Portland District Attorney’s office chose not to press charges against Gore, contending that Hagerty failed a polygraph test, sold her story to the National Enquirer, and had not agreed to turn over certain medical records.
The current accuser has passed a polygraph, hasn’t sold her story to anyone, and turned over her therapist notes. Are you saying you believe her Thom?
>They need to put Mark Judge on the stand, see if he is willing to lie under oath.
Yes, but Grassley already said that he will not allow it him to testify. And Trump’s Justice Department will not allow the FBI to investigate the allegations. I
Only chance is to stall these hearings till after the midterms and flip the enough seats.
I think unsupervised drinking in high school was probably more prevalent in 1983 than it is today. Whose parents are out of town?????????
Thom, no one is suggesting that Kavanaugh be charge with a crime. If and when Gore runs for office again or is nominated to a judgeship I assume those allegations would be an issue.
>>Senate Judiciary Committee chair Chuck Grassley has been forced to postpone a vote scheduled for Thursday on Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination because Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake finally made himself useful by demanding the committee examine the allegations by Christine Blasey Ford that Kavanaugh attacked her when they were in high school. Grassley has scheduled a hearing for Monday in response, reportedly with just two witnesses: Kavanaugh and Ford. Except that he didn't bother to contact Ford before he scheduled it.
If you think this was just some mistake by Grassley, or a mere oversight, think again. He's setting a narrative, which he made abundantly clear Tuesday morning in an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt. That Ford hasn't yet been able to commit to that date, Grassley says, "kind of raises the question, do they want to come to the public hearing or not."
Fellow Republican and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham piped up to prove yet again with proof that he buried anything resembling his principles with his good friend John McCain. "She can come if she likes, but if she doesn't want to, she doesn't have to," Graham said on Fox News, proving that they're only asking her to testify because they have to—not because they care about what happened to her.
Republicans don't want a real public hearing, and Grassley and Trump have proved it by not directing an actual investigation into the matter by the FBI. As California Sen. Dianne Feinstein says, "it's impossible to take this process seriously." She points out that Grassley has invited just two witnesses, compared to the 22 witnesses at the Anita Hill hearing in 1991, which took three days. "What about other witnesses like Kavanaugh's friend Mark Judge," the alleged accomplice in that attack. "What about individuals who were previously told about this incident? What about experts who can speak to the effects of this kind of trauma on a victim?"
None of that matters to Republicans. Grassley is merely going through the motions, and doing so in as politicized a manner as he possibly can. If getting to the truth was at issue at all here, Kavanaugh's nomination would already be history because of his serial perjuries.
The crazy thing is that this attempted rape allegation probably isn't nearly as bad as what Trump, Kavanaugh, and their allies seem to be trying to hide in unprecedented fashion during this whole process.
NYTimes says Ms.Blasey-Ford has not confirmed she will be there Monday. That's a bit worrisome. Maybe she is following advice of counsel. I hope she shows.
right, anyone who thinks all of this smoke and mirror diversion isnt started by Trump himself isnt looking close enough. He has the media focused exactly where he wants them. pure genius, really
>>>>He has the media focused exactly where he wants them. pure genius, really
For what its worth, that is exactly what Michael Moore has been saying recently. He even suspects that it was Trump himself or someone working with him that penned the anonymous NYT op ed.
Has apparently perjured himself before Congress numerous times dating back to 02/04/06? That alone should be grounds for disbarment? Jail? Certainly the removal of the candidate to the highest office in the land.
The "right's" goal is to take of the courts nation wide with far right idelogues.
Polygraphs aren't really accurate, and are not admissible in court for that reason (not that this is court, but an illustration of them being unreliable). For instance, a psychopath like Trump would probably pass. There are even people who do seminars in how to fool them.
I don't blame Ford for not wanting to testify, but I also can see that when someone comes in with an accusation 30 years later there needs to be some serious examination. I mean, it is possible that they were ALL drunk and perceive the event differently. I know that I look back on some things when I was young and now I can say "Wow, that shit was fucked up" when at the time it was just part of how it was. Maybe the other person doesn't remember it at all. However, I sense a lack of candor by Kavanaugh on a number of issues, so his denial doesn't hold a lot of weight with me.
I'm really annoyed with Feinstein. By holding this until the last second she set this poor woman up to have to make a snap decision about testifying while leaving the door wide open for the GOP to complain this is last minute shenanigans and try to push this through. I mean, there was NO WAY they were going to toss the nomination without a full vetting of the allegations and her identity would eventually be revealed. I feel like she has outted this poor woman for nothing. And if Ford doesn't show on Monday, then the GOP has the perfect excuse to go forward. I don't blame her if she doesn't but I think it's better for everyone if she does. Ugh, what a mess.
^That's why 17 year-olds are not considered adults. Well, unless they want to join the military to kill people and blow up stuff.
Regarding the timing of the allegations: didn't the alleged victim want to hold off so she wouldn't have to come forward if K nomination wasn't successful?
Makes total sense that she didn’t want to come forward unless absolutely necessary. Have you seen the backlash? She’s had to flee her home with her family because of Death threats. Another classmate also came forward to say she was a witness and immediately began getting harassed and receiving death threats.
What it sounds like is that if the existence of the letter had not been leaked to the press, that Feinstein would have kept this a secret and not told anyone there was a possible attempted rapist on the Supreme Court. But then when it got leaked she rushed to reveal it without running it through Ford. She says she can't remember whether she even spoke to Ford after she got the letter, which raises a whole other set of issues about our 85 year old Senator who is running for another term. She didn't even ask any oblique questions at the hearings which would have allowed dem investigators to get a handle on whether either K or F were straight up fabricating, or box K into giving answers that can be checked out later.
The reality is that if Ford sends a letter and it dies in a Senator's office, she might as well not have bothered. Feinstein should have met with her and explained that and tried to come up with some solution, whether it was asking at the hearing, coming out with it earlier, or never revealing it at all if that's what she wanted. They could have agreed that it would be released at some reasonable time if the nomination was still viable. They could have tried to arrange for private bipartisan questioning--her identity would still have come out but she might have avoided the public spectacle. By waiting until the last minute it just seems to have been handled the worst way possible--sucks for Ford, who is getting death threats and understandably does not wish to testify, and gives the GOP an easy way out of this. And worst of all, if she doesn't show this guy may end up in the Supreme Court with a giant asterisk, which completely erodes the integrity of this once-august body. I can only hope that this concern causes the GOP to pause on this but in this climate I doubt it. Let's just say that even if you give Feinstein a pass for the difficult situation, the way it was handled led to a terrible situation for everyone now.
Well, integrity went put the window when Clarence Thomas was seated on the Court even though there were credible allegations of sexual harassment. And the fact that the GOP never even gave Merrick Garland a hearing
Funny how the GOP conversation is changing now and instead of saying they believe Kavanaugh they’re crying about that it’s not fair to hold someone accountable for teenager behavior. Even though Kavanaugh continues to deny it ever happened.
>>>>Makes total sense that she didn’t want to come forward unless absolutely necessary
It was absolutely necessary a couple of weeks ago. Or she could have said "No, I never want it revealed", which I understand, but then why send the letter at all. Maybe she had faith that Feinstein could do something with it behind the scenes that would have resolved this while preserving anonymity, but Diane wasn't able to do that.
I'm so over Feinstein. Not just for this, her time is done, take your pearls and give someone else a chance.
One thing is for sure, during the trump presidency people now believe they know a profound amount about he political system, regardless of whether they do or not
Thomas was accused of making a lame joke about pubic hair, not attempted rape. Even by today's standards that's a pretty big difference, even given K's youth at the time (which I agree could be a mitigating factor).
>>> it’s not fair to hold someone accountable for teenager behavior. Even though Kavanaugh continues to deny it ever happened.
I can see that depending on the circumstances and if the person has insight and made changes, but that raises the concern about whether he is lying about it now.
The crazy thing is that this attempted rape allegation probably isn't nearly as bad as what Trump, Kavanaugh, and their allies seem to be trying to hide in unprecedented fashion during this whole process<<<
The mere fact that the Senate is even considering a nomination from Trump at this point is by far and way the "worst" part of any of this, IMO.
I don't even know where to begin, but the most pressing concern is national security and the nation being on one giant "ghost ride" - if not in the pocket of Putin. The GOP in Congress have essentially allowed Trump to carry on in office unchecked; with him serving as an "institutional placeholder" to further their agendas and retain power. It will only be a matter of time before a significant violent conflict somewhere on this planet will be attributed to the current situation & IMO the GOP who've abdicated their oversight duty ought to receive the brunt of the blame if they've abandoned the proper means to achieve an end such as SCOTUS.
History (if we make it) will illuminate the severity of the Senate's dereliction of duty; and the extent to which they've exposed our nation to harm.
How long can the GOP in the Senate continue to pretend "all is well" in the Oval Office and not receive severe political backlash? This is the scary part ... since they're kind of backing themselves into a corner to be forced to keep doubling down along with Trump.
IMO: Anyone who has an average sense of reason should conclude that the person who calls for an investigation has nothing to hide, while the person who is against such an investigation is afraid of what may be revealed.
Heard that Kavanaugh supporters were doing back round investigations into Dr. Blasey Ford before her allegations were made public. Things that make you go Hmmmm.
- Kavi if put on the court could be blackmailed by idiot friend Mark Judge or people who knew.
- I wonder what (D) Feinstein got to sit on this Dr. Ford letter? I bet it's something on Defense knowing Republicans and her.
Kauvanaugh has a calendar from that time period and it's clearly is missing any notation of him getting drunk and wavying his willy in her face. See, say the GOP, it never happened
Kavanaugh and his supporters are pure evil. The hubris of these racist rapist is staggering. Did you really think no one was going to find out about your frat days in "tit & clit"? These maroons truly believe they are above the laws of human decency.
Avenatti’s response to the email was also included in the photo, to which he told Davis that he is “aware of significant evidence of multiple house parties in the Washington, D.C. area during the early 1980s, during which Brett Kavanaugh, Mark Judge and others would participate in the targeting of women with alcohol/drugs to allow a ‘train’ of men to subsequently gang rape them.”
>>>>Trump could've selected a similar candidate who would have been appointed much more easily.
That's why I am starting to think that they still might pull Kavanaugh. Sure they can plow his nomination through (assuming Collins, Murkowski, or some other GOP senators don't break rank), but the optics will be stomach turning and it will come with a large political price.
I know they want to get him on the bench before the start of the Supreme Court session next week. However, the only thing they have to loose by pulling Kavanaugh and replacing him with the next conservative jurist on the list would be 4-4 decisions on whatever cases go before the court before the lame duck Congress votes on the replacement nomination, which they have still have time to do before the new congress takes their seats in January .
what would that be? video or photographic evidence?
DNA?
why would a successful DR. who did not want to come out publicly do so? while risking her career and frankly her whole family's saftey? what does she have to gain?
anything besides innuendo, accusations & hysteria? is the dr the second woman with accusations? nyt couldn't get corroboration on the claims
The Times interviewed dozens to corroborate 2nd allegation against Kavanaugh and could find no one with firsthand knowledge. Ramirez told ex-classmates she couldn’t be certain Kavanaugh was the one who exposed himself. @SherylNYT @npfandos https://t.co/lGVc4hJzEU
so the one making the accusation isn't even able to confirm it was kavanaugh. he must have done it.
These are serious charges. Kavanaugh needs to testify under oath and be truthful with the FBI background investigation. Its really not that much to ask for a lifetime appointment.
Hell, Ronnie's pick, Ginsburg, stepped down for smoking cannabis. Im sure most feel alcohol and sexual abuse are as bad as puffing the reefer.
The Republicans will still get someone on the bench to screw over the American public they just need to put up the show first, so it at least look legitimate.
he was sailing right thru (except for the histrionics bull) until feinstein pulled this shit. she didn't even have a clue that her chauffer (that just seems wrong on so many levels) was a friggin' chinese spy for cryin' out loud. sorry, if he did it fry him. but just because unverified, uncorroborated & unsubstantiated stories have been tossed out, i ain't buying it. and sleazy avenatti doesn't help.
TAPPER: "We now have 4 individuals who have come forward who were named by Professor Ford...and all 4...have all said they don't remember anything like this ever happened."
GRANTHOLM (I think}: "Right. And that actually corroborates Ford's story..."
Sorry, hillman. I was just trying to be funny (and failed, apparently).
Kavanaugh still is innocent until proven guilty.
If the GOP judicial committee members play their cards right (including having a trustworthy investigation, or at least one which will satisfy all GOP senators) and Kavanaugh comes out clean, they still have the power to ram this nomination through.
It seems only prudent to have the FBI investigate, as Dr. Basey Ford has suggested, before continuing on Kavanaugh's appointment. Having FBI findings would seem to clarify things.
sorry johnny, thought you were being funny but you went all caps & extra large font, it's a highly charged subject, so i wasn't sure.
liquid i don't really care if he becomes a justice or not. if he is successful i don't think roe v wade is going to be overturned, which seems to be where all the angst is centered.
fbi say they are not investigating it. at this point i don't even know if i could even believe them
is this in regards to "there are fine people on both sides"?<<<<
For those who may seek to "compartmentalize" any given current issue / event: the reality of the situation: it's all part of the same thing IMO.
The troubling part for me are the precedents that might be necessary to be inadvertently set in order to both mitigate and remove a clear and present danger from the Office of the POTUS.
I am very much an idealist, but also have sufficient understanding of pragmatism to know that sometimes compromising the former is required.
I don't understand why this is so hard for people to understand. I guess it is because Fox and Friends have an agenda to confuse people on this issue. Kavanaugh is not on trial. He is not going to jail. He won't loose his current job, and life will go on for him. The only thing that will change is that he won't get one the most coveted jobs in the world with life time powers to make his view point the final law of the land for decades to come. There is no innocent until proven guilty when you apply for that job. The standard is that there shouldn't be a hint of scandal, because for that job you get to choose only the very best people. He doesn't come close to passing that standard.
Oh yeah and this is an equally ridiculous thing to say because the accuser has asked for a full investigation and Kavanaugh and his gang of old men have said there is no need for and investigation.
there is no presumption that he didn't do anything wrong. "innocent until proven guilty" to me is just a phrase that best exemplifies his situation and isn't meant to be a legal declaration with potential for incarceration or other punishment. "tried in the court of public opinion" is another. ymmv
" The standard is that there shouldn't be a hint of scandal, because for that job you get to choose only the very best people."
so i guess all the liberal leaning justices didn't have even a hint of scandal & all the conservative justices did. guess rachel maddow has an agenda also.
there is nothing preventing the fbi from re-opening the investigation, even a gang of old men not wanting it to be re-opened
I predict that within 24 hours Kananaugh will withdraw from consideration , citing an unjust ‘witch hunt’ and the obligatory need to spend more time with family.
In still other news, conservatives patriotically defend rapists and rape culture. Don't fry him, just cast him aside and find an actual honorable justice. Maybe that Merrick Garland fellow perhaps?
Yeah that"s right folks, I'm a conservative. In other news, accusations are now proof. Fry him!
In still other news, conservatives patriotically defend rapists and rape culture. Don't fry him, just cast him aside and find an actual honorable justice. Maybe that Merrick Garland fellow perhaps?
In still other news, generalizations are still the bane of critical thinking.
>>>so i guess all the liberal leaning justices didn't have even a hint of scandal & all the conservative justices did.
There are plenty of justices that don't have a hint of scandal on both sides. Kavanaugh is just another example of the scorched earth approach to politics adopted by Republicans. Never retreat, never surrender. Also they are kind of between a rock and a hard place since it is hard to dump Kavanaugh for doing the same thing that the pussy grabber President admitted doing on tape.
>>>guess rachel maddow has an agenda also.
Nope big difference Rachel is biased as are all people. Fox has an agenda which you can easily see with their revolving door employment policy with the Republican party. At least half the people running for President on the Republican side are auditioning for a job with Fox. Then they mix that agenda with WWE entertainment value where everything is boiled down to a simple plot of villains and heroes.
>> participate in the targeting of women with alcohol/drugs to allow a ‘train’ of men to subsequently gang rape them.”
Kavanaugh's defense is he was a virgin for years after the period where the allegations took place. And yet people are saying he had group sex at parties?
Seems like the truth is one of 2 polar opposites and there is no gray area.
There sure is a gray area for "Christians" and other sorts of Republicans who will vote for any conservative candidate no matter what his past includes.
The only thing we can be 100% sure of is that the Republican party will always attack the victims of sexual assault and then wonder why it took them so long to come forward. Unless it was a Democrat who committed the sexual assault.
Hillman -- what makes him such a great candidate for SCOTUS? Since we should just disregard everything that has been brought to the table, what is it that makes him so special?
When was it ever that way...Google central Park 5 and Donald Trump....kavy has always been loose with the truth...that ridiculous Fox news interview proves it...his I never got that drunk nonsense has already been proven bullshit...
Kavanaugh wrote “Renate Alumni” in his year book along with a bunch of other football players at his school. This is in reference to Renate Schroeder (now Renate Schroeder Dolphin), a student at a neighboring girls’ school. So he was the kind of guy who felt the need to either call out his sexual conquests in his year book or the kind of guy who lied about his sexual conquests in his year book. Either way he is a pig who never grew out of it.
Renate Schroeder Dolphin was one of the 64 women who signed a letter addressed to Sens. Chuck Grassley and Dianne Feinstein, vouching for Kavanaugh’s behavior during his high school years.
Weird she would sign a letter saying the following for a "pig":
We are women who have known Brett Kavanaugh for more than 35 years and knew him while he attended high school between 1979 and 1983. For the entire time we have known Brett Kavanaugh, he has behaved honorably and treated women with respect.
I also agree that it's good to wait for evidence to form an opinion.
That's a big part of why I am so disturbed that the Senate leadership has withheld so much evidence from the start of this process and that this same leadership is trying to rush this process so quickly.
Isn't that alarming to you?
I'll add that when information is withheld and/or limited, it's natural to form an opinion with what is available in the moment and asking the question: "What are they trying to hide?"
The word “Renate” appears at least 14 times in Georgetown Preparatory School’s 1983 yearbook, on individuals’ pages and in a group photo of nine football players, including Judge Kavanaugh, who were described as the “Renate Alumni.” It is a reference to Renate Schroeder, then a student at a nearby Catholic girls’ school.
Two of Judge Kavanaugh’s classmates say the mentions of Renate were part of the football players’ unsubstantiated boasting about their conquests.
“They were very disrespectful, at least verbally, with Renate,” said Sean Hagan, a Georgetown Prep student at the time, referring to Judge Kavanaugh and his teammates. “I can’t express how disgusted I am with them, then and now.”
...
This month, Renate Schroeder Dolphin joined 64 other women who, saying they knew Judge Kavanaugh during their high school years, signed a letter to the leaders of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is weighing Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination. The letter stated that “he has behaved honorably and treated women with respect.”
When Ms. Dolphin signed the Sept. 14 letter, she wasn’t aware of the “Renate” yearbook references on the pages of Judge Kavanaugh and his football teammates.
“I learned about these yearbook pages only a few days ago,” Ms. Dolphin said in a statement to The New York Times. “I don’t know what ‘Renate Alumnus’ actually means. I can’t begin to comprehend what goes through the minds of 17-year-old boys who write such things, but the insinuation is horrible, hurtful and simply untrue. I pray their daughters are never treated this way. I will have no further comment.”
>> That's a big part of why I am so disturbed that the Senate leadership has withheld so much evidence from the start of this process and that this same leadership is trying to rush this process so quickly.
Yes, rushing the process is horrible. Waiting for the last second to bring accusations is horrible. Leaking the letter after guaranteeing Ford's anonymity was horrible. Refusing to vote up or down on Merrick Garland was horrible.
>>>> It wasn't preemptively. It was dated Sept 14, 2018
>> Isn't that two days before the allegations were made public? Or is my definition of preemptive wrong?
Nope, a day after:
On September 13, Ford's statement came to light when Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-California) acknowledged the existence of a complaint against Kavanaugh by a woman who requested not to be identified.
Amnesty International USA calls on you to halt the vote on President Trump’s nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court of the United States. Amnesty International takes no position on the appointment of particular individuals to government positions, unless they are reasonably suspected of crimes under international law and could use their appointment to the position in question to either prevent accountability for these crimes or to continue perpetration. At the same time, the organization calls on governments to thoroughly vet candidates in regard to any human rights concerns arising from their prior conduct. Amnesty International believes that the vetting of Brett Kavanaugh’s record on human rights has been insufficient and calls for the vote on his nomination for Supreme Court of the United States to be further postponed unless and until any information relevant to Kavanaugh’s possible involvement in human rights violations—including in relation to the U.S. government’s use of torture and other forms of ill-treatment, such as during the CIA detention program—is declassified and made public. Amnesty International has long called for declassification of any documents or other materials depicting or describing enforced disappearance, torture or other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or other human rights violations, including acts of abduction and rendition, by US or non-US personnel after the attacks in the USA on September 11, 2001. According to his biography, Brett Kavanaugh “served for more than five years in the White House for President George W. Bush. From July 2003 until May 2006, he was Assistant to the President and Staff Secretary to the President. From 2001 to 2003, he was Associate Counsel and then Senior Associate Counsel to the President.” In a letter dated August 16, 2018, Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) asked Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) to make a number of documents related to Brett Kavanaugh’s record public, noting that, “at least two documents that are publicly available on the Bush Library website from Judge Kavanaugh’s time as Staff Secretary suggest that he was involved in issues related to torture and rendition after 9/11.” More information must be made public to determine Kavanaugh’s role in relation to such practices. In addition to concerns about Kavanaugh’s involvement in torture and other ill-treatment by the U.S. government, Amnesty International is deeply concerned about Brett Kavanaugh’s record on a range of other human rights issues, including sexual and reproductive rights, access to abortion, women’s rights, LGBTI Rights, Indigenous Peoples’ rights, environmental rights, gun violence, refugee rights, criminal justice, surveillance and detentions at Guantánamo. As sexual assault also implicates a number of human rights, including the right to be free from gender-based discrimination and violence, we also call for a thorough vetting in regard to any allegations made against Kavanaugh to this effect, including those by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez.
Sincerely, Margaret Huang Executive Director Amnesty International
I've been reading some interesting scenarios today about who Trump might have on deck next, assuming the now very likely possibility that Kavanaugh doesn't get confirmed.
Holy shit. If you think Prep School Douche is bad, wait until you meet the rest of the gang.
Trump has proudly outsourced the Supreme Court to the Federalist Society. This would be the equivalent of a Democrat saying all Supreme Court picks will be made by the ACLU with help from the Southern Poverty Law Center and Code Pink.
Here are some of the things they stand for:
Many members of the Federalist Society favor overturning Roe v. Wade
The Federalist Society opposes regulation of private property and private businesses
The Federalist Society has argued that courts should not take race into account when making decisions.
The Federalist Society has forcefully argued against regulations on guns.
The Federalist Society had a significant influence on the Citizens United Supreme Court ruling which seriously weakened regulations on campaign finance contributions.
GOP hired a "female assistant" to help grill Dr. Ford. Lordy this stuff is getting weird. Old white men in GOP don't want to look bad interrogating her
WOW! to that Avenatti info. So lets say the FBI does some real investigation and were to find these statements to be credible. Would it meet the criteria for bringing a criminal suit? I don't know Statute of Limitations in the state(s) for attempted rape/rape. I don't want to get ahead of things here but can it be as simple as a bunch of republican pigs ignoring all this and saying "hes cool" lets vote to appoint? The highest court in the land for life. Scary ignorant pigs.
FBI can't investigate and the republicans know it. Judge Kavi's guilty and once questioned by the FBI his lying would become a crime at that point.
I think Judicial Crisis Network likes knowing it could blackmail Kavi and thus control the supreme court and it's pivotal vote. More commercials to come today I'm sure!
I'm going to have a serious problem if it's the "will of the people" that this toxic nominee becomes our next Justice of the Supreme Court.
I was devastated that so many people voted for the pussy grabbing President, but at least I can wrap my head around the idea that many people were voting against Ms. Clinton.
She said she attended “well over ten house parties” from 1981 to 1983. Between 1981 and 1982, she said at these parties she began to notice Judge, Kavanaugh and others would attempt to “‘spike’ the ‘punch’ at house parties I attended with drugs and/or grain alcohol so as to cause girls to lose their inhibitions and their ability to say ‘No.’”
Kavanaugh and Judge, she said, would “‘target’ particular girls … it was usually a girl that was especially vulnerable because she was alone at the party or shy.” She said she has a “firm recollection” of seeing boys ― including Judge and Kavanaugh ― “lined up outside rooms at many of these parties waiting for their ‘turn’ with a girl inside the room.”
If she saw girls at these parties being drugged and raped, why did she keep going to the parties?
I'm not victim blaming her, I just can't fathom why someone would knowingly go to such a party?
Yeah man. would you like to see what she was wearing? I saw people shooting dope, etc. at concerts. I wanted none of it. But I wanted to go with a reasonable expectation of not having someone spike my drink with um, i dunno, Quaaludes.
>>>If she saw girls at these parties being drugged and raped, why did she keep going to the parties?
Because she was a teenager, it was where the cool kids were hanging out, and getting drugged and raped wasn't the theme of the party. BTW she has a security clearance she is not some flake.
Shooting dope is a victimless crime, not really analogous to assault. Tell me about the time you went to party/concert, saw someone being raped, did nothing about it and went back again?
Ender and Hillman l, were the hundreds of gymnasts molested over decades at Michigan State University lying? Why did they keep going to gymnastics and not say anything?
I don't think that's analogous. Did gymnasts knowingly go to that university with the knowledge that people were being sexually abused there? And then do nothing about it when they saw it?
People went to the university and were molested, saw people molested and did nothing about it for years. So yes. She didn’t know that was going on until she went to the parties. It’s very analogous. Turns out 15 year old girls rarely report sexual assault and or misconduct.
It has nothing to do with complacency. Do you react each and every time you feel that you or someone else is being wronged? Is there a reason why you didn't react? Did you feel intimidated? Were you thinking of the consequences of your reaction? Did you feel that the person 'deserved it'?
People don't remember that the word "date rape" wasn't even known to most people at that time (I think it was coined about 1986 or 87). That behavior would not have been labeled "rape". It would have been seen as boys being boys and a girl who was either a slut or very stupid because "she knew what she was doing" when she went upstairs with that first guy. I recall stories of this kind of stuff when I was in high school (not a line of men, but of group of guys doing it with some passed out or super drunk girl). No one ever called it rape and the women would not have wanted to talk about it after, hoping it would be forgotten by everyone. The group aspect of it would have made them cads, but not criminals. None of that stopped us from going to parties. I grew out of hanging with those types people fairly quickly, but that culture definitely existed. Especially at Beach Week.
I remember one dude ordered a bunch of Spanish Fly out of High Times and claimed he was getting laid like crazy by spiking drinks. He showed us some powder. We didn't really believe him because he didn't seem suave enough to get laid and no one we knew would have hung out with him anyway. But I suppose that was the point? Anyway, no one ever ratted him out or accused him of rape, because that wasn't considered rape.
>> No one ever called it rape and the women would not have wanted to talk about it after, hoping it would be forgotten by everyone.
Weird. I guess being a teenager in the 80s were different than the 90s? Group fucking a drunk girl would always have been considered rape for my peers in my timeline. It's black and white.
Yes, ender, 80's to 90's was different. Starting in the latter half of the 80's the word "date rape" first starting being used and at college they started telling us that it wasn't cool. There was a lot of debate about how it wasn't fair to a boy if his date was too drunk to properly object, but that's when the discussion first started at all. Also the discussion of no actually meaning no, although I think that slogan didn't come around until later.
In the letter 80's or very early 90's some young adult men of prominent families in my town picked up a girl at a bar, took her to another bar, spiked her drink with valium, and then took her to a hotel and gang raped her. She went to the cops. Half the town was outraged because they said the girl knew what she was getting into when she agreed to go to the second bar. It was considered very sad that these promising young men could have their lives effected by this dark mark on their record over something so minor that was barely even unacceptable to begin with.
For the record, group fucking a drunk woman in the 70's would have been called rape by my peers as well. The idea that it was more socially accepted in the at any time point is ridiculous.
>>>>some Republican lawmakers who are saying that even if it happened it doesn't matter
Well, if it did happen, that means the guy is lying through his teeth. That is something happening right now, not 30 years ago, and by itself is reason to disqualify the guy from being promoted to the SCOTUS.
Ender- She went to a party as a high school girl, a young woman. Her reasons were her own. That's all that should matter.. I don't think she expected to be drugged and raped for going to a party. She presented a signed affidavit (?). You and Hillman think this is really just some convenient narrative? come on.
Check out my OP. I said I was skeptical at first due to timing. But I believe these brave women now and think this situation SCREAMS for serious investigation.
Short story to share that I've never told anyone because my best friend at the time - we were 15 years old - swore me to secrecy. I think the only person who knew was her older sister.
Now if this guy was running for public office, regardless if he was a Dem or a Republican, you can bet I'd speak out and encourage my friend to do so. As 15 year olds, we didn't tell anyone nor did we understand the concept of "date rape" anyway. Our biggest concern was having the parents find out we had been drinking and she also didn't want to be labeled a "slut". Times have changed..a little.
That summer a few of us went to his apartment - he was also a counselor at the summer camp, older than us though. We all left after having a shot of vodka, pickles and bread. Apparently it's a Russian thing. I honestly cannot remember how I got home. Maybe an older sibling drove us home. Anyway, he told us that he was going to drive my friend home. Yeah, we were dumb and trusting. Didn't find out till a few months later what actually happened. He gave her more vodka and fucked her. She was 15 years old, he was twenty something. She told me that she was too drunk to remember much - she got pregnant. Her older sister took her for an abortion. Lesson learned.
So, if she came forward now and named this guy would anyone believe her? Would this incident disqualify him for a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court? What if other young women came forward with similar stories? Would it warrant an FBI investigation to see if this guy had a history of "date raping" young women?
The fact that Kav is a judge and is telling these untruths is absolutely incredible.
During the Fox interview, he provided the unsolicited assertion that he was a virgin for many years after high school and that he was drinking legally as a senior in high school.
While the virgin statement seems more significant, yet difficult to verify at this moment, it is very easy to confirm that the legal age to drink all forms of alcohol was increased to 21 years old when K was 17 years old.
It's amazing that during an obviously "lawyered up" interview, K chose to either intentionally lie or to carelessly make an untrue statement.
Good point, Johnny. Either he’s lying or doesn’t know the law. And for someone who wants the lifetime appointment on the court, that should disqualify him, right there.
Oh Jesus Christ, I just googled the name of the guy - he’s now a Rabbi at a large congregation. I think it’s, him anyway. it’s been a long time, but his bio seems to match up as does his photo and name. I need to track down my old friend, we haven’t been in touch in years - and fess up to spilling the secret here, and ask if she wants speak out now.
Probably the same 29% that would support Donnie if he shot someone in Times Square. And once Mueller indicts Donnie, they won't care that he colluded with Russia either.
>29% of Americans polled said they supported Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination regardless of whether the allegation is true. (From PBS NewsHour)
Graham, who sits on the Judiciary Committee, questioned the validity of Swetnick’s claims.
“I have a difficult time believing any person would continue to go to — according to the affidavit — ten parties over a two-year period where women were routinely gang raped and not report it,” he said.
>>> “I have a difficult time believing any person would continue to go to — according to the affidavit — ten parties over a two-year period where women were routinely gang raped and not report it,” he said.
in a radio interview w/ michael moore, he said he spoke with bannon to be part of the film. paraphrasing, he basically said his side always wins because they aim for the head, dems bring pillows to the fight and they know it....
Kavanaugh will be denominated by Happy Hour on Friday (rim shot). He's just hanging out there right now with a bunch of skeletons coming from his closet of drunken escapades.
you still don't get it. I'm not defending the man I'm condemning the entire way this is being prosecuted. I don't care if this was obama being nominated, if the accusations were being levelled in the same manner I'd be saying the exact same thing. Yes the FBI can reopen the investigation any time they want to reopen it. Vox had a pretty good article breaking all this investigation stuff down. and these newest allegations would be a lot more believable if the women used a real lawyer instead of a publicity seeking attention whore of a creepy porn lawyer (and that's my formed opinion of avanetti)
We get it Hillman. You don’t believe any of the women. You think it’s a liberal deep rape state and you don’t see anything wrong with the way Republicans are handling this.
Hillman says Dems & press are all wrong for there whole process but nothing about GOP rush to fill SCOTUS seat. Didn't they once hold open a seat for over a year and now they need to rush it through in name of winning.
hill of beans. I doubt you are even seeing yourself in the mirror maybe foggy from taking a hot shower well maybe should take a cold shower
Do hill people wear a sweater vest also?
your pre-judgment is as clear as anyone else's let's wait till the facts arrive and then ignore them the main fact is the POTUS is a complete and utter POS
FACT
I'm 2023 we're gonna spend more money on debt than on the military
the national debt has gone up 50% in the last one year I'm glad all the rich assholes can send their kids to the frats
over 5000 incorrect statements or misleading statements since he took office
Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen has plead guilty to numerous federal crimes. And you Trump ass kissers.. ‘independent voters’ (lol) go off on the ‘creepy porn lawyer’ , who just happens to be a damn fine lawyer, and a lawyer who isn’t going to jail for mob crimes.
Regarding the potential FBI investigation, my understanding is that it's up to the POTUS to order it. Is that incorrect?
Alternatively, why would the Senate Judiciary Committee not push for the FBI investigation or at least subpoena other witnesses and/or people who were allegedly involved?
That would seem to be consistent with what you posted above, right?
Stunning new developments. Fox News is now reporting that the GOP has received statements from two anonymous men admitting that they were the ones who assaulted Dr. Ford. A clear case of mistaken identity.
yeah, last minute. Will these anonymous men, one of which was described by Graham as "crazy as a loon", come forward to give their names? The women did. Its a shitshow.
Don't think that the church lady has so far been too effective in her examination of the witness. Typical deposition type questions and the witness is handling it all really well. Guess its a little better optics than her being harassed by a bunch of slobbering old dudes.
Not sure. The GOP's attorney is attempting to get the witness to acknowledge various inconsistencies in her prior statements. However, Dr. Ford is handling it all well. Normally, in a criminal trial, the accused's attorneys would summarize all the various inconsistences in closing argument and hammer home how the prosecution bears the burden of proving the case beyond a reasonable doubt and how all the nit picky things add up to create that reasonable doubt.
However, this is not a criminal case. It is a job interview. I think Dr. Ford is handling all this as well as anyone could under the circumstances. I believe her and hope a couple GOP senators will set aside blind party loyalty, believe her too, and do the right thing and reject this guy's nomination.
The "optics" in this nomination are horrible for the GOP. Not only will they alienate a great percentage of women voters if they push it through, how would a Kavanaugh confirmation play to the African-American community, having this white perceived sex-assaulter serving on the highest court as convicted sex-assaulter Bill Cosby sits in a prison cell, his career in ruins?
Presidential moment Lindsey Graham all pissed people quoted his book about rape survivors courage when it doesn't benefit his team winning. Kavanaugh will be confirmed he said at break.
Lindsey America has lost your number you fucking clown.
the gop prosecutor is trying to undermine her memory. The fact is she testified that she is 100% confident it was Kavanaugh. and she knew Kavanaugh not stranger she picked out of the random line up
I'm biased but is sure seems like the Republicans have completely fucked themselves today and for what? There are at least a dozen other candidates who hold the same views but aren't douchy scum bags. They really need to stop only watching Fox news.
Who here thinks that abortion is a great thing to celebrate? No me. At least, it's not a procedure to be taken lightly. Nor should it be absolutely prohibited. (IMO)
I heard last night that he had a very short opening statement....
So far, I'm not seeing a dent in the armor of established tribalism. We'll see what the politicians and pundits have to say about it at the end of the day....
Jeeze, thought Senator Lindsey Graham was going to get up and beat someone with a cane like what happened to Charles Sumner on the senate floor back in 1856:

They simply won't have time before November. However, a new Congress will not be seated until January, so they might have time to start from scratch and get someone else in before then. But that will still be pushing it and they would have to decide right away whether to run with the teenage rapist or find someone new.

Well, with Clinton, there was some physical evidence of the lying. In this case, its a he said/she said. She sounds credible enough and I can totally see that guy as a creepy, rapey prep-school douche. But the lady's credible story, by itself, may not be enough to support an impeachment for lying under oath.

People really change a lot after that time period. However, I am concerned with the possibility that he might be lying NOW, which is not cool for a Supreme Court Justice. Needs to be investigated.

I spent the last 3 years of my hs days in a catholic school and those boys were clueless when it came to getting laid. They had a deal they called getting grabs. In 2009, massage therapist

Senate Judiciary Committee

Top of Page Bottom of Page PermalinkFull Name: Alias botb

Polygraphs aren't really

What it sounds like is that
What it sounds like is that if the existence of the letter had not been leaked to the press, that Feinstein would have kept this a secret and not told anyone there was a possible attempted rapist on the Supreme Court.

Kavanaugh still is innocent until proven guilty.
If the GOP judicial committee members play their cards right (including having a trustworthy investigation, or at least one which will satisfy all GOP senators) and Kavanaugh comes out clean, they still have the power to ram this nomination through.

Nope big difference Rachel is biased as are all people. Fox has an agenda which you can easily see with their revolving door employment policy with the Republican party. At least half the people running for President on the Republican side are auditioning for a job with Fox. ...

Amnesty International just
Amnesty International just says halt..
https://www.amnestyusa.org/press-releases/amnesty-international-usa-issu...
>September 24, 2018
Dear Senator,
Amnesty International USA calls on you to halt the vote on President Trump’s nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court of the United States.

People don't remember that
People don't remember that the word "date rape" wasn't even known to most people at that time (I think it was coined about 1986 or 87).

Short story to share that I
Short story to share that I've never told anyone because my best friend at the time - we were 15 years old - swore me to secrecy.

Kavanaugh has lied under oath about other non-sexual stuff that would (in more 'normal' times) likely get his confirmation defeated.
Documents stolen from Democrats ended up in his hands when he worked for GW Bush. He lied that they didn't.
He was cagey about $200,000 worth of baseball ticket debt that disappeared overnight.
He lied that he didn't know that a very well-known skirt chasing judge that he clerked for was a skirt-chaser.
He lied that he didn't work on Bush-era torture policy.
Kavanaugh is the most partisan judge nominated to the court in decades.
Read about Robert Bork, his confirmation was defeated with less 'controversy'.

Regarding the potential FBI investigation, my understanding is that it's up to the POTUS to order it. Is that incorrect?

That would seem to be consistent with what you posted above, right?
