Okay friends, I've had it with this quarantine thing...though I have been following all the rules....
Portland Ken, Noodler and I have been discussing an Oregon Zoner camping / music jam event for awhile… and now that some other summer plans just cancelled, I’m inspired today to invite Zoners who are game for a road trip at the end of August. I respect everyone's concerns about COVID, and found a site that complies with the regulations for those who, like me, are wanting an outdoor gathering.
I recently found an easy-to-access privately-owned farm on Hipcamp.com that has plenty of acreage for distancing, plus a huge barn with stage, sound/ light systems, green room, bunk room and dance floor.
The owner is a Deadhead, and also a fire dancer at Oregon Country Fair! When she heard about our idea, she offered to close off the site so that Zoners can freak freely!
Check out the slideshow of the property here> https://www.hipcamp.com/oregon/beaver-creek-artfarm-barn/beavercreek-art...
As part of Hipcamp, she has committed to following these COVID guidelines> https://support.hipcamp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043415632
The private Zoner night would be Saturday, August 29 — we would need a minimum of 25 people to pay $20 each, and I'll handle that transaction directly w/ the owner (off of Hipcamp platform).
On that day, I’m providing a paella cooked over wood fire and a salad for late lunch / early dinner (no cost).
Want to join us? Start a list on this thread, or my email is in my profile.
Play an instrument? Please shout out to Portland Ken or Noodler on this thread.
If you want to stay Friday or Sunday, you can book your own spot via the Hipcamp link.
Though the owner said she would accept last-minute deciders at the gate, it would be nice to know if we have a realistic chance of hitting the magic 25 number within the next week.
Virtual event poster details:
West Coast Zoner Jam on the central Oregon Coast
All campers will share:

Arrive on Friday August 28 for unstructured / unplanned / unorganized camping--- I'll definitely be there to set up. Tent sites will be available to rent to non-Zoners on this night. Book your own spot here: https://www.hipcamp.com/oregon/beaver-creek-artfarm-barn/beavercreek-art...

Glad to see there's been some good discussion and ideas since yesterday.
It hasn't felt like work, as it's only been conversations so far and the Artfarm landed in my lap when I was searching for something else!
The most work was organizing the info into my terribly long Viva post, LOL.
Anyhow, I have experience organizing and hosting events and bringing people together gives me joy.
I don't know all the Zoner musicans named above.... hopefully they'll see this thread at some point... but if anyone wants to nudge them, that would be appreciated.
But yeah, that bitch COVID is putting a damper on things. I get it. It's the summer of solo wilderness trips.
If fewer than 25 campers want to do something, there are 2 paths: 1) Be cool w/ general public campers at the same site and share all facilities there. or 2) Chip in more than $20 to make the site private.
If all falls apart, at least we got a site for 2021!
Let's keep talking...thanks to those who've posted so far...the owner has placed a hold on August 29th until we make a decision.

I looked it up on MapQuest,
I looked it up on MapQuest, and it would be an 8-hour drive for me from Humboldt's Lost Coast to the ArtFarm... so it's certainly do-able from an accessibility standpoint... but, a pretty long drive for only one or two days
and then the COVID reality hit me... I'm in that high-risk group that's over 65, with other issues that make it risky for me to forego the relative safety of self-isolation and mix with folks (albeit, MY KIND of freaky folks) coming from all over
heck, I can't even bring myself to visit friends who live much closer... I've been wanting to go see Mark D but haven't been able to pull the trigger b/c of COVID anxiety and related fallout
so, better count me out this time, but when circumstances change I'll definitely keep this one in the hopper

Having lived in the general
Having lived in the general region, (Lobster Valley, Philomath, Eddyville) I can say that the population density is considerably lower in comparison to anywhere outside of Sahara Desert.
Been there along the Coast between Newport and Seal Rock dozens of times. Not a huge crowd of people... and stepping a mile or two off the Coast makes it even more Serene. It's almost like Outer Space in terms of masses of people. Zoners would be the largest mass Gathering ever.
Maybe except for the burning man sub-groups that have Enormous gatherings in that area ?
Actually, the place which LLOLLO speaks of is about the most isolated and Bacteria - free place one could ever locate. So the Feary Frighty folks should just stay home and watch TV.

They go over to a parcel of private land on the east side of the Cascades. Thy used to do their thing at a place out on Sauvie Island near Portland but too many looky loos started showing up and drawing too much attention to the gatherings. At one of their events not too long ago, they built a full size, functional catapult which they used to launch flaming balls at the giant art installation that was to be burned. Wonder if more people would be willing to brave the Covid and show up for this event if it involved life size catapults shooting flaming balls?

For anyone who thinks this is true, note that there are other ways to acquire these things without contact with humans. Stamps can be ordered through USPS.com, fuel (gas for cars) can be procured by paying by card with only you touching the card, you pulling the receipt yourself and a station worker handling the pump, groceries can be pre-ordered and delivered or picked up in the parking lot of the grocery store. There are ways to stay away from people.

My one time in Oregon I pulled up to a pump and a scruffy looking guy comes walking up to my car. I thought, "Oh jeez, this guy's gonna' beg for money."
I didn't believe him when he said he worked for the station. He had to explain how it worked in Oregon.
I felt uncomfortable having someone else pumping my gas, but it reminded me of when I was a kid and my dad would say, "Fill 'er up with Ethel!"
Still seems kind of strange, why do they do that again?

Hey all, Just returned home from my longest hike in a while -- did the Silver Falls Loop east of Salem. Note to self: Don't go to a state park on a weekend... but I found good space once deep into the trails and saw many waterfalls, the tallest one was over 150 ft ...

KeseyB -- Now that you mentioned you would like to play blacklight ping-pong (late-night activity for sure!).. I am selfiishly wishing your plans might change a little to make it happen, LOL. ;)

Llollo, thanks for putting time and effort into WCZJ planning! It's especially good that you found a place committed to following the COVID guidelines, it seems like a great location and all things considered as safe as it can be in a pandemic. I have an abundance of vacation to use up this year (or loose it) and it's cheaper than ever to fly these days so I'm in if this gets confirmed. Assuming east coast folks are allowed.
Getting to 25 people might be pushing it but based on the definitelys and the maybes posted above and maybe a few of their friends, would there be 10 people, is that enough? I'm willing to contribute a little more if it helps make it a private zoner event. Guessing most people would prefer that.

Hi Surfdead, Yes, I get those press releases at work.
The exact language states: "Effective Wednesday, July 15, Oregon’s face covering requirement will be expanded to apply to outdoor public spaces when six feet of distance cannot be maintained. In addition, indoor social get-togethers of more than 10 people will be prohibited. The gathering limit applies only to indoor social get-togethers. This new rule does not change the operation of businesses or churches at this time."
Therefore, camping and outdoor activity would be allowed and small groups indoors. One could argue that we are a faith-based community, but I won't go that far. ;) I would be amazed if we get a dozen people. A masked test run for 2021. If one doesn't want to wear a mask or keep proper distance or get their temperature checked at the gate, don't come this year. I'll continue to be in strict quarantine from now until the end of August myself.
Hey C>R! If you are already quarantining and don't mind the flight, of course, all Viva-Zoners welcome. 10 people @ $50 a piece would be all we need to close off the site... but I support a sliding scale based on what is affordable to each individual.

We have a fair bit of people at work flying again and they say it's not bad. One person's wife is a dentist and she recommended double mask protection and so that's what he did.
I have been romanticizing another cross country road trip but I'm sure ten hours into it I'd probably be thinking WTF. On the other hand, there should be less traffic this year than in any other year.

Dear Llollo
Dear Llollo
I do appreciate the offer, your kindness & the way you think. We are a social group & all desperately miss live music.
Until a vaccine or something is available I can not come. It is not due to my age or frailty but is because my wife's medication makes her immunocompromised.
But in spite of the fact that I can not attend I am happy to contribute $20 toward a good time.
Please talk to Katie & she will give you my phone number & you can tell me where to send the bucks.
While none of us know how much longer we will live, 20 more years or 20 more minutes, it is unfortunate that we have to endure these necessary restrictions.
When this crisis is over, be it next year or whenever, I truly hope we can all be together in love, peace & music.
I pray that you & everyone stays well.
Always yours

Dear Crabneesh,
Thanks for your sweet note. I want you and your wife to stay well in hopes that I can visit you at a later date!
Who knows.... If we rig up a live stream, you can join in that way.
This will be a pioneer year with whoever shows up .....to prepare for a better event at the same location next year!
I was in touch w/ Katie last night!
LLTD must've seen this and sent me your contact info.
I'll ring you this weekend just for fun... no donations necessary!

Last I heard, Ken was bringing his bass, and I'll be bringing my guitar (still can't 100% commit, but it's very likely i'll be there). Figure we'd see what zoner players were able to make it, then possibly fill holes if needed.
Sounds like there's a stage in the barn with PA and a drum set, so can rock out accordingly... but if it's only a few of us, could go acoustic around the campfire, singalong style, or even run power and do an electric campfire, this would allow more free expression from any drum circles that might devolve... (I can bring some of those damn egg shakers if I can find them too, they're around here somewhere).
I'd give my musical resume, but it mostly happened in Corvallis, so nobody remembers it, including me!

Good news: Lincoln County, the location of WCZJ, was just removed from our state's COVID "watch list". More detail from a local news article:
Counties are added to the watch list when the coronavirus is spreading quickly within the county and cases are sporadic — meaning they can't be traced to a source, indicating community spread, according to the press release. Counties will be added to the list if they have a sporadic case rate of 50 or more cases per 100,000 people and more than five sporadic cases in the last two weeks, among other metrics.

A quick musical update;
A quick musical update;
In the process of finding out what kind of PA equipment they have there (speakers? mixers? mics / stands? cables? monitors? etc), along with CD players / tape decks. If they have WIFI, be cool to hook up a laptop(?) and stream any moment from any show at a whimsy!
I'll be bringing my acoustic and electric guitars along w/ my tiny Princeton amp, it can get pretty decent tone at very quiet volumes. Since a small group, i'm thinking campfire mode for playing, vs blow the roof off, LOL... besides, at the moment, it's just 2 confirmed melodic players (with a third in the wings).
Songwise, I dug into my archives and found old lyric sheets to a bunch of GD songs, originals of mine, some other cool blasts from the past, along with hundreds of songs i've played over the years and have no memory of anymore, so that's been a lot of fun. Going to try and put together a potential song list this weekend and get it off the Ken. Likewise, have asked him to send me anything he'd like to do. Looking forward to jamming with everyone!
Otherwise, I just did the tour of all the pics on their website, and that barn looks large and quite comfortable... may not even use the stage, but do a more open circle of friends format, kind of like that idea, very intimate... also, the fire pit appears to be just outside the barn, for easy transitions from shade to stars. Think I'll grab a few pics off their website and post them.

Hey all,
Hey all,
For any who are holding a Friday night Hipcamp reservation, you should have received this info already... but just thought I'd add it here, too.
From Willow, the owner of Artfarm Barn
❤️Follow is on Instagram @ heartbarn (our barn’s new name),and Please tag us &/or DM me with any great photos taken here :)
Directions to the Artfarm Barn (we are directly in between Newport and Waldport.)
278 N. S-Low Rd. Seal Rock, Or. 97376
—If you come in from hwy 20 or 101 in Newport, you'll head South in 101 8 miles, then get Turn lane at Ona Beach State Park. Take that left onto N. Beaver Creek Rd. and go 1 mile. Veer right onto S. Beaver Creek Rd. and go 2.8 miles. Turn left onto N. S-Low road (gravel dead end road) and go less than 1 mile. Our driveway is the second Property on the right. 278 the sign says art farm barn. Drive slowly down our bumpy driveway and stay to the right to park at the barn.
— Feel free to look around at everything and find the perfect place for you to camp; either in the meadow across from main barn entrance; or big field around the right side of the barn. (Take extra slow care crossing over the little bridge to the field if you take your car out there.) No Rvs or trailers on that side please. The meadow in front of the barn is perfect for big vehicle camping.
—Additional info:

Power strip inside side barn door(fire pit side) is to charge things and also it turns on xmas/ night lights. Other power strip above gas stove in kitchen turns on dining room table overhead lights.\
Parents Note:
(Dog Parents too: pond, ditch, and creek)
Please remember that the barn is Not child proofed, although it’s super fun for supervised kiddos to play in. We have a funky pond in front of the parking lot, as well as the creek that borders the property mostly hidden by the tall grass. Just a reminder to keep an eye on the littles :)
I also now have an instant propane powered hot water shower! 1.turn ON water faucet and open grey/blue hose. 2. Turn ON propane tank outside of shower house. 3 turn on end of hose attached to white shower box. 4 after shower, please turn OFF propane and water hose. :)
I also now have fire wood for sale by the camp fire. Just put 5$ per bundle sized load you use in the big jar at the woodshed. Kindling there too, &waxed cardboard(the best fire starter ever, just use a tiny square at a time.)
Feel free to use as many fallen branches as you want to get the fire going too.
And fully extinguish fire when you are done. Green Water hose will fill up bucket for communal fire. Have a bucket of water at your camp, if you have a portable fire pit there.
