The Simple Twist of Fates
The Simple Twist of Fates from this era always incredible. Garcia can play so quiet and delicate.
These versions are part of why Dylan called Garcia the best interpreter of his music.

Was listening to Feb tour '80
Was listening to Feb tour '80 the last couple nights and I thought are there any other artists that can enrapture a ballad like Garcia? Not only a ballad, but sometimes slow enough where it's on the outskirts of stopping.
Can't think of many. Sinatra could hold the moment in a similar way. Different era, different music, but a comparable quiet bombast. That being said, he wasn't doing a 17-minute Twist of Fate.
More modern contemporaries? Maybe they exist, just blanking.

Yes JP. Amazing how he could pull that off.
I was listening to SUNY Oswego a couple of days ago, and it is simply unreal how he can go from a fast, face-melting thing like
After Midnight-->Eleanor Rigby-->After Midnignt, then do something like you described.
Unparalleled, IMO.

It was such a ridiculous combo that worked so well; no wonder he only did it a few times. Too cool to burn out.
I think I have another one from Keystone Berkeley.

How mant times has the JGB
How many times has the JGB played Friend of the Devil? I've never seen it or heard one except the show I posted above.
And yep, that's the place krab.
But only the shows with blue dates have bootlegs or soundboards Some if not most are not top notch quality.

Hell yes Krab! Thanks for the link. Looking forward to hearing this one.
Doolittle, the Friend of the Devil question occurred to me as I was listening to that show. After a quick check it looks like FOTD was played 5 or 6 times
from the end of '79 through '80.
I saw Garcia and Kahn do this, as well as Garcia/Grisman, but never the JGB. Awesome.

Looks like the debut with JGB, along w/Sugaree, was on a tour of the Northeast with Nikki Hopkins in late October '75.
Show from a couple weeks earlier at Keystone has a version of You Win Again. Starts @ 32 minutes.
