Thought Gregg or Jaimoe would go first. Despite his shenanigans, RIP Butch.

For real?

Only confirmation I see is 3rd party on his FB page

Where did you hear this?

Damn

Recent interview

“What we have here is really special, because we’ve got three lead guitarists,” he said. “We’ve got the whole triad, and it’s really fuller and richer. We do ‘Jessica’ with three-part harmonies, and it really does sound good.”

RIP

in lieu of flowers...........

Serious bummer

Wow....now that does suck.....as a matter of fact aging sucks....somehow we all all know when that biological clock swings the other way and then time is limited.....remember when you thought you would live forever, I sure do

Ah shit. That's why you should see Phil, Bob or whoever while you can. Unfortunately it's later than you think. Rip Butch

Rest in peace, Butchie.

This could be Alex Kofords big break.

>>>>>.....remember when you thought you would live forever, I sure do

No, I can't remember that far back.

RIP

Now that's  funny Surf....but I'm sure you do

Bummer. RIP Butch.

The road does not go on forever. It's a short trip folks.

Well, Darn It.

Rest In Peace, Butch. Really sad news today.

Damn, sorry to hear this. RIP Butch.

I can't believe Gregg outlived him.

RIP Butch

That sucks.

Couple of pieces of Butch Trucks trivia:

* He grew up in a strict Baptist household and his parents wouldn't let him get a drum kit until he was in the 11th grade and only after he swore he would never play in a place that served liquor.

* After high school, he played timpani and percussion with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra (guess they didn't serve liquor).

* He stormed out of a late era Grateful Dead show, swearing how he wanted to jump up on stage and punch Mickey in the face during Drumz.  Apparently, he thought the band's playing was lazy, Mickey's shtick gimmicky, and the whole production insulting to the huge number of fans who had traveled from far away and paid good money to see them.

1980 was a banner year for me.

It started with seeing the Allman Brother's Touring behind the Enlightened Rogues LP in January at the Capitol Theater in Passaic.
(I saw them a couple a times there each year in '81, '82 and '83 too)
This was the Dangerous Dan Toler Era....

RIP BUTCH - you will sorely and surely be missed.

I subsequently saw Pink Floyd do the Wall at Nassau in February.
Jorma and Vital Parts  at the Capitol in March
The Eagles at Giant's Stadium in June.
Yes at MSG in September.
Jethro Tull at MSG in September
(My first) 3 Grateful Dead Shows at Radio City Music Hall in October.
Frank Zappa at the Palladium in October.

I also had tickets to Led Zep but that got scratched by fate.

Butchie gone ?   Better check the usual suspects.  Anybody know the whereabouts of Mr Betts ?

Cause of death?

>>>>>Butchie gone ?   Better check the usual suspects.  Anybody know the whereabouts of Mr Betts ?

Or Butchs Coke dealer?  He better hope Gregg doesn't know who he is.

Wow, guess teh R & R lifestyle grabs another too soon.

Damn, he was a tad annoying about the importance of the ABs but hey he played right up until the end.

RIP Butch

And the Trucks Family, Derek etc.

And lest we forget the "Sweet Family"

He was a great drummer, and the sound he & Jaimoe made together for a long time a long time ago was truly one of a kind.

Service is available on Moogis.

RIP Butch. Had some great times at ABB shows starting in 1990's. One of the first lots were I discovered my tribe!

1994 HORDE Shoreline (need recording)

1995 Mansfield, MA (need recording)

1996 Concord Pavilion (Last show in Concord ever)

Also got the DVD Live at the Beacon Theatre 2003 (Best of Derek Trucks & Warren Haynes era)

Butch thanks for memories and good times. Two bands pioneered multiple drummers and we can't thank them enough for paving the way. THANKS RIP.

RIP Brother...la-et-ms-butch-trucks-dead-20170125.jpg

So many great shows. I thought 2009 was their best post-Duane year, with the 40th anniversary Beacon shows all captured for posterity on video. Thank Butch (and Moogis) for that one - and many more.

Freight Train has left the station....

Damn, Bluest. Made me snortle. Even if a minute too soon.

((Shenanigans))

If this were PZ, I'd have been late by hours:)

I was shocked to read this today. Gotta go put on some ABB. Sail on Butch.

Hard to believe that Dick survived Mary, that Gregg survived Butch and that Keith Richards survived Dwight Eisenhower.

I'm not sure that the Allman Brothers would have survived Duane's death if not for Butch.

Butch was an SOB in the same "get the job done" way as Bill Graham.

{{{{{RIP you SOB}}}}}}

thanks for the music

RIP Butch

was really looking forward to seeing the band in April. just bought tix a few days ago.does anyone think its possible that they will continue the tour with Duane Trucks on the kit.there are no dates for panic during the freight train tour

Butch Trucks was in my sister's Everquest guild.

A great drummer alone and with Jai.

Stayed true to the political game.

An asshole toward Betts.

RIP Trucks.

RIP Butch

I owe Butch and the ABB boys a lifetime of gratitude for so many great, transcendent musical adventures, for me going back to around 1978/79  Enlightened Rogues Tours. That's right, Treblemaker, Dangerous Dan (RIP) and Rick Goldflies on Bass, but always Jaimoe and Butch on Drums, later with Marc Quinones adding to the percussive attack.

I've seen the Allman Brothers Band more times than any other band except the Grateful Dead. They were, as Bill Graham once introduced them at The Fillmore East, "The finest contemporary American music."

I got to see them in a High Altitude Box Canyon in Telluride, Colorado in 1991. That remains my favorite show out of dozens of Allman Brothers Band experiences. I couldn't even count the number of ABB shows and blazing drum duets & trios I've seen at The legendary Beacon Theatre in NYC. For all these experiences and accomplishments, for Butch's mastery behind the drum kit and for his diligence, as de facto band manager, keeping it all going for decades (even though you were a controversial figure) , I have to say THANK YOU, BUTCH TRUCKS , May you REST IN PEACE...

Condolences to The Trucks Family, ABB Family and fans...

From Warren Haynes:

RIP Butch Trucks: “After all the devastating losses of 2016 I can’t believe it. I’m still in shock. I am truly honored to have played music and shared life with Butch for over 25 years. He was one of a kind-as a drummer and as a human being. Butch was part of what is unfortunately now a dying breed of musicians who served with honor like soldiers. He put 110% of his self into every song he played. He was the Lou Gehrig of rock drummers. I’ve seen him play many times when he was injured or sick and most people would have bailed or phoned it in. Not Butch. He would play with the utmost intensity till he was about to fall over with no regrets. He was very proud of the fact that up until our last shows in 2014 he was the only member of the band who had never missed a show. His mission in life was to serve the music. And serve the music he did. Butch considered the Allman Brothers Band music to be reverent and each performance to be of the highest level of importance and he drove that “freight train” like no other could. We miss you Butchie.” - WH

We were at that 91 Telluride show as well-- a night that revitalized my interest in the Brothers, and is still deep in my memory.

We couldn't wait to get to Red Rocks (first time) the following 4th of July weekend in 1992- and  were pleasantly blown away from the 5th row.

Many great memories from that band though 1996, including that great weekend at the Reno Hilton in  August, when we met Gregg.

Jaimoe was on the sick list that night, so Butch & Mark handled it themselves - didn't miss a beat.

Great quote from Warren.

>I've seen the Allman Brothers Band more times than any other band except the Grateful Dead.

Eventually my ABB count surprassed my GD count.

That man had many stories to tell.

Very influential drummer.  Sorry to hear he moved on.  Never missed a shoe! amazing.   i wonder what Mickey and Billy are thinking right about now...

YIKES just heard he offed himself ala Vince Welnick in front of his wife.

Heard that yesterday but didn't want to repeat it because it was a rumor.

Apparently nobody gets out of The Allman Brothers alive.

Except Dickey Betts

How fucking sad...

over taxes?

fuck

Dear God...

thats the story that was floating around those who know things here in the county yesterday, and i guess a reporter got it out of a despather.

fukin a.

RIP Butch. If true, what a sad and pretty fucked up end to a life.

Pretty sad.   Leave it up to the Daily Mail to bring out the sordid details.

>over taxes?

Suicide due to finacial issues has been on the rise.  It certainly isn't anything to pull the trigger over but the IRS are the most ruthless gangsters out there.

RIP Butch.  Peace to his family.

So sad. Play on drummer......

So fuckin sad. The extreme tax bill was probably just the icing on the cake to trigger this tragedy. The years of the alcohol and drug abuse may have opened up a Pandora's box to depression or another mental illness. May he RIP.

This is so sad.

The ABB was my favorite band after the GD.

I guess as long as the ABB toured and he made big bucks he could keep the hounds off him. The small bands and venues he played now couldn't help his financial situation and his finances collapsed.

It's bad enough, but to do it in front of your wife! I don't know about that.

He left her holding the bag.

Weir has been on the receiving end of being left holding the bag with suicide more than once, I think people should cut him some slack, this cuts too close to home for him in many ways. I'm not implying Trucks did this to get to Bob, it's just that he already has significant battle wounds in this arena; it doesn't take much to imagine this sort of thing brings it all up to the surface for him.

Am I missing something here Dice? What does Bob Weir have to do with this?

Such a sad end to a long story.

Has Jaimoe made any public statement yet? Those two were more than partners, more than brothers; they truly shared one heartbeat.

On a different note, if this doesn't bring Pete Jennings back to the zone nothing will.

I am gonna say it was more than financial issues.

Not saying he didn't have those problems, but speculating that he shot himself in front of his wife over that? Really?

And what the fuck does Bob Weir have to do with this? Really? How is he on the "receiving end" of Trucks's suicide, any more than any of us are?

Sorry Lance, I was mostly musing on other threads I've seen bashing Weir for being a no-show at the STI show last night, but didn't feel like searching/posting on the neggy thread I saw, or bouncing it up to the top. My comment wasn't regarding anyone on the thread in particky

 :D

Cam... dude re-read my post. I was referring to Vince Welnick. and said specifically it wasn't about Trucks personally..geez. If you don't know the history, cool, but I'm not doing your homework for you there.

It does seem that Bob is taking it on the chin pretty hard in that other thread for missing a show.

Reading that thread a while ago made me feel close to the good old Philzone.org

I always enjoy hearing people who know exactly what's going on when they have absolutely no idea of what's going on.

I don't presume to know what's on Bob's mind, but I don't think it's a stretch to speculate that the circumstances might open up old wounds for the man, and you know..maybe consider he's human, but you're the innie...

I know compassion is a somewhat obtuse form of communication on the zone.

Sorry to be kinda heartless  about this  but shooting yourself in the head in front of your wife = total selfish fucking asshole!  I think I remember reading somewhere that Butch was pretty much a asshole in everyday life but I did not know him and can not confirm.   Anyway the whole dealio sucks!
