Dupree's Diamond News, Golden Road, Unbroken Archive

Cool to see those old issues!

The founder of Dupree's lived in Portland for years, though not sure if he still does.

Loved Dupree's. Each issue was like a special present.

I still have a stack somewhere. Maybe I'll dig them out this weekend.

was so fun always seeing what was played. cool deal, thanks.

Yes, I have some pride seeing the covers I did for Golden Road. That was a fun time in a colorful world (pre computer art, at least at my house).

I have every issue of Duprees the magazine.  Ran across one of the flyers just last week.

I'm pretty sure Dupree's still owes me a year.

I loved the Dupree's flyers at shows and still have a decent stack of them. Always really informative with set lots, etc and provided insights on what/where shows may be coming next too.

I like how Blair calls you the rubber stamp artist extrordinaire Judit

Judit, are you the artist behind some of those fractal-like pastel colored cover designs from around 89-90? Great Stuff!

I have pdfs for all 27 issues of Golden Road. Not sure best way to share with VLZ.

StrawBud, these are the ones I did. I carved all of the images (from erasers) and inked my own ink pads so I could get the color placement I wanted.
It was great working with Blair and seeing my art come to life on the magazines.

Judit, Mrs. LCL has every copy of the Golden Road.

It's really cool you designed those covers.

We hope you are well.

Oh Great, Judit!! Those are the ones to which I was referring. Nice Work!

...whichever issue has the LA Forum Dec '89 review is also the one I have signed by Dr Tim Leary too - likely the 2nd pic that you posted, Judit. [He was listed as a happy attendee in the review] LOL

LCL, Mrs. LCL has collected some cool stuff. Well, she has for sure, and so have you.

I'm pretty well, and I hope you and Mrs. LCL are. I hope she's on the other side of it all.

Thanks, StrawBud.

Nice work Judit, have any other art to share?

Your art is beautiful Judit. It's cool to know that connection.

Judit, nice. I've been lugging around your art for over 30 years.... who knew?

speaking of which... what should I do with all this GD memorabilia, newspaper clippings, magazines, etc?  Sadly, none of my younger relatives would appreciate it, much less cherish it. Hell, I've even held on to my cassettes.

>>>> speaking of which... what should I do with all this GD memorabilia,

lots of collectors out there.

offer it all up as a single package for a reasonable price and someone will buy it.

Great walk down memory lane.

Very cool Judit!

The Florida humidity fucked up all my cassettes, I miss the hiss

Beautiful work Judit!  Now how about you get those made into stickers!

Thanks for the link. Digital archives are cool. Don't ever ditch your pen and paper. Thanks for your pictures, Judit, those must have been amazing times.

Loved The Golden Road and Dupree's back in the day. Got a subscription to GR early on, and it was always fun picking up a copy of DDN at shows. I don't think I ever ran into UBC tho.

Still got a shit ton of them stashed in boxes- including that spring 90 GR above.

Duprees got pretty lame - took longer and longer for them to get out the latest issues- then they started  making excuses.  I think they were just too stoned and always going on tour.

Johnny Dwork had OCD over the February 70 Fillmore East shows.

Thanks, Bss heart. That one used a real fortune I got in a cookie, but commercial stamps.

The following ones are some of the ones I had printed; they use stamps I carved.

Small world. That issue 17 of the Golden Road also has my tour buddies pictures from Oxford in there. The one of Mickey ended up being in the calender for that year too.

That's some excellent stuff Judit. So is all the white area the carved out area?

Wow Judit, love all of them, but especially the Deadheads for Disarmament.

T-shirt designs come to mind. Have you made scans to preserve them?

Judit your work looks like a shirt I got at a show, It said Fuck Nukes in a rose vine script, and people dancing around a nuclear reactor if I remember correctly

my mom used to love that shirt and wore it all the time, I finally told her what the rose vine script said. She never drank, smoked or cussed in all of her life and it was a great moment telling her she was wearing a shirt with the word fuck on it all this time, kinda shocked her but i definitely got a giggle out of her, and a deviant grin.

doolittle, the large white areas are the background paper onto which I stamped (in the original). Otherwise, the white spaces are what I carved out.

LLOLLO, I still have the originals of these and many, many others. I've only scanned a few of them. I had one shirt printed (all one color mandala of skeletons and hearts and small roses) and bandanas of a few designs. There was a time when I sold bandanas and postcards to GD Merchandising but they didn't sell so well. I also did mail order but mostly outside Northern California GD and JGB shows.

fabes, I didn't make that shirt but I love the connection with your mom.
