I loved the Dupree's flyers at shows and still have a decent stack of them. Always really informative with set lots, etc and provided insights on what/where shows may be coming next too.
StrawBud, these are the ones I did. I carved all of the images (from erasers) and inked my own ink pads so I could get the color placement I wanted.
It was great working with Blair and seeing my art come to life on the magazines.
...whichever issue has the LA Forum Dec '89 review is also the one I have signed by Dr Tim Leary too - likely the 2nd pic that you posted, Judit. [He was listed as a happy attendee in the review] LOL
Judit, nice. I've been lugging around your art for over 30 years.... who knew?
speaking of which... what should I do with all this GD memorabilia, newspaper clippings, magazines, etc? Sadly, none of my younger relatives would appreciate it, much less cherish it. Hell, I've even held on to my cassettes.
Thanks for the link. Digital archives are cool. Don't ever ditch your pen and paper. Thanks for your pictures, Judit, those must have been amazing times.
Loved The Golden Road and Dupree's back in the day. Got a subscription to GR early on, and it was always fun picking up a copy of DDN at shows. I don't think I ever ran into UBC tho.
Still got a shit ton of them stashed in boxes- including that spring 90 GR above.
Duprees got pretty lame - took longer and longer for them to get out the latest issues- then they started making excuses. I think they were just too stoned and always going on tour.
Johnny Dwork had OCD over the February 70 Fillmore East shows.
Small world. That issue 17 of the Golden Road also has my tour buddies pictures from Oxford in there. The one of Mickey ended up being in the calender for that year too.
Judit your work looks like a shirt I got at a show, It said Fuck Nukes in a rose vine script, and people dancing around a nuclear reactor if I remember correctly
my mom used to love that shirt and wore it all the time, I finally told her what the rose vine script said. She never drank, smoked or cussed in all of her life and it was a great moment telling her she was wearing a shirt with the word fuck on it all this time, kinda shocked her but i definitely got a giggle out of her, and a deviant grin.
doolittle, the large white areas are the background paper onto which I stamped (in the original). Otherwise, the white spaces are what I carved out.
LLOLLO, I still have the originals of these and many, many others. I've only scanned a few of them. I had one shirt printed (all one color mandala of skeletons and hearts and small roses) and bandanas of a few designs. There was a time when I sold bandanas and postcards to GD Merchandising but they didn't sell so well. I also did mail order but mostly outside Northern California GD and JGB shows.
fabes, I didn't make that shirt but I love the connection with your mom.
