Excellent, excellent show. Terrific playing by the entire band, but special shout-out is in order to the "magnificent" Holly Bowling (per Phil's band intro, and he was spot on), who crushed it. Lineups changing throughout the summer but if you have the chance, go see Phil on this tour

What's interesting to me about the Dead $ Co model, and by interesting I mean disturbing, is they've re-adopted the very thing that killed the Grateful Dead.

They liked the money/success
They liked the money/success too and, yep, likely would have continued if things "held up". Maybe Phil found a little nitch this Summer by mostly playing smaller, really decent places but is he even close to packing them? It is what it is so get it (whatever IT is for you) while you can. DeadCo has a certain model/appeal to a relatively significant segment of the community as does Phil, just on a different scale/scope. This differing contrast doesn't need to split the overall community.

That picture is sweet, with Mt. Jumbo in in the background. My old stomping grounds and I used to live about a mile from the venue toward the base of the mountain (long before the venue was even a concept) at an old Italian POW camp turned into a hippie compound.

i'll have to listen to to this, as the seattle show was not really too hot musically. it was ok...but...

People seem to forget that the Grateful Dea spent most of '73 and '74 in stadiums and their touring career featured large concerts and stadiums through all the subsequent years. It's not like the last couple of years they were relegated to stadiums and that caused their demise......bad health and certainly bad crowd behavior was an issue. The latter doesn't seem to be an issue in 2022.
What's interesting to me about the Dead $ Co model, and by interesting I mean disturbing, is they've re-adopted the very thing that killed the Grateful Dead
I don't see that. They are playing venues that for better or worse accommodate the number of people that want to see them. Folsom field was packed to the gills last night. I love Phil and he is playing venues commensurate with his drawing power. And they are indeed much nicer places.

No doubt. I'm just saying that after 7 years you don't see press like in the 90s and D&C aren't banned from venues, there aren't fear mongering articles in the papers before they arrive. It's much to the contrary actually.

Agreed about the Frost. There were moments when things really worked, but it definitely wasn't the kind of show that sizzled from start to finish. Now, if Scofield had been replaced by Tom Hamilton, that might have been something worth writing home about, I think.

Do you have anybody particular in mind?
Stu Allen. He's available, is a great player and can work with Phil. The rest of the folks Phil draws on all have other gigs. Phil, Stu, Holly Bowling, Molo and even Graham playing on a consistent basis would deliver a consistently good product and would be consistent with where Phil is at in terms of what JillCo is willing to pay for and deal with.

Phil and Molo were 100% locked in at this show. And Grahame and Stu have played a number of gigs together recently, plus all the years at Terrapin, and it shows. I also thought Stu stepped out more than I've heard him do recently, and had a fuller and more energy-carrying tone than I expected. Deal was a particular highlight but there were a number of songs he just ripped on

While Marymoor was a good
While Marymoor was a good solid show, Missoula with Molo and Holly was next level. Phil was crisper and deeper (like, bassier) in the mix as well, better set list too. Shakedown was boogie heaven.

Looking forward to hearing this, as I'm especially interested in the shows with Holly Bowling. Saw Phil, Stu, and Holly at TXR in the park, and it was the most "musical" performance we saw there. Stu and Holly playing off each other was brilliant.

I remember reading somewhere
I remember reading somewhere that one of the things Bob didn't like about Furthur was that Phil always wanted him to play different every night. What sounds to us like unrehearsed is probably the thing that gets Phil out of bed at this point. It's a feature not a bug.
