We've had mid-90s the last couple three weeks, with overnight lows only going down to the high-60s, and daytime relative humidity in the teens and twenties. Fire weather they call it. lol
ISSUED: 12:49 PM JUL. 27, 2022 – NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM PDT SATURDAY... * WHAT...Moderate heat risk. High temperatures 93F to 98F. Low temperatures 60F to 70F. * WHERE...In Oregon, Lower Columbia and South Willamette Valley. In Washington, I-5 Corridor in Cowlitz County. * WHEN...Until 9 PM PDT Saturday. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses to occur. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...There is a 70% chance that high temperatures will drop into the low 90s or lower Sunday. Overnight low temperatures will generally fall in the lower 60s most nights between now and Saturday, but the higher hills of the region will experience low temperatures between 65F to 70F.
It was 72 when I woke up at 4:30 AM, but it's only gotten up to the high 80s here so far because we've got some high, thin cloud cover from the monsoon system, which we're catching the periphery of. We won't get rain, but a few degrees less today is okay by me.
Lots of hundreds to mid teens all over the great Pacific NW today.
But a low is approaching from the SW, combined with some monsoonal moisture from the desert SW, and the convective models are just starting to forecast thunderstorms in more areas than usual.
(100 strikes today in Siskyou county, and my friend in the S. Cal desert said the lightning show was nuts tonight!).
Models storm forecast for the weekend (will likely be some changes)
Could be a fun way to end a heat wave for the storm deprived (the storms should be wetter with each day), vs being prepared for all the new fire outbreaks this will likely cause.
The models are now bringing Hurricane Frank up and just off the westcoast later next week, that could get interesting. Hopefully there'll be some wetting rains with it.
(For those at Veneta 82, something similar is what caused it to dump heavy rain later that night)
Thanks for sharing those models/graphics, Noodler. It is not entirely out of character for Vegas to get some monsoonal activity this time of year (usually more so into Aug though) but it was still raining LAST night after this wild activity on Thursday night.
This mornings visible pic shows SW OR getting smoked out. (The current pic isn't as clear cut, but most of S OR is smoked out, with the smoke moving north)
Most of Oregon was between 95 and 100 today, even Astoria made it up to 88. (the coast south of there only cool part of the state).
Storms popping up on the east side of the cascades. Smoke from the fires in the house too, and that pesky low that generated some rare west side thunderstorms last week will finally be coming ashore this week, providing a nice cool down, and another chance of storms monday night - weds (current vague forecast, models don't deal with cut off lows very well)
