Nepo Babies in the Jamband Universe

I'm fine with him doing Bobby songs, but not like mission in the rain encores

few areas of american life/culture are more rife with nepo babies than the current touring bands of aging classic rock acts

 Nepo Lesh is fine, but he's worth $25, not $125.

The unfiltered fact is that Grahame Lesh does not belong stage with the likes of professional musicians. We all know he's a super nice guy and is apple of Phil's beaming eye but at the same time, maybe he could have a little self awareness (like Brian) and just do his own thing and leave daddy alone. The last Cap run was brutal. Stepping on other guitar solos, screechy singing and getting in the way. That junk was fine for free at the TXR bar but not theater stages. 

All this angst about him cracks me up.   Phil is 82 and enjoying playing with his son, so be it.  It's your choice not to go.  

I haven't seen Phil since winter 2008 due to location but also due to just interest.

Went to 10/22, the boy has zero stage presence, please no more Dylan.  He was cringe worthy on Masterpiece.

he's really grown on me. his vocals are fine...i mean how many "good" singers are there for these songs? waiting for answers...

as far as playing, yes..much better. I do not think he needs to be trading leads though...

the warfield show i just saw was probably the best phil show i have seen in more than a decade.

Looks like you will be getting a lot more Grahame going forward. Give him some support as his musicianship continues getting better with experience, or don't go to the show. You are always free to stop paying attention to what Phil is doing in his Golden Years playing with his son and friends. It's not on Phil, it's on you.

Love seeing how far Graham has come and feel that he has been instrumental in bringing along some amazing new younger Phriends to the scene. And Phil most likely wouldn’t be playing events like he is without Graham by his side.
Graham has the Dead's mystical DNA and when onstage this provides a genuine heartfelt intangible as well.

^ Not to say that he wouldn't under other circumstances without Graham, but it really seems like Stanley Jordan has been "adopted" by the family.

I think this touches upon a central key point as it relates to music vs almost all other circumstances that have a business component.  With music (especially GD style), there exists an intangible core connection that goes well beyond a simple transactional "market".  Family bands are as old as time for a reason.  This is not to say some families aren't more concerned with the business aspect than others.  I could be wrong, but don't sense that this is the driving force.

Personally, I view anything Phil does at this stage of his life as "gravy" and am open to whatever choices he makes.  This is not to say it doesn't affect how far I'll drive, how much I'll pay, or how many shows I'll see for any given lineup.

lucas nelson can actually sing and play.

I was actually somewhat impressed with GL's playing and harmony singing last summer - lead vocals still a work in progress.

Rumors that Micah Nelson (Particle Kid) will be touring as Crazy Horse's 2nd guitarist, once Neil announces some shows.  Nils Lofgren is booked with Springsteen for the next couple of years and Poncho is still retired.

I agree with good Furious E. Particle Kid is great. He usually tours in Neil Young's band and has his own band as well.

Whether it was or wasn't a form of nepotism, I would rather see Graham front for Phil than anything Bobby has put together.

At this point, neither of them seems to be able to find a decent fake Jerry, but at least Phil and Molo are still Phil and Molo.
