weed shop advice needed

I'm going to one for the first time today. I don't use ganja and haven't in many years so have no clue what to expect. I'm bringing a contribution to a get together this weekend . What should I look for or stay away from? Gonna prob try to buy a 1/4 oz if they sell it like that...I won't be using it but want to make it worth it for the hosts

I suppose you'll need to
I suppose you'll need to decide whether you want sativa (lighter high, good with coffee, etc), vs indica (much deeper high, good with dessert), vs CBD (doesn't get you high, but good for what ails ya).
Next, what are the THC percentages (is it really strong, say in the 30% range, or weak, say the %teens)
Finally, smell / taste... folks can be rather particular this way, but have a smell and see what strikes your fancy. Our dispensary always has sales (oz's, quarters, etc), so I usually go w/ the highest percentage items with the smell / look I like the most!

Yeah it's complicated now. Not sure if you drink but you could end up bringing a nice bottle of bourbon to someone who only drinks wine. You really need more to go on. The friends I know who indulge the most don't smoke any bud. They vape, eat edibles, or do the whole complicated blow torch thing. Then there is the Indica/Sativa/Hybrid thing. I only smoke Indica or a hybrid that is heavily weighted toward Indica. If someone gave me a quarter of sativa I would thank them and re-gift.

just get whatever smells the most like gasoline and you will probably be pretty safe. TBH i dont even know how i would explain how to find the best weed to someone who hasnt smoked in 30+ years aside from that. assuming you can smell the buds, youre basically looking for as little earthy, hay, incense, cut grass or herbal/leafy smells as possible, with as much solventy gasoline smell as possible.

The old stuff is always on deep discount.
But hey I'm in a state that reportedly has a 7 year backlog of harvest... so hard used to appear in the front porch when I had a porch.
The only time I go is when I want to find the Blue Dream strain, my fav.

I haven't ever gone to a dispensary and haven't smoked in 4 years (my preferred way) but may have to go to one if I can't friends who have Blue Dream from their gardens. I'm with you, LLOLLO, it's my favorite, too.
Starting to check around. I have tincture I made from Blue Dream but I just don't love ingesting.
