NY&CH Cancel tour

And I hear he is out of Ohana too

Probably a wise move.  Besides getting over whatever ails them, the Summer tour they had planned would have put them through some extreme heat.  Hope some of these get rescheduled.

Maybe Neil is gonna hop on Outlaw and bail out Willie

I just hope they a all OK.

Something about a light breeze kibbling them.

This is the problem with geezer rock

Wonder if he has tour insurance?

Perhaps this is it for the Horse.

What a band. One of the purest examples of "what is rock and roll".

Or maybe they can giddy-up one final time at Farm Aid this year.

Yes, I suspect this is the end of th road for the Horse. What a ride it's been, but a shame they couldn't complete the tour and ride off into the sunset.

i live like a mile from the ohana thing, was gonna go this year as the crazy horse day had a pretty good lineup. peace to the horse.

I'll be surprised if he ever tours again tbh

Why's that?

I could just personality wise see this being it for him...He was one of the last to come back from Covid shutdown, sorta surprised he eventually did(thought he'd go full Grisman). and honestly I'd venture this has to be a bit more than a "couple of the guys getting sick" for canceling ahead 90 days. Couldn't have been an easy call. Bet it's one offs and mini stands from here out. But like I said, I was surprised he came back out at all

This is obviously a more serious situation than one or two guys getting sick. It's a major financial issue for a band to cancel a single show, let alone an entire tour, so either someone is REALLY sick or just doesn't have the juice to continue performing on a full tour.

Billy Talbot is 80 and has dealt with serious health issues in the past, it could be that for whatever reason he just couldn't carry on.

I mentioned in the other Neil thread that it was notable that Ralph Molina was playing with a type of brushes, not drumsticks, which has to be for a physical reason. He just turned 81 last week, and while from the videos I've watched from this tour I thought he looked good enough physically, his playing with brushes was very noticeable musically and to my ear wasn't working.

Maybe he looked at Neil and said I just can't do it, or maybe it wasn't working to Neil's ear either. Despite his laid back hippie persona, Neil is a stubborn taskmaster with his bands who demands that the sound is working just exactly the way he wants it, and he's well-known for walking away when it isn't.

As a fan it's hard to imagine a band called Crazy Horse without Billy and/or Ralph, and maybe Neil feels the same way, but canceling a full tour is a huge money hit, especially once it's started, and when the talent is doing the canceling it's the talent that takes the hit, so unless it's Neil who is sick or just can't physically carry on I'm very surprised that he wouldn't just bring in others to finish the tour, something he's done in the past.

As for Neil retiring from the road, unless it's him that's struggling I don't agree with that at all. Neil has always loved to perform and his skills are still there. Maybe more importantly, Neil also loves his coin, and for musicians in the 21st century the real money is made on the road, so if he's healthy and wants to rock I fully expect him to form another band as he has so often in the past, or more likely he'll just do more solo tours, which are much easier to coordinate and manage, and are also much more profitable.

Ultimately, whatever the real reason/s, this is a certainly a serious situation and a sad announcement. For me personally, at their advanced ages I give them credit for trying but I wasn't going to go out of my way to see this version of the band, and if Crazy Horse is truly finished, and it sure looks like it is, I'm satisfied that I experienced Neil Young & Crazy Horse at their best and in full measure, with many memorable, unique and even legendary experiences.

Time and people come and go, but rock 'n roll will never die.

I didn't check every venue, but some were not selling well, including Texas, The Gorge, and Utah. Might have had a hand in his decision. If this is indeed a postponement, and Neil will only play outdoors, then if / when the tour resumes, he will either play cities where it isn't too cold at night in the fall, or wait until spring / summer 2025, perhaps booking smaller venues in some cases.

Low-selling shows have very little impact on the artists. They get paid no matter what the ticket sales are so the artists virtually NEVER cancel because of ticket sales. It's the promoter that takes it on the chin if sales are bad, but would a monster like Live Nation cancel an entire tour? That's doubtful, as they still make money 19 different ways even if shows lose money at the gate.

Sales would have to be epically bad across the board for them to pull the plug on a full tour. I wasn't paying any attention to ticket sales on this, were the shows selling THAT bad? For an operation like LN it's usually still better for them to carry on rather than cancel a full tour and negotiate a settlement with the artist.

But if that's what actually happened it makes sense that they wouldn't announce it that way as that makes everybody look bad, but my dime says either Billy and/or Ralph can't carry on and Neil doesn't want to replace them under the name Crazy Horse, Neil himself can't carry on, or for whatever reason Neil isn't happy and doesn't want to carry on.

(Or maybe Neil's wife - the "poisonous predator" - just wants him at home?)

I had just checked the Gorge sales a few days ago, and it looked like most of the pavilion had sold out.  I figured between the positive reports from the tour's first leg, and the lure of the Gorge as a destination location to see NY&CH, they were selling much better.

A customer this week randomly told me that Neil recently bought some property out on the Olympic Peninsula.  Hope that leads to more local shows.  Hopefully, there will be more.  Their statement makes it sound like they would like to reschedule some of these, which makes whatever the health issue is sound fixable.

Feeling lucky to have caught the show I did.   only so many opportunities left.

Having watched a bunch of videos  if I had to guess it was Billty Talbot that looked the most frail. After the first video i was wondering of he could do an entire tour.

Anyone received their refund yet?

I had four pavilion seats and premier parking for the Gorge show at around $600.

Still waiting.

I haven't been refunded for the Bend show yet.

I believe the No one did shit this past week doctrine applies.  Y'all are looking at Thursday or so for refundssmiley

I received a refund. I contacted Ticketmaster (night before the cancelation , weird in hindsight) for a refund.  I got in an argument with customer service about a refund because they wanted me to resale. They said i would be contacted in four hours.

Four hours i got the refund.  Next morning tour was canceled.

guess he just woke up one day and said I don't feel like it anymore

theater tour coming with Micah?

I'm glad to have caught one of the final CH shows. My fave show of the year thus far.

That being said, it sounds like there was really nothing preventing him from finishing the remainder of the booked shows. Pretty lame.

And the theater thing reminds me of the "only outdoor gigs from now on" thing from a couple years ago

Sounds to me like Neil felt Billy and Ralph weren't keeping up and wants a younger rhythm section.....that said the willingness to play theaters is a surprise, but fewer people = easy sell out at higher prices.

East Coast, Mich, Ohio.....  buckle up

swing state tour? LOL

Ween has canceled the rest of their too as well

The explanation was classic Neil Young "woke up and listened to my body say 'I can't do this anymore'

Reminds me of his 'muse' stories when he would drop anything and everything including session work to go follow her instead.

Ween sounds like they may be done.  Always figured it would be Gene, not Deaner to meltdown.

As far as Neil, it sounds like he got a light case of COVID, and either Billy or Ralph got it worse.  Maybe the old dudes should follow the Stones touring model, and take 3-4 days off between shows?

I was about to comment in more detail on this but then I noticed that I already did when this thread started in June, and what I said then is what I believe is accurate now...

I don't believe the tour cancellation had anything to do with someone getting sick; I think that either Billy or Ralph said they just couldn't carry on, or the tour/the band just wasn't working for Neil (which is really what it sounds like) and when something isn't working for that guy he walks away, ramifications be damned.

Whatever the reasons, I think at this point it's safe to say.....

RIP Neil Young & Crazy Horse

On it goes.

Modern say 'Eat a peach' letter to my way of thinking, Neil set a precedent for this a long time ago. It's just who's he's always been, we all know that.

Some questionable quotes about him (and another band member) feeling almost "back" but I'm thinking he has to use the illness thing for legal reasons and that was the reason for that quote and the whole illness thing in the first place. Just a guess.

I was telling everyone to catch these shows because of how gigantically fun and exciting that tour opener was, such a shame people weren't able to.

Long live The Horse!

I didn't see a show and didn't plan to, a bit of travel and I've seen CH more than I've seen Neil without so wasn't left high n dry. Quite honestly I know people enjoyed what they saw(as I'm sure I would have)but what I've watched and heard of it, it sounds uninspired and not all that interesting. The idea of a POTR backing sounds much more interesting to me tbh

Small theaters sound good too. Come on back to Bakersfield, Neil.

One way or another Neil needs to keep playing live, if for no other reason than it brings mr felina to the black screen.

Good thinking, Lance.

:) Lance and Judit.

Hey fish! Yeah, well, youtube...yes there's that.

Speaking of Mr Lance, I'm going to use his most famous quote here: "Go to the show!"

It's really the only way. By oceans and oceans...it's the only way.

Bring on POTR agreed. Although not sure why Lukas wouldn't be a part of that seeing as how he's the best part of that. I'm not up on that band's doings though.

Long live Neil and long live the Zone!!

I agree to some extent but I also think attendance and recency biases do come in to play when I've attended and it's often easier for me to be objective listening to shows i didn't attend. So while it never will match the experience, I am just listening in comparison to other recent CH years, some attended, some not... there were moments where it hit a home run but plenty of aimless uninspired playing also where I say "I see why he gave up" I'm looking forward to the Fall announcements, hopefully a show or two(I'll at the very least be at Farm Aid)

Doesn't mike edwards live near lake hughes?

i'd be buying a ticket to that

That's about 30 minutes from me. No talent announced yet, but Neil played there 5 years ago and they're calling this one Harvest Moon and it's a Bridge School benefit, so yeah. Tickets go on sale next Thursday, September 5th.

Excellent

enjoy that

I'd wager this is the band Neill will have at Farm Aid

> enjoy that

Maybe. As I recall, GA tix were ridiculously expensive when he played there 5 years ago. We'll see what they're asking Thursday.
