Yes, I suspect this is the end of th road for the Horse. What a ride it's been, but a shame they couldn't complete the tour and ride off into the sunset.
I could just personality wise see this being it for him...He was one of the last to come back from Covid shutdown, sorta surprised he eventually did(thought he'd go full Grisman). and honestly I'd venture this has to be a bit more than a "couple of the guys getting sick" for canceling ahead 90 days. Couldn't have been an easy call. Bet it's one offs and mini stands from here out. But like I said, I was surprised he came back out at all
This is obviously a more serious situation than one or two guys getting sick. It's a major financial issue for a band to cancel a single show, let alone an entire tour, so either someone is REALLY sick or just doesn't have the juice to continue performing on a full tour.
Billy Talbot is 80 and has dealt with serious health issues in the past, it could be that for whatever reason he just couldn't carry on.
I mentioned in the other Neil thread that it was notable that Ralph Molina was playing with a type of brushes, not drumsticks, which has to be for a physical reason. He just turned 81 last week, and while from the videos I've watched from this tour I thought he looked good enough physically, his playing with brushes was very noticeable musically and to my ear wasn't working.
Maybe he looked at Neil and said I just can't do it, or maybe it wasn't working to Neil's ear either. Despite his laid back hippie persona, Neil is a stubborn taskmaster with his bands who demands that the sound is working just exactly the way he wants it, and he's well-known for walking away when it isn't.
As a fan it's hard to imagine a band called Crazy Horse without Billy and/or Ralph, and maybe Neil feels the same way, but canceling a full tour is a huge money hit, especially once it's started, and when the talent is doing the canceling it's the talent that takes the hit, so unless it's Neil who is sick or just can't physically carry on I'm very surprised that he wouldn't just bring in others to finish the tour, something he's done in the past.
As for Neil retiring from the road, unless it's him that's struggling I don't agree with that at all. Neil has always loved to perform and his skills are still there. Maybe more importantly, Neil also loves his coin, and for musicians in the 21st century the real money is made on the road, so if he's healthy and wants to rock I fully expect him to form another band as he has so often in the past, or more likely he'll just do more solo tours, which are much easier to coordinate and manage, and are also much more profitable.
Ultimately, whatever the real reason/s, this is a certainly a serious situation and a sad announcement. For me personally, at their advanced ages I give them credit for trying but I wasn't going to go out of my way to see this version of the band, and if Crazy Horse is truly finished, and it sure looks like it is, I'm satisfied that I experienced Neil Young & Crazy Horse at their best and in full measure, with many memorable, unique and even legendary experiences.
Time and people come and go, but rock 'n roll will never die.

If this is indeed a postponement, and Neil will only play outdoors, then if / when the tour resumes, he will either play cities where it isn't too cold at night in the fall, or wait until spring / summer 2025, perhaps booking smaller venues in some cases.
Low-selling shows have very little impact on the artists. They get paid no matter what the ticket sales are so the artists virtually NEVER cancel because of ticket sales. It's the promoter that takes it on the chin if sales are bad, but would a monster like Live Nation cancel an entire tour? That's doubtful, as they still make money 19 different ways even if shows lose money at the gate.
Sales would have to be epically bad across the board for them to pull the plug on a full tour. I wasn't paying any attention to ticket sales on this, were the shows selling THAT bad? For an operation like LN it's usually still better for them to carry on rather than cancel a full tour and negotiate a settlement with the artist.
But if that's what actually happened it makes sense that they wouldn't announce it that way as that makes everybody look bad, but my dime says either Billy and/or Ralph can't carry on and Neil doesn't want to replace them under the name Crazy Horse, Neil himself can't carry on, or for whatever reason Neil isn't happy and doesn't want to carry on.

A customer this week randomly told me that Neil recently bought some property out on the Olympic Peninsula. Hope that leads to more local shows. Hopefully, there will be more. Their statement makes it sound like they would like to reschedule some of these, which makes whatever the health issue is sound fixable.

I received a refund. I contacted Ticketmaster (night before the cancelation , weird in hindsight) for a refund. I got in an argument with customer service about a refund because they wanted me to resale. They said i would be contacted in four hours.
Four hours i got the refund. Next morning tour was canceled.
Sounds to me like Neil felt Billy and Ralph weren't keeping up and wants a younger rhythm section.....that said the willingness to play theaters is a surprise, but fewer people = easy sell out at higher prices.

I agree to some extent but I also think attendance and recency biases do come in to play when I've attended and it's often easier for me to be objective listening to shows i didn't attend. So while it never will match the experience, I am just listening in comparison to other recent CH years, some attended, some not... there were moments where it hit a home run but plenty of aimless uninspired playing also where I say "I see why he gave up" I'm looking forward to the Fall announcements, hopefully a show or two(I'll at the very least be at Farm Aid)
