Tom Lehrer, the popular and erudite song satirist who lampooned marriage, politics, racism and the Cold War, then largely abandoned his music career to return to teaching math at Harvard and other universities, has died. He was 97.
I remember him from my youth. I might even have an album of his.
He wrote some unusual song...

He was singing songs about dealing weed in 1951, which outside of the Jazz world, was basically unheard of.
I particularly like his song "National Brotherhood Week".

"That Was The Year That Was"
"That Was The Year That Was" a foundational record I listened to as a kid. My friend and I found it hilariously funny and laughed and laughed, even though we were too young to get many of the jokes.
Contained to enjoy that and Tom Lehrer's other records through the years, and he did his bit and walked away from show business.
97 is a long run.
Thanks Mr. Lehrer.
