RIP Tom Lehrer

Forums:

Tom Lehrer, the popular and erudite song satirist who lampooned marriage, politics, racism and the Cold War, then largely abandoned his music career to return to teaching math at Harvard and other universities, has died. He was 97.

I remember him from my youth. I might even have an album of his.

He wrote some unusual song...

The Vatican Rag (A longtime favorite)

I was introduced to Lehrer's work on the old Doctor Demento radio show. Good stuff.

RIP Tom Lehrer.

A musical hero

Genius! I've been covering his music since I was a kid.
Here is all his music, which he released to public domain in 2007.

We Will All Go Together When We Go? Guess not. RIP TL

He was singing songs about dealing weed in 1951, which outside of the Jazz world, was basically unheard of.

I particularly like his song "National Brotherhood Week".
