That winery show looks tempting but Saturday in sf even more so.

SF for me...

Winery is pretty much in my back yard, but I've stopped going to shows there... noise restrictions (due to whiny neighbors), curfew, way overpriced shitty packed in folding chairs on the floor, or more affordable crappy bleachers in back or on sides.

SF and Winery for me, possibly Seattle. Agree about the Winery, but its my back yard and has seen some amazing shows there.

Thanks for posting this, Rochester on June 30 looks good for me!

Awesome!  SF and Winery for me.  Will be interesting to see how the noise restrictions works out with four drummers

20th row center for the Count Basie show here. Tix came in the mail last night.

Thanks for the thread Dan!

Scored one of the last 3 single tickets for Rochester. Viva la Zone!

Looks like Red Bank for us.

Water boy, we should plan to pre-game before the winery show if we get tickets.

Yes, for sure Dan!  And there's no "IF we get tickets" about it!

DGM has VIP tickets available for Saratoga.  No word about the Warfield that I could find.

Nothing northeast of central NJ?  That sucks . . .

I would expect more US tour dates in the fall. Wouldn't want to guess where though.

Hall, when is the last time you were at the Winery?

They redesigned that place a long time ago. It doesn't have the folding chairs or the side bleachers anymore.

Noise restrictions are still in place, but the (not so) new concrete venue design & steeper rake hold the sound better and brighter, especially if you're in the front sections. GA is straight back and way up in the clouds now (not even shown in that photo) and is pretty much worthless, but overall the venue presents a show better than it used to.

Still, the Warfield will be a better venue for this show for sure.

it's true, I haven't been there for a long time, and while it looks improved (compared to the old setup), the prices I've seen from time to time for those front sections you speak of are usually either WAY overpriced (especially compared to places like the Warfield), and/or are sold out instantly and put on the secondary market sites for even bigger $$.

And while I can certainly custie up with the best of 'em, I like do it when I can be reasonably assured of getting an extremely kick ass performance (which, for me, includes pumping volume if it's rock and roll).

Also, the last few times I was there, the crowd was some of the worst kind for seeing a show with... rich, entitled, VIP type, keep your meat in your seat, don't smoke weed (do smoke cigars!)...

And then there's the clusterfuck of getting in and out of that place (and I'm betting they still patrol the lot heavily).

so given the choice, I will drive 10 times as far to the good 'ole Warfield any day.  (damn happy I have the choice this time).

That winery venue looks nice, has the sf venue been announced yet?

I checked my local (Count Basie Red Bank) and they had decent enough seats.

Still a little too spendy for me, a few months of Primo Dog Food.

It is a lovely Venue, not all that far.  Last show there was David Byrne, some years back.

Those tixx were only 30-35 bucks compared to the ca. 100 buxx for KC.

Yeah Stu, as I said in another KC thread, if it wasn't for my tax return I'm not sure I would have shelled out the $115 per, but couldn't resist.

I've seen David Byrne there a couple times, so it's likely I was at that show. I went one time with my buddy & his sister who's about the biggest David Byrne fan you could meet. We got to hang w/ him after the show & she was completely tongue tied. It was a riot. He was a really nice guy too.

Good stuff, chuck.

what year was the Byrne show y'all r talking bout?

>>>> I like do it when I can be reasonably assured of getting an extremely kick ass performance

I think you can be reasonably assured in this case.  Crimson's never not been a kick ass performance.  The last Warfield show was terrifying.

The last time I saw him there was I believe 2008 or so E. The previous time was in the late '90's.

A band like King Crimson isn't the same as Lynyrd Skynyrd when it comes to a satisfying volume level.

I agree about the Winery in general but the sound is very clean there and I think that will be a solid venue for a KC show.

I'm not going to be able to go to either of the BA dates, but I would go to the Saratoga show if I was available that night.

And everyone will have their meat in their seats at the Warfield or anywhere else the show will be. If it's at the Warfield I'd assume they'd put reserved seats on the floor.

Probably meatin' that seat everywhere they play; fripp don't stand and neither do the audience.

hall, we should probably get seats together so I don't disturb the person sitting next to me with all my seated head bangin as much.

Maybe we'll actually b able to see fripp this time from our seats.

chuck, was that 2008 Byrne show the 'everything that happens will happen today' tour with the back up dancers?

i love that album!

and I concur with Dave; this KC line up is frightening in person.

Good call E! That was definitely the one. I remember when he announced the tour to promote the album I was hoping Brian Eno would tour with him because I had never seen him before, but it didn't happen. The back up dancers were amazing.

No question these will all be meat in the seats shows. The last time I saw KC was at the Best Buy in Times Square. The only time I've been there when they had seats on the floor.

Thought this thread could use a video or 2. First up my personal favorite lineup- fripp, belew, bruford & levin. Never got to see this lineup   Larks Tongues in Aspic Pt 2

This is the first lineup I saw the double trio with everybody above plus pat mastellato on drums & percussion & trey gunn on War Guitar. Sweet Red here

I read somewhere that the Bay Area show is at the Fox Theatre not the Warfield.

That's a serious shame.

The Fox is cavernous and boomy.

Just snagged two very nicely positioned seats for DenverBellco Theatre - Ticketing System-page-002.jpg :)

Apples & Oranges, but some buddies went to the Princeton - Harvard basketball game last night at Jadwin Gym.

I saw the tixx - Ten bucks !! I could not believe it. Of course, there's a good chance that they are heavilly subsidized with Princeton's trillion dollar endowment.

humphries...

saratoga venue looks cool. i like the design.

So, I read that there will be FOUR drummers this time around. Bill Rieflin is back. Bill and Jeremy Stacey will both be splitting time on drums and keyboards.

Will the fox b standing GA floor?

that'd b the one silver lining of them not playing the warfield

Saw them on their last US tour at The Egg in Albany, NY. Was actually my first time ever.

Off the charts tremendous.

Very different as those in the know know.

Four drummers, all in a row at the FRONT of the stage. Levin, Fripp, a horn player and 2nd guitarist/vocalist all in a row behind the drummers.

All shows are precise, well rehearsed. This is not improv. Sound is fantastic.

They make a big announcement pre-show about no recording of any kind and labor on about no cell phone use of any kind. At this show at least, it was strictly enforced.

It was also a big "sit down" show. I struggle with that and ended up in the very back against the wall standing and grooving. Can't do the Rochester Jazz Fest show, and am hoping they come back around in the Fall.

I saw the Adrian Belew Power Trio last night and they played a nice smattering of King Crimson tunes throughout the evening. Adrian is the happiest person in the world and I think he had a better time last night than anyone else who was there.

E, I'd be pretty surprised if the floor at the Fox Oakland show will be open GA standing.

They put seats down there often enough, and I'd guess they will for this show.

But I don't think they put seats on the back tier where the bars are so if you must you will likely have a place to stand and groove, but the sound isn't great there.

On the other hand, they're not usually particularly tight on folks roaming around that venue, and I almost always find myself up in the balcony where the sound is usually better. I either find an open seat or stand in one of the side isles against the wall.

>>>They make a big announcement pre-show about no recording of any kind and labor on about no cell phone use of any kind. At this show at least, it was strictly enforced.

Def. happened at every KC/Robert Fripp show I've seen. Fripp is notorious about it. The first time I saw Crimson @ the Count Basie, the theatre staff spent most of the evening walking the aisles looking for folks with any electronic equipment.

I always thought that one thing no one can accuse Fripp of is wanting to be the center of attention. It seems like he's always off to the side & in some cases behind the rest of the band. It's almost like he doesn't want to be seen.

On a different note, anyone see any of the Soundscapes shows that Fripp did with the League of Crafty Guitarists as the opener some years back? I saw them at Club Bene in South Amboy, NJ. They did a thing where they walked around the place as they were playing & Fripp ended up right behind me. A fun time.

Chuck, were you at the McCarter Theater in "83 for Frippertronics?

Robert gave a lecture/demonstration of his technique that was quite entertaining.

Thanks for the link there, Good Gunnar.

That is a different show from what he played on Saturday. Good to see he mixes up the setlist.

Voodoo, no. Unfortunately it was just before my time. I was into Crimson by that time but only shows I had been to were GD & Elvis at the Spectrum in '76 when i was just 7. Me & mom still crack up about that one

Presale begins Thursday, March 9th at 10am
(password = court)

The general on sale begins Friday, March 10th at 10am.

Damn, that's pricey.

Maybe a couple less drummers and take $50 off those prices.

Nah, the drummers aren't making anything.

Have fun kids.

Fox?   was hoping for the Warfield again... oh well.

Top price level in Denver was $75 other than the first five rows for VIP etc.

The Bay Area gets all the high prices.

http://apeconcerts.com/events/king-crimson/

They have updated the presale password on this page to "haley".  I don't know if "court" will work or not.

Definitely seats on the floor.

Buying tix is stressful. I scored a great pair for the Fox, front row mezz, two center-most seats (F102,104). The website was giving me nothing, but the app kept giving me better and better seats until these showed up. Its hard not to take something good enough and was glad I kept trying. Next up will be for the Mountain Winery which shouldn't be as hard...wine and cheese don't go well with the acid crowd.

>>>wine and cheese don't go well with the acid crowd<<<

I don't know, there are a lot of nerds in Silicon Valley.

Snagged one in the 2nd level orch of the fox, spent way too much $, but still at least $30 less than one of those pit tix that were going for over $165 after fees.

i just couldn't bring myself to spend that much.

>>>>>I don't know, there are a lot of nerds in Silicon Valley

A lot of nerds who would like nothing better than to see Crimson under the stars!

I think Mountain Winery will be a hard ticket, at least for decent seats, but its possible that word doesnt get out right away about the onsale.

I was able to get orchestra pit for the Fox but it took a while.  Came up with nothing for 15 minutes, and then tickets started showing up

>>>I don't know, there are a lot of nerds in Silicon Valley.

>>>A lot of nerds who would like nothing better than to see Crimson under the stars!

Count me in that list of nerds, but I still think it will be easy to get into the venue for bleacher tix at least. So many great shows there under the stars. For Jason Isbell, a huge owl flew out of the building right over the top of the audience, so cool!

Count Basie Theatre just added a second show on Monday July 10th, went on sale today.

Would love to catch one of these somewhere. Who will be in the band? Ah nevermind...

Just ordered tickets for the Moore Theatre in Seattle,  saw them there last time they were out west, was incredible!  Wish they'd play Portland.  Tickets to the general public go on sale this friday at 10am for the Seattle show.

>>>Count Basie Theatre just added a second show on Monday July 10th, went on sale today.

Yeah, I would have preferred the Saturday show myself, but no big deal.

2nd Oakland Fox theater show added, Friday 6/26.

Presale tomorrow (Thursday) 10am password = haley.

thanks Dave!

Personally happy that I got the Saturday Fox show first. That Friday night is Bokanté at SFJazz, the new Michael League band which was amazing last month at the GroundUp Music Festival in Miami.  https://youtu.be/X-DoGgMTfiY

Dan, thanks for catching my typo!

>>> Count Basie Theatre just added a second show on Monday July 10th, went on sale today.>>>

Thanks for the post, Jerry! Good news! By adding  7/10/17, a Monday, that should soften the market a bit...Monday it is for me, show up & get a $60 or $80 ticket on the sidewalk, I hope!!!
