Hall, when is the last time
Hall, when is the last time you were at the Winery?
They redesigned that place a long time ago. It doesn't have the folding chairs or the side bleachers anymore.
Noise restrictions are still in place, but the (not so) new concrete venue design & steeper rake hold the sound better and brighter, especially if you're in the front sections. GA is straight back and way up in the clouds now (not even shown in that photo) and is pretty much worthless, but overall the venue presents a show better than it used to.
Still, the Warfield will be a better venue for this show for sure.

it's true, I haven't been
it's true, I haven't been there for a long time, and while it looks improved (compared to the old setup), the prices I've seen from time to time for those front sections you speak of are usually either WAY overpriced (especially compared to places like the Warfield), and/or are sold out instantly and put on the secondary market sites for even bigger $$.
And while I can certainly custie up with the best of 'em, I like do it when I can be reasonably assured of getting an extremely kick ass performance (which, for me, includes pumping volume if it's rock and roll).
Also, the last few times I was there, the crowd was some of the worst kind for seeing a show with... rich, entitled, VIP type, keep your meat in your seat, don't smoke weed (do smoke cigars!)...
And then there's the clusterfuck of getting in and out of that place (and I'm betting they still patrol the lot heavily).
so given the choice, I will drive 10 times as far to the good 'ole Warfield any day. (damn happy I have the choice this time).

A band like King Crimson isn't the same as Lynyrd Skynyrd when it comes to a satisfying volume level.
I agree about the Winery in general but the sound is very clean there and I think that will be a solid venue for a KC show.
I'm not going to be able to go to either of the BA dates, but I would go to the Saratoga show if I was available that night.
And everyone will have their meat in their seats at the Warfield or anywhere else the show will be. If it's at the Warfield I'd assume they'd put reserved seats on the floor.

Saw them on their last US tour at The Egg in Albany, NY. Was actually my first time ever.
Off the charts tremendous.
Very different as those in the know know.
Four drummers, all in a row at the FRONT of the stage. Levin, Fripp, a horn player and 2nd guitarist/vocalist all in a row behind the drummers.
All shows are precise, well rehearsed. This is not improv. Sound is fantastic.
They make a big announcement pre-show about no recording of any kind and labor on about no cell phone use of any kind. At this show at least, it was strictly enforced.
It was also a big "sit down" show. I struggle with that and ended up in the very back against the wall standing and grooving. Can't do the Rochester Jazz Fest show, and am hoping they come back around in the Fall.

E, I'd be pretty surprised if the floor at the Fox Oakland show will be open GA standing.
They put seats down there often enough, and I'd guess they will for this show.
But I don't think they put seats on the back tier where the bars are so if you must you will likely have a place to stand and groove, but the sound isn't great there.
On the other hand, they're not usually particularly tight on folks roaming around that venue, and I almost always find myself up in the balcony where the sound is usually better. I either find an open seat or stand in one of the side isles against the wall.

Def. happened at every KC/Robert Fripp show I've seen. Fripp is notorious about it. The first time I saw Crimson @ the Count Basie, the theatre staff spent most of the evening walking the aisles looking for folks with any electronic equipment.
I always thought that one thing no one can accuse Fripp of is wanting to be the center of attention. It seems like he's always off to the side & in some cases behind the rest of the band. It's almost like he doesn't want to be seen.
On a different note, anyone see any of the Soundscapes shows that Fripp did with the League of Crafty Guitarists as the opener some years back? I saw them at Club Bene in South Amboy, NJ. They did a thing where they walked around the place as they were playing & Fripp ended up right behind me. A fun time.
