I see and hear commercials almost daily for the shows in my area. Every Red Sox game I check in on has ads for Dead & Co. at Fenway. Are tickets sales really that bad?
After all the shows they did last year, it's really no surprise that demand is less this go around. Regardless of how well they play, or not, it's not like they have anything new to offer. In reality, all Live Nation cares about is selling enough tickets to make a tidy profit...which they will. In some markets they do well and some not so well. As long as it all averages out to the tour being an overall money maker, the promoter and band will be happy.
As a side note, baseball stadiums usually have the highest percentage of seats that the sound is quite marginal. Fenway is probably the worst of the lot. Sure the place has a certain panache but it's old style does not lend itself to concerts. Citi Field is a little bit better but still not great in a lot of locations. If you caught a few shows last tour; would you go again with crappy seats?
I will never attend a concert in a stadium again for any reason. Some outdoor sheds are still reasonable on the right evening - but a concert in a mega sports stadium? No thank you.
>>> it's not like they have anything new to offer.
I concur. I enjoy seeing some GD music as much as the next person but I'm not going to overpay and have to deal with stadiums, large crowds and much more. There are too many better options out there.
However, if I was in town and there were super cheap seats. I'd consider.
Music aside, the Folsom shows last year were one of the best parties Boulder had seen in a really long time. I worked the shows so my perspective was a little different but I had a lot of fun on a social level and the half hour around drumz was a musical highlight.

I disagree Timmy. Many will play the justification game, I got a Group on deal or I got a ticket for 20 bucks ect..... I just find it all kind of ridiculous. I like the band and am looking forward to the shows I'm attending .
>>And are you "counting" the JGB show in '89 as a GD show, bucko?
i never saw a Garcia band show, so no I'm not counting that.
Is it OK if I say it's my 150th Grateful Dead PHAMLY show??? And it's not like I was seeing death metal or rap or widespread panic or shit like that, sheesh people. Bunch of Bobby haters.
The Grateful Dead's last show was July 9, 1995 anything you saw after like anything anyone saw after was NOT The Grateful Dead. It may have been fun and a show we all enjoyed like say 9/25/03 at The Warfield w The Q or 2/18/01 w The Q at The Maritime (best post Jerry show I've seen to date) or TOO in 1998 or TOO in Alpine in 2002 at Terrapin Station and many others but none of them were The Grateful Dead.
Interesting thread going here. I'll add where I'm at for fun.
I went to Citi Field last year & will say I was somewhat pleasantly surprised. I thought the music was very enjoyable & while for the most part I can't stand John Mayer, he was better than I expected. Lot scene was pretty damn cool that day too.
That being said, I agree that the prices are high for my taste & I'm not really up for a trip to Queens. 2 good friends were kind enough to give me a ticket for Camden. 8th row to the right. Not passing that up esp since it's free & I'm looking forward to it. Hoping my leg is sufficiently better by that time, but the van I'm going in is set up well & the girl has a handicap placard so I'm not too worried.
And I def look forward to seeing Bob & the drummers again. Just my 2 cents fwiw.
>>And are you "counting" the JGB show in '89 as a GD show, bucko?

Just looked it up ... 9/15/89 was actually my first GD related show of any kind, drove in from Madison where I was going to school at the time. It was actually a double bill with Weir / Wasserman.
It's OK by me, I'm not a stickler and I kind of view the GD like a hologram; if it breaks apart, all the remaining pieces still contain information about the whole (from its vantage point). While I hope both Bobby & Phil are able to play for many years to come, the reality is "this space is getting hot" ... and once it's over, it's over ... there are some things you can replace and others you can not.
I was just walking our dog and heard a neighbor sitting on his porch strumming his guitar and singing. I told the young college student that it was a nice tune. "It's John Mayer, he's my favorite musician." I mentioned Dead and Company at Shoreline. He said that he's listened to many of the Dead and Company songs and really likes some of them, might go to the show if he can get a good seat up close to watch his idol. He was more impressed that I'd seen Dead and Company than the fact that I'd seen the Grateful Dead. Yeah, he knows who Jerry Garcia is, but just likes John Mayer more. Kids..
Depends what you mean by Sold Out? If you mean are tickets still available for face through the box office or ticketmaster proper the answer is yes lots of the shows are sold out... If you mean are all the tickets sold and are they hard to come by then no none of the shows are sold out. For the two shows I am watching it seems there are only premium seats through ticketmaster But tons of tickets on the secondary market. I'll wait and see . To me it looks like ticketmaster is back to it's old tricks pre Springsteen suit
Bunch a curmudgeons! Bobby Rules. No Bobby= no Grateful Dead= No Phil= No dead family shows since 1995.
I liked Dead n Co. enough to spend 20 or so on another show. I also liked the drums portion as it is the thing closest to original GD show. Just Mickey and Bill., if ya think about it.
Also- if a someone gets the spirit, they can call a shoe whatever they want, IMO. Cool your folks took you to Alpine Bucky. Think Ive seen Ratdog 20-30 times, once involving a go-go dancer. No regrets.
I doubt it will be hard to find tickets for the D n Co tour.

i never saw a Garcia band show, so no I'm not counting that.
Is it OK if I say it's my 150th Grateful Dead PHAMLY show??? And it's not like I was seeing death metal or rap or widespread panic or shit like that, sheesh people. Bunch of Bobby haters.

Yes, young Badger, you are learning the ways of the Zone. Very few here profess their love of Bobby. To do so, one must have very thick skin.

The Grateful Dead's last
The Grateful Dead's last show was July 9, 1995 anything you saw after like anything anyone saw after was NOT The Grateful Dead.

Interesting thread going here
Interesting thread going here.

I was just walking our dog
Kids..

Depends what you mean by Sold
Depends what you mean by Sold Out? If you mean are tickets still available for face through the box office or ticketmaster proper the answer is yes lots of the shows are sold out... If you mean are all the tickets sold and are they hard to come by then no none of the shows are sold out. For the two shows I am watching it seems there are only premium seats through ticketmaster But tons of tickets on the secondary market. I'll wait and see . To me it looks like ticketmaster is back to it's old tricks pre Springsteen suit

>> To be fair, Fenway's concert capacity is 38,000 and Citi Field's is 42,000. A lot of acts wouldn't sell that out.
Every single other show that's been at Fenway since they started having concerts has sold out, except for Dead & Co. And I do mean every single one...
Phish, Pearl Jam, McCartney, Tom Petty, James Taylor, Billy Joel, Roger Waters, Dave Matthews to name a few...

Bunch a curmudgeons!
