Monterey International Pop 50th anniversary festival

Lou Adler be damned, Another Planet usually does things right.

This could be good.

Or not.

But the venue really is pretty cool.

And pretty much exactly the same as it was 50 years ago.

Ghosts in that place for sure.

It was a lot of fun when Bob and Phil played there a few years back.

(((FURTHUR)))

"is widely recognized as the first major American rock festival and the event that galvanized the Summer of Love scene."

ie, was one of the catalysts responsible for the influx of hoards into the Haight-Ashbury that resulted in the destruction of a good scene.

Would it have been better for the world if the 1966 SF scene had remained a local phenomenon?

Jeezus Thom, it was a key link in the chain.

Or do you hate the whole widespread liberating effect on society part?

Slumber Party at DFlo's house!

I hear there's a Salvador Dali museum in Monterey; might be great to spend a little time there.

Aside from the LA-style giant Rock festival, I recall reading that the informal Jam sessions were awesome...

But nobody was carrying tape-decks at 2 AM. Everyone was just there to have a Funangel

>>Slumber Party at DFlo's house!<<

lol

We'll probably get a hotel room with a pool across the street from the fairgrounds if it amounts to anything worth going.

Y'all can come hang there though.

Partial line up.  Phil, Jackie,Jim James, Jack Johnson.  Could be fun

Phil being there makes me want to go.

I wonder what absurd prices the tickets will be...

Jack Johnson..Really?

It's the same weekend as Mountain jam. Different coasts but still in competition with each other.

No spot taken.

I'd be interested in seeing the schedule and potentially picking one day, if it's in my price range.

I would go for Eric Burden & Norah Jones if I lived near by. Mississippi All Stars too.

Jack Johnson is entertaining.

His crowd is like a sorority party.

I saw him at the Greek and enjoyed it.

Though a lot of his tunes sound the same he can entertain.

Lebo played steel guitar during a bunch of Jack's gig....

Hack Johnson & Snorah Jones lol

 >>>>>Jackie,Jim James, Jack Johnson

Makes me want to smoke a "jay".

I think Jack Johnson only has one song..

Depending on the exact schedule and the price/availability of single day tickets, I can actually see myself trying to attend some of this

Since I was already gonna go to Oakland on 6/17 for King Crimson anyway.

Love Eric- saw him in 99

but man he's getting old now....

single day ga tickets on sale now!

https://montereypopfestival50.com/tickets/

A mere $105 + fees General Admission on the Field Level Lawn!

YAWN!

I see that Phil and the family band are in on this cash grab.......no surprise

>>>which is expected to draw about 10,000 attendees per day

I'm not sure if that is low or high.

Festival is coming up this weekend. I'm surprised Jerry Miller Band is not part of this or the Summer Solstice show in SF? I see that he is performing in the area at Don Quixote's on 6/17, Biscuits & Blues on 6/18 and Poor House Bistro in San Jose on 6/23.

Embarrassing

why the fuck didn't my brother take me?

They offered me a vending spot.

$1450 plus insurance...

and it sounds like vendors will be placed down a corridor away from the main action.

had to pass.

That lineup that long live the dead posted looks pretty good, if I lived around there I'd definitely check it out even for $105

>>>>>> Georgia soul singer Leon Bridges got the juices flowing during his set to close out the festival’s first night

I hate to call this one out but he's the local pride of Dallas-Ft Worth. Not sure where they got the "Georgia" unless they were thinking of Otis..

Todd Michael "Leon" Bridges (born July 13, 1989) is an American gospel and soul singer and songwriter from Fort Worth, Texas wink

hedspace good to see you keeping a sharp eye and calling out inaccuracies in these music threads

I missed Friday in 1967, but was there Saturday and Sunday. What an experience!

Skipping it this time.

Wish i was there. Music finally comes to my town and i'm in Santa Barbara at #3 daughters UCSB graduation. Might make it back in time to jump the fence for Phil tomorrow night.

From what i hear the Hootenany at TXR is a better bet.

I hear it's glorious in Monterey this weekend. I bet it isn't that crowded, the venue and grounds are very cool and I'm sure APE did a nice job of setting it all up.

If it wasn't so expensive I'd take a cruise down the coast tomorrow, and I'm pretty sure once inside it would be fun and I'd be happy to be there, but $105 to get in and $50 to park is way too rich for me, so a friend and I are going to a groovy jazz show on the coast in Half Moon Bay tomorrow afternoon instead.

Nothing like beating the heat with cool sounds and those cool ocean breezes!

Yep

Nice plan, Lance.

I'll stay here at the pool and monitor.

What you talking bout Willis?

Anybody know the performance times for today (Sunday)??

Thx Zooey- smiley

Good news.

Wish there was a Video Stream !

Mission complete.

2 miracles.

Nice happy people.

Perfect weather.

Not crowded at all.

Saw some Zoners up front.

Phil looked happy.

Nice Wharf Rat and Jack Straw

Gary Clark Jr had some super powerful surreal moments.

3rd Rock From the Sun.

Stole the show.

i'd gladly see him again.

Wow Judit, you were at the first one!

I would like to see Gary Clark JR at Monterey playing 3rd Stone from the Sun in a big way. Picture that!

^^^

Im sure it will be on youtube eventually.

"you will never hear surf music again"

Judit, I knew you have cred, but attending the first Monterey Pop Festival is amazing! Got any personal tales or memories of the weekend?

Is it true Charles Bradley covered some Otis Redding?
