Better Call Saul

Forums:

Former President Donald Trump's five impeachment defense attorneys have left a little more than a week before his trial is set to begin, according to people familiar with the case, amid a disagreement over his legal strategy.

It was a dramatic development in the second impeachment trial for Trump, who has struggled to find lawyers willing to take his case. And now, with legal briefs due next week and a trial set to begin only days later, Trump is clinging to his election fraud charade and suddenly finds himself without legal representation.

damn... i thought this was about the show.

i'm just starting the 4th(?) season.

"Slipping Jimmy" wouldn't take this case...

I hope Trump appears on his own behalf and insists on testifying. He's not immune from prosecution anymore and anything he says can and will be used against him.

Yes, please!

I had read that the lawyers all quit because Trump wanted them to argue election fraud. Essentially try and defend Trump by arguing his part in inciting an insurrection was warranted as  he was just directing them to stop the steal.

it's quite possible Trump will show up and dig his own grave.

If only some ripped-off contractor had him do that in the 80s.

He wanted his lawyers to go with an affirmative defense that said the insurrection was justified because the election was stolen. That is what he will make his impeachment trial about. The spineless Republican Senators who still to this day think they can thread the needle will be faced with the choice of voting for Trump and for the big lie or voting for democracy. The cult leaders are never happy with anything less than 100% loyalty, and the next loyalty test will always be a one step further down the road toward insanity. Oh yeah and he also hadn't paid them.

Maybe they'll appoint a public defender for the fellow.

If he has no representation, can it hold up the trial? Just wondering if this is just another Trumpian ruse.

Just announced he's got a new legal team prepared to argue that impeaching a former President is unconstitutional

Orange Mussolini was impeached while prez over things he did while prez.

From NBC News:

"But there is historical precedent for impeaching and trying to convict a former federal officeholder.

In 1876, as the U.S. House of Representatives was about to vote on articles of impeachment against Secretary of War William Belknap over corruption charges, Belknap walked over to the White House, submitted his resignation letter to President Ulysses S. Grant and burst into tears.

The House still went ahead and impeached Belknap, and the Senate tried him, with the impeachment managers arguing that departing office doesn’t excuse the alleged offense — otherwise, officeholders would simply resign to escape conviction or impeachment.

And the Senate voted in 1876, by a 37-29 margin, that Belknap was eligible to be impeached and tried even though he resigned from office.

But Belknap was eventually acquitted, with the Senate failing to muster the two-thirds vote needed to convict. (A significant number of senators believed the Senate lacked jurisdiction to convict him because he no longer held office.)"

Help is on the way, Donny!!!

what a waste of time and resources.

only brunch liberals care.

^Really, he only incited a violent coup attempt. Why all the fuss?

Imagine committing felonies and all you have to do is quit your job to avoid prosecution

we all know trump is horrible.

but why stop there?

what about the 1 million innocent dead Iraqis? or they don't matter.

Chewbaca defense.jpg

Exactly... we should not stop there

>>>what about the 1 million innocent dead Iraqis? or they don't matter. <<<

It's not that they don't matter; it's that currently, they can't run for president again in 2024...

Is anyone with any sense of sanity doubting that our Executive Branch needs to be held to accountability standards? As Bss said, it's Trump's time for that.

If I remember correctly, a lot of Zoners, and Americans in general, wanted W to be held accountable for what he did. He knowingly lied to start a war, in which something like 600k Iraqis were directly killed by coalition forces, and another half million died as a result of the infrastructure being bombed back to the Stone Ages. His lies destabilized the entire region, making way for Syria.

If you can figure out what to do about that now, let me know.

Truth is the majority of " today's GOP" is just fine with Jan. 6.

you guys think trump will be held accountable?

the system protects its own.

I think that Trump and every president should be held accountable. I also think that it's doubtful that he, or most others, will be.

^great.

biden will have the trumps over for dinner in a couple years.

Ultimately? nope.

Merrick Garland has yet to receive a confirmation hearing, weeks after Joe Biden nominated him to be his attorney general.

And that’s due to a hiccup that has left the Senate judiciary committee under the control of the Republicans.

While the Democrats have the Senate majority, the Senate hasn’t passed a power-sharing deal, leaving Republicans still in control of committees. Incoming committee chair Dick Durbin, the Democratic whip from Illinois, accuses Lindsey Graham, who is still the chair of the judiciary committee, of delaying the hearing with no justification.

In a letter to Graham, Durbin wrote that delaying Garland’s confirmation “jeopardizes our national security” and that “there is simply no justification for delaying Judge Garland’s hearing any further”.

“He is a mainstream, consensus pick who should be confirmed swiftly both on his merits and because of the pressing need to respond to the 6 January insurrection and other national security risks,” Durbin wrote.

Go to about 4:30 Turts. You literally boiled a complex political issue into an incorrect soundbite.

Fact: Biden wants $2k checks and unemployment benefits extended until September.

Fact: Biden has stated that this new plan, by 10 Republicans, is unacceptable, and he doesn't want to hold up benefits for the needy.

Fact: Biden is between a rock and a hard place.

Turts, there's absolutely no need for you to be a condescending prick (here, this cute gal can esplain it bk...), especially when you are pretty much off base. You've watched a video, extrapolated what suited your POV, and then made judgments based on it. You're quite the armchair quarterback, aren't you?

Let's be fair. The guy has been president for less than 2 weeks. He inherited a literal shitshow. There's a year-long pandemic with no plan by his predecessor. The world is coming apart at the seams. There are Congresspeople who are literally batshit crazy and want to kill Democrats. The Republicans are cow-towing to those freaks, and won't even  it's on his cabinet picks.

Meanwhile, the guy seems to be busy as shit, trying to do good stuff (environment, $15 minimum wage, etc). And again, it hasn't even been 2 weeks and you're already putting him down for not doing what you want, when you want it.

Sereouseeley, what would you do and how exactly would you do it?

Stop sending campaign money.

Lindsey Graham - if witnesses are called it will open a Pandora's Box

is that a threat? Does he have tape on the baby eating Democrats? Or is he not wanting to be exposed along with a host of others?

Mr. Ex President - at what point of you, the commander in Chief, watching the actions at the capitol unfold, when our Democratic and Republican  representatives were under attack did you call for reinforcement to save them.

its fucking treason, let's not sugar coat this shit, he left our people on the battle field.

the corporate apologists are out today!

biden can push thru 2000$ check right now. FACT.

he won't.

>>>>>biden can push thru 2000$ check right now. FACT.

Please explain how this would be done.

^^you're an angry idiot.  Biden cannot push through anything,  he is not a dictator. They need all 50 Democrats to vote for the legislation, and that's if they use reconciliation.

Clueless, you are.

Better Call Saul>>>

The last season kinda sucked, IMO. There were some good episodes but they kinda got lost in trying to do too many episodes. I think if they had broken up this last season with 8 and 8 like BB it would have worked out better. If they are ever able to do season six everyone will be like 15 yrs older than they were when they filmed the first breaking bad. Not sure how well that will work out. I will still watch it but just seems like they were pretty thin on creative ideas at the end of that last season.

Yes better that they replaced it with a new show. This one might last 8 seasons unless the other networks can put together some decent competition

biden can't whip manchin? that's sad and hilarious.

these neoliberal fucks have 100+ years of combined service and can't get americans a one time ( !!! ) $2000 check w/ control of both chambers.

they have the corporate apologists spewing their bs for them.

lumber you're doing it perfectly.

he doesn't need one republican vote. we can have $2000 immediately.

he won't do it.

lumber, a neoliberal you are (you just haven't accepted it yet). sad.

<<<>>>environment, $15 minimum wage, etc).

$15min by 2025? that's not real life.

31 (at least) new drilling permits.

kids still in cages. ICE operating at free will.

but no yelling tweets from the pres on twitter, no name calling, no making fun of people -- all quiet again.

almost time to go back to brunch you fucks.

where's thod? he must be furious.

It's like a challenge each day to just come up with a post incorporating all the buzz words

^voted for W. stated that on this site.

^biden can't whip manchin? ^

They're trying, Manchin is resistant.

>can have $2000 immediately<

If reconciliation is used, the process will take several days, even weeks

>they have the corporate apologists spewing their bs for them<

Per usual,  you're the one spewing bullshit, mostly out of willful ignorance.

always funny and sad to see neolibs like lumber justify his corporate dems not doing anything they promised to help people during this pandemic.

but the republicans!

funny stuff. and all too predictable.

It's frustrating to read ignorant criticism spewed on a daily basis.

Your simple mind would really prefer a dictator.

^thats an awesome post.

3.8.

i get it, criticizing the dems makes neolibs like yourself frustrated.

you bring that on yourself.

Might last 8 seasons>>>

No, they already said the sixth season will be the last.

3.8?

No, I'm not melting, just pointing out your obvious ignorance.  It's frustrating to continually read your baseless criticism.

You seem to think that Biden has dictatorial powers, and can order Senators to vote a particular way. I think reflects your desire to have an authoritarian leader enact your preferred policies.

Obsessed with W but I guess it's all ya got

that's insane, lumber. but go for it.

back in reality, you keep apologizing for the corporate dems that don't want to help the american public.

you're a strange guy. you love neoliberalism, even tho it's very similar to gop conservative rule, which you say you despise.

you're conflicted.

^Not at all, Pyramid,  I just understand the legislative process and thus have realistic expectations. I understand that compromises will likely be made in order to secure the needed votes. And I understand that the President does not have the power to push through legislation, or the power to order any legislator to vote in a particular way.

you accept the neolibs bs excuses.

even people like mcconnell's you accept.

look where that logic has gotten us.

to a perfectly failed state.

>even people like mcconnell's you accept<

Provide an example please.

>you accept the neolibs bs excuses<

You mean like securing enough votes to pass legislation?

Or finding 60 votes in the Senate, to avoid a filibuster?

Again, you seem to think that all Democrats will fall in line and vote the way you want, or that Biden can order them to do so.

I like ogkb, but you're better off banging your head into a brick wall than discussing politics with him.

^but you're better off banging your head into a brick wall than discussing politics with him

The results are similar.

his endless baseless rants really are not about politics, but i do not know what the hell he spews about, nor understand what he thinks he might gain from his endless psychobabble of  clueless rants / insulting / being the victim  I am right <> you are all losers, I am the only pure one here

a new form of tinhatism i guess

^youre a mess, lltd.

so we should revisit this conversation after the dems lose the midterms b/c they're leaving people high n dry?

incrementalism  doesn't work. it's why we are where we are.

people like lltd are the worst b/c they think all these issues were created by trump.

did pelosi/schumer endorse manchin in 2018?

NoI I don't just blame trump  and yes easily the worst and laziest  ( self centered gangster stupid ) president in 100 years

nor just  blame the republicans   I do think they are massive Hypocrites however

the system of politics suck.  And the fact that people donate money for political races is completely fucked up

and the balance of power

and equity Is impossible due the rich motherfuckers and lobbyists

we need to start there

However negotiation and compromise are part of life and every relationship

Party first politics has held this country back for 30 years now, stagnant as fuck is what we have become, and other countries are soon to be passing us by

His new lawyers spelled "United" in "United States Senate" wrong in today's filing.

Clipboard02_482.jpg

^ Priceless.

Not the brightest lasers

The Democrats probably will lose the House and/or Senate in 22, but it won't have shit to do with them being proactive or progressive enough. The reality is, it's just super rare for a Party to hold control in the Executive and Legislative branches. I'm not sure why, but it just doesn't happen.

>>>>>incrementalism  doesn't work. it's why we are where we are.

The only reason we are reduced to incrementalism is that we don't have enough votes in  congress or the support of enough of the American populace to go whole hog. We don't go incremental because we want to - we do it because we have to. The right has been dumbing down the educational system for 40 years ur more until they now have half the country voting against its own best interests. Until they vote for better congresspeople we will have only incremental progress at best.

^major issue right there.

"it's all the republicans fault".

dems vote against their own interests as well.

dem/gop is the party of wall st. same interests. same goals. slightly diff methods to achieve those goals.

part way through s4

Is it wrong to feel sorry for Nacho?
