Can Ryan Adams stay away from little girls?

When Adams began corresponding online with a fan, Ava, in 2013, she was a 14-year-old bass player already forging a career.

But their correspondence about music turned into graphic texting. Eventually, Ava said, they conducted video calls on Skype, where Adams exposed himself during phone sex.

The Times has reviewed extensive communication between the two, including 3,217 text messages they exchanged over a nine-month period when Ava was 15 and 16. (The Times is identifying Ava, now 20, by her middle name because she was a minor during their online relationship. They never met in person.)

In the texts, Adams questioned Ava repeatedly about her age, and sometimes she said she was older than she was. Though he did not seem convinced, their sexual conversations continued. “i would get in trouble if someone knew we talked like this,” Adams wrote to her in November 2014.

At least he wasn't having his goon squad throw the underage girl into the trunk of the car like Jimmy Page did.  And let's not get started on Ted Nugent.

Ted Nugent has hits.

Cryin' Ryan has always been too emo for me.

yeah and I'm sure there weren't any sexual assaults in the dead scene either.

oh JFC

Mockingbird is taking fire

It's Trending On Twitter.

And Ryan Getting TORCHED On Twitter As Well.

Well sending dick pics to a 14 year old is never a good look.

I wonder what Jimmy Page et al think when they see stuff like this gong down.

Ryan Will NEVER Set Foot In New York Ever Again !!!! Even Though He Has Songs about NY ! and I Question The Writers of The Article Joe Coscarelli and Melena Ryzik  They Could Be GIANT Kooks ? Well Let This Play Out.

Fox News is in New York.

Not Defending Ryan - Has Issues - Love/ Hates With Women - Many Depressing Songs - Probably Bored and Frustrated Alot Of The Time.

6 of the 7 women seem to be talking to the NYT about him being an awful boyfriend. He’s not raping, physically abusing. The underage girl thing is bad yet she was lying to him about her age as well.

As far as #metoo moments go, this is pretty low on the totem pole. I bet he’ll be allowed back in NYC.

6 of the 7 women seem to be talking to the NYT about him being an awful boyfriend. <<

Well Maybe They Were Shitty Too !! It Happens ____________angry.

Chicks Can SUCK Too.

Case In point I Was At A Bar recently And i Saw A Chick Literally Swipe My Visa Card off The Bar and Tried To Bail ! angry

Skifuther has a friend who Ryan was enamored with, hopefully he wasn’t mean to her too.

After reading this article he sounds like a giant douchebag using his position of authority for his own sexual gratification. That shit must suck for women trying to make their way in a chosen career.

FACT - Ryan Adams Will SUE The New York Times And WIN The Case of Allegations Against Him  yes

put that in your pipe Denny

Fact: Ryan Adams fucks underage soft drinks!

My Last Post on The Subject ^^^^ NAYSAYERS

Got PROOF E ?

Post his best song.

Even if he sues and wins he's still a giant d-bag, vape that brother.

steady there, plf. never go full melt.

NOW we know what “Beautiful Soda” REALLY means

Manafort lied and will soon be in prison, trump caves on the wall, if you see a pic of trump hair in the wind....He looks like the Nazi in The Strain and I got 5 more weeks in Florida. No stress here, life is good

Sounds like Ryan was using the "casting couch" - granted he's not as much of a scum bag as Harvey Weinstein, but yuck. Nothing cool about what he did to young  musicians who  trusted they'd be treated professionally.

"Ryan Will NEVER Set Foot In New York Ever Again !!!!"

That's a bet I'll take.

Skifuther has a friend who Ryan was enamored with

Not true. Although I met and conversed a bit with the woman I referred to, it would be quite a stretch to say we are friends. Just a point of clarification.

I have found that rushing to any conclusion as to what did or didn't happen with a story like this is not in anybody's best interest. I'm sure more information with come out as time marches forward that will clarify things a bit more.

Not good.

"he sounds like a giant douchebag using his position of authority for his own sexual gratification"

How long until the Bob Weir stories break??????

Imagine if someone interviewed all of your ex's and people who kinda' came within your orbit, then rolled up any disparaging comments into a bizarre hit piece, for inclusion in the New York Times.

This is way way out there.

>>>Imagine if someone interviewed all of your ex's and people who kinda' came within your orbit, then rolled up any disparaging comments into a bizarre hit piece, for inclusion in the New York Times.

Yeah...I can't say I have a shiny perfect life but there are definitely no stories about trying to hook up with underage girls and using my career power to do so.

>>>FACT - Ryan Adams Will SUE The New York Times And WIN The Case of Allegations Against Him

You must know more than I.  Seems like they have plenty of witnesses to support the article.   If it was one or two, maybe you'd be right.    Hate to say it, but with his head case temperament, I'd be fearful of something darker.

I think we all know what sin replaces love now.

Oh boy...

Bob weir prolly had lotsa fun back in the 70's-80's, pretty sure he wasn't date raping any little girls.

Bobby met his wife when she was 15. She’d come back to his hotel suite and sleep on the couch, while Bobby banged multiple hotties in the bedroom. They had no physical encounters until she was legal.

Hoover's movie trailer was 1000 times better than anything Blue Light has ever produced!

I wonder how nervous John Mayer is right now?

Mayer joined DeadCo to remove himself from temptation. He gets no play from the sausage fest.

I was thinking more about girls from his past speaking up.  Like Bricks friends sister or whoever he Irish-skidooed on.

Who writes these headlines?

Dangled success his weiner.

Billy Gibbons wife/girlfriend, Gilligan hooked up with him when she was still a teen. Their story is no hanky panky until she was legal. She was the girl in a tee shirt.

He should start a new band and call it Whiskeydick.

Actually looks to me like Mandy is getting ready to sue Ryan for financial losses incurred due to his abusive behavior.. Though I have loved Ryan’s music, this is all very believable... They have the text messages... to me it sounds like he was coaching and grooming this girl to lie to him about her age.. pretty disgusting and creepy..

the internet is not a good place for him

Julian Casablancas (The Strokes) was pissed at Ryan for bringing drugs over to their bass player Albert Hammond Jr.'s house.

“Ryan would always come and wake me at two in the morning and have drugs, so I’d just do the drugs and kind of numb out,” Hammond said in the oral history. “I knew I would shoot up drugs from a very young age. I’d been wanting to do heroin since I was 14 years old.”

Bill Cosby will be both managing and doing an opening monologue for Pelvic Thrust.

plf is beginning to read like a closeted incel. victim shaming and calling women bitches isn't a good look, plf.

Here is an op-ed piece on Ryan Adams and the problem of "beta male misogyny" in the world of "indie music":

 https://www.theguardian.com/music/2019/feb/14/the-ryan-adams-allegations...

Remember when Zoners were ragging on RA, he threw a hissy fit, went crying to Yoko, and she made her man get the place shut down?

Damn, those were the good old days.

They also showed me that RA is a big bitch.

RA, was the end P&F for me.

Whatever happened to the days when creepy older guys could away with scarring 15 year old girls?

The guys a douche. If you’ve ever thought differently you’re most likely a douche too.

>>>>Here is an op-ed piece on Ryan Adams and the problem of "beta male misogyny" in the world of "indie music":

Its an interesting subject.

Rock and Roll and sex and sexuality have always been intertwined to me. Growing up, reading and hearing stories about groupies and musicians, it seemed like becoming a “rock star” came with the benefit of infinite access to women who were willing to be with their musical idols, no strings attached.

Fast-forward to now.

I have never in my life said to anyone that “I’m an alpha male” or “I’m a beta male”, so the whole concept of “beta male misogyny” is a foreign concept to me. My initial reaction after reading the article in the Guardian is that if investigative journalists want to start turning over rocks that they will find hundreds of men and possibly even a few women who have abused their power in return for sex.

It’s going to take a while for me to wrap my mind around all of this. Having been sexually abused as a kid I have nothing but sympathy for “Ava” and I’m glad that her interactions with him were only on-line.

As for the adult women, I have less sympathy. Maybe because I’m a guy I don’t “get it”. Maybe because I grew up in a different time I don’t “get it”.

I just know that this all sucks.

>>>>The guys a douche. If you’ve ever thought differently you’re most likely a douche too

hey have I ever told you what a douche bag you seem like?

Remember when Phil got mad because everyone was bagging on Ryan Adams? Was it RBG who got personally chastised by Phil or someone else? Classic moments.

Personally i really liked the Ryan Adams covers by Phil and Friends, just didn't want him in the band.

He's a lot better than Jackie greene

Don't worry there will be plenty of time later to bag on Jackie Greene, today its Ryan Adams.

He compared John Mayer to Dylan recently.

Yeah, no.

Ryan Adams is my generations Neil Young

>>>   Was it RBG who got personally chastised by Phil or someone else?

I think RBG was chastised, but (to my memory) the Reaper got both chastised and a personal finger from Phil & Jill....although the Reaper's humiliation might have been related to something else.

>>>>Reaper's humiliation might have been related to something else.

I recall he said some not so nice things about Jill Lesh.   That's when Phil dove in for a personal public shaming and banning.

>hey have I ever told you what a douche bag you seem

And you are?

Aside from a joke that has to hide their original screen name out of embarrassment...

Phil douched big time going after RBG and Reaper.

>>>>And you are?

i’d imagine that enjoying Ryan Adams music isn’t high on the list of reasons as to why I’d be a douche but I’m more of a “live and let live” kind of douche, you know?

Ryan's made good music. Ryan is a douche of a person. Neither are inclusive of the other.

not sure why famous people need to do this?

I’m waiting for the tweet from Letterman next

Reminds me of the Sopranos episode where uninterested in his job or in going back to college, A.J. spends most of his time hanging out in New York nightclubs with his high school buddy Hernan O'Brien and his new friends, some of them underage girls. His club acquaintances are impressed with him because of who his father is. A.J. brags to one of the girls and implies he will take revenge on Junior for shooting Tony. To afford more clubbing, A.J. sells the drum kit Tony gave him as a gift. While the pair are fishing on Tony's boat, A.J. asks what they are going to do about Junior; Tony tells A.J. he should not concern himself with Junior. In session with Dr. Melfi, Tony complains about A.J.'s laziness and asks for advice. Melfi says modern youth are overwhelmed with information and reach maturity later than previous generations, and suggests that Tony and Carmela impose concrete rules. A.J. asks his parents to provide him a nightclub to manage but gets little support from them. Carmela wants A.J. to study event planning and Tony offers to get him a place at Beansie's pizzeria.

One day, A.J. tries to get up early but ends up sleeping past noon; at Carmela's urging to do something important as he planned, A.J. takes a knife and visits Junior in the mental hospital. When Junior sees A.J., he begs him to take him home. Petrified, A.J. drops the knife and is tackled by orderlies as he tries to escape. After arranging for Assemblyman Zellman for a favor to have A.J. released from custody without criminal charges, Tony picks up A.J. and violently confronts him. In tears, A.J. calls his father a hypocrite because Tony admires Michael Corleone for avenging the attempted murder of his father in The Godfather. Tony, although touched by his son's intentions, tells him that he needs to grow up and to never tell Carmela about the incident. During A.J.'s next night out clubbing, one of Hernan's friends asks him to get Tony to intimidate his landlord. Retreating to the restroom, A.J. has a panic attack.

Vito, pretending to be a writer named "Vince", spends more time at Jim's diner in New Hampshire. One evening, he witnesses Jim performing a heroic rescue of a young child while working as a volunteer firefighter and later compliments him on his heroism. Jim, who is revealed to also be a father, takes an interest in Vito's book and questions him about the lonely life of a writer. Meanwhile, Vito steals the cell phone of a fellow guest at his bed-and-breakfast and calls his wife, Marie. She begs him to come home and tells him that Phil wishes to put him through "treatment" for Vito's homosexuality. Vito tells her not to trust Phil, and instructs her where to find $30,000 cash in the house. Marie puts their son on the phone, and Vito has a brief, pained conversation with him. Vito spends an evening with Jim and other firefighters at a local roadhouse. Later, after admiring Jim's motorcycle in the parking lot, Vito rejects his sexual advances. The two throw punches and Jim leaves Vito beaten.

Days later, Vito goes back to the diner to reconcile, telling Jim that "sometimes you tell a lie so long, you don't know when you are safe" and the two decide to patch things up. They then take a motorcycle ride together that results in a romantic picnic and them having sex in a secluded field. Back in Jersey, Chris suggests to Tony that Carloshould kill him if he is ever found to appease "the crews." Phil pressures Tony to find Vito, and warns that he will not swallow his pride on this issue like he did when Tony B killed Billy. Phil tells Tony that if his father was around, there wouldn't be any discussion about Vito's fate. Phil then reiterates that Vito shamed his family. Tony responds by walking away in a huff. Meanwhile, during Melfi's own psychotherapy session with Dr. Kupferberg, she becomes annoyed by Kupferberg's interest in Tony's therapy. Melfi blurts out her belief that Tony's unwillingness to talk about his feelings to Junior will eventually make him "decompensate."

While collecting their take, Burt and Patsy find themselves unable to extort money from the manager of a major coffee chain. Julianna Skiff, a real estate agent representing Jamba Juice, approaches Tony and asks if he is interested in selling the building he rents to Caputo's Poultry, one of the other businesses Burt and Patsy take collections from. Tony rejects the deal, stating that the poultry store is part of the neighborhood. Skiff next seeks out Tony at the Bada Bing and makes an increased offer on the building. Tony again declines, but tells her he is interested in Skiff sexually and asks her out to dinner. Mentioning the new outlook brought about by the shooting, Tony tells her that he knows what he wants in life. Stating that she is engaged to another man, she turns him down. Tony hints ideas about having an affair to Melfi, but then tells her he could not bring himself to do it because of Carmela's affection to him during his recuperation.

Julianna calls Tony with a third offer on the building of about $495,000, which he accepts, but asks her to let him come to her apartment that evening, ostensibly to complete the paperwork. In his bedroom, while Tony is dressing for the encounter, Carmela helps pick out a shirt for him and assists him in buttoning it up. At Julianna's, after Tony signs the paperwork, the two start kissing passionately, and Julianna starts unbuttoning Tony's shirt. Tony makes her stop and abruptly departs, heading home to Carmela where he is on a tear, claiming his anger is due to the lack of smoked turkey in the fridge.

Burt and Patsy later revisit Caputo's Poultry to collect the weekly take, and Caputo, furious, informs the pair that Tony has sold the building to Jamba Juice. Outside, Patsy laments, "What the fuck is happening to this neighborhood?"

"I don't care if you have homework!  Put on your Cold Roses t shirt and sing Wonderwall to me or I'll kill myself!"

from that "STUPID" New York Times article.

>The F.B.I. is looking into whether the singer-songwriter Ryan Adams, 44, committed a crime by engaging in sexually explicit communications with an underage fan, according to a law enforcement official with knowledge of the matter.

As reported by The New York Times on Wednesday, Adams and a young woman, who said her online communications with the singer began when she was 14 and continued until she was 16, exchanged text messages and conducted video calls that sometimes included nudity. The two never met in person.

Adams, through his lawyer, Andrew B. Brettler, has denied that he “ever engaged in inappropriate online sexual communications with someone he knew was underage.” On Thursday, Brettler said that he had not been contacted by law enforcement. He declined to comment further.

In response to The Times’s article, F.B.I. agents in the bureau’s New York office on Thursday took the first steps to open a criminal investigation, according to the official, who declined to be identified because the person was not authorized to discuss it publicly.

Ryan Adams’ New Album Big Colors Pulled From Release After Abuse Allegations

https://pitchfork.com/news/ryan-adams-new-album-big-colors-pulled-from-r...

Didn't Mayer and Bobby separately do a collab something or another recently with him?

Adams has recruited some prominent political reporters to help announce the albums’ releases. MSNBC’s Katy Tur first shared details of Big Colors; now, Politco’s Jake Sherman has unveiled the title and artwork for Adams’ second album, Wednesdays. Additionally, Adams will be divulging more information on Big Colors, including a tracklist, tomorrow through Washington Post’s Power Up.

I bet Lyle Lovett has done some pretty questionable things sexually.

Katy Tur is a big Phish fan she often quotes Phish lyrics on her show. I am sure they will all pull their support for Ryan

Katy Tur stuck with Phish through the Mike Gordon “boathouse photos with a minor” incident but is breaking up with Ryan?

Devastating news at 11.

Ryan’s brother died of suicide recently so he won’t be releasing a statement. His name was Chris.

You're right, that's actually his cousin Jesse.

I don’t doubt that, had there been social media in the 60s - 90s, a lot of rock stars would be in the same boat as RA.

In this day and age, where info can be disseminated in seconds, and people are eagerly looking for naughty behavior, things are different.

If RA loses his career over this, it’s on him. At the end of the day, though, if he’s still putting out good music, people will still buy tickets and albums. Shitty behavior is expected of rock stars, so people give them a pass.

So true.  Glad social media and instant sharing of pictures wasn't around when I was a teenager.

That being said, Jerry Lee Lewis' career took a hit when he ran off with his 13-year-old cousin.  But I guess the Killer made an honest woman out of her by marrying her, which ultimately made it a little more acceptable.

im willing to bet that today, the mere release of mexicali blues would be a scandal...maybe not as significant as the harassment scandals going around but it would not be a smooth album release...a song like that today could end a career.

Keep up the good fight, PLF. have you donated to Cryin Ryan’s legal defense fund yet?

And please don’t go all Bluelight on us, m’kay?

Looks like someone is out of herb again.

May I suggest scraping your bowl and doing a hot knife of resin?

Brian, since you seem to be the expert on the topic, is PLF "admittedly" M.I.?

Do we need to stop engaging? Or just hope he gets stoned, and fast?

Admittedly? Nah. A couple of bong hits would probably do the trick.

I’ve been wondering, how does one run out of herb in CA, where it’s legal, plentiful and cheap?

And please don’t go all Bluelight on us, m’kay?

If you look toward the horizon, you might cath a glimpse of that ship.  But you better hurrysmiley

yeah. ^

> A couple of bong hits would probably do the trick.

except that bong hits don't solve pedo pervs...

>I’ve been wondering, how does one run out of herb in CA, where it’s legal, plentiful and cheap?

One doesn't, BK. That ain't the problem.

This is a pretty good thread.

As for me, since the first time I saw Ryan live I've been a big fan, and have pretty much loved every show I've ever seen him perform.

That being said, years before I knew anything about him or his music I had a good idea that he was a screwed up, extremely flawed person. Years before I had any exposure to him a number of my friends hated Ryan because he once had a temper tantrum during a Whiskeytown soundcheck at the SF Fillmore and threw a brand new monitor off the stage, busting the monitor and gouging a hole in the dance floor. (One of those friends has been ripping on Ryan and that incident again lately because of these new accusations.)

Any time his name or music would come up all they could do was bag on what a douche he was, but once I saw him perform and became a fan I often have argued the line hoover put up earlier about separating the art from the artist, something that is pretty important if you want to enjoy great art, especially if you have behind the scene access to the person and not just their art.

So I'm still a fan of his art and always will be because to me he's a brilliant artist, but damn Sam, once again his actions as a person sure seem to show a very screwed up person. I'll likely pay see him again in concert, but I doubt I'd ever invite him into my house.

This thing is a huge mess for everyone involved, and IMO he'll deserve whatever he gets from his foolish, reprehensible actions. No one deserves to be controlled & manipulated in the ways these stories are telling, and I feel bad for the kid particularly, but at the moment I'm also feeling pity for Ryan, because in almost all ways the guy comes off as an incredibly screwed up, unhappy, unsatisfied person which leads him to unacceptable actions (i.e. a douche) which is always a shame.

Yeah, he seems like a douche too.

But can he sing?

the real question is, can plf stay away from ryan adams?

Capture3.JPG

What a mess...smh

Hey now, I just got back from my evening out and I see that Plf was REALLY ranting at the end of his multiple Goodby Cruel Zone posts in that disastrous thread he started that has now been shut down.

Anybody know how to reach out to that guy and make sure he's OK?

Come back to us Plf. I promise I won't call you dude or tease you about your unique punctuation style anymore.

Only other zoner besides Plf that I can recall threatening suicide was Streetvan.Maybe Newfun did too?  Makes for an Epic depature, virtually speaking.

Of course anyone actually contemplating suicide should seek help. Call a suicide hotline number. Seriously, Rob.

Threatening suicide or blaming others  is a good sign that one should seek mental health care and log off chat sites are that upsetting.

That includes RA and anyone who may be dealing with pain and/or criminal allegations.

Phoebe Bridges (instagram): It’s been a weird week and I wanted to say a couple things.
Thank you from my whole fucking heart to my friends, my bands, my mom. They all supported and validated me. They told me that what had happened was fucked up and wrong, and that I was right to feel weird about it. I couldn’t have done this without them.
Ryan had a network too. Friends, bands, people he worked with. None of them held him accountable. They told him, by what they said or by what they didn’t, that what he was doing was okay. They validated him. He couldn’t have done this without them.
Guys, if your friend is acting fucked up, call them out. If they’re actually your friend, they’ll listen. That’s the way this all gets better.

more on the topic:

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/jenny-lewis-ryan-adams-dee...

Hey Rob, if you’re still reading Viva I hope you’re doing better today than yesterday.  Sucks about Ryan but the music is still good (except for most of the stuff after Easy Tiger).  Get some tacos, spin some tunes, get your toes in the ocean, and enjoy the rest of the weekend.  Most important; don’t hurt yourself.  Love ya Buddy.

While Phoebe may be right, it's not so simple as just holding the person accountable. If you try... The afflicted person with power just fires you and hires someone else for their band. Not an easy place for the artist trying to pay the bills and create a career.

Weird thread, Nanc seems to be expressing suppressed guilt.

Remember plf, you are loved by many people including myself. Hoover gave you some pretty good advice. Hope you're doing better today.

Word.  Judit has my email if you ever want to drop a line.  Hope you're enjoying sunny California today.

Plf, I have been diagnosed with intractable pain. I disagree with the diagnosis.  Just chronic .. I have and am finding ways to deal with it. Yet it does

affect the way I think some times.

Some good posts above. Chime in if you want to talk on the phone,Bro.

So, in case you’re worried about Rob, don’t be. His twitter, easily searchable from the post above, is very active today retweeting about the Daytona 500, PGA, and giving female TV reporters his assessment about their use of make-up

>While Phoebe may be right, it's not so simple as just holding the person accountable

when victims of abuse speak up and stand up for one another - like the teens and women Ryan has harmed -  it’s a start. But yes, in a perfect world they wouldn’t be victimized at all. hopefully having incidents like this being exposed and investigated will act as a deterrent for other creeps in the business. It’s obviously a complicated issue, but the #metoo movement is promising.

jazz fish, I’m sorry you’re  in pain too and hope you’re not gonna claim you’re suicidal either. Pain though is no excuse for being a creep. A perv, a manipulative asshole, and/or a misogynistic prick.

Suppressed guilt? Sure thing, Doc. Whatever you say. Lol.

>>>Sucks about Ryan but the music is still good (except for most of the stuff after Easy Tiger).

maybe if he'd focused more on the music over the last decade and a spent a little less time victimizing women, things could have been different.

>>>but the music is still good (except for most of the stuff after Easy Tiger)<<<

Every time I see him play live, the music is still good. A friend at that Chris Cornell tribute show just a few weeks ago said Ryan KILLED it there.

Who cares about records?

The music is still good.

>>>>A friend at that Chris Cornell tribute show just a few weeks ago said Ryan KILLED it there.

i heard the same thing about Miley Cyrus

>>>Who cares about records?

his greatest strength is as a songwriter

51F0F504-C938-4DC5-BCC2-D09311A7473E.jpegRyan’s guitar player for the last few years, Todd, bravely speaks out, after hearing that anyone who has ever worked with Ryan is actually an enabler.

Nanc, just stop your gang up and innuendos on fellow zoners that are down.  Very f**king trumpish.

Check your package and carry on.

You should be embarrassed.

>>Todd, bravely speaks out, after hearing that anyone who has ever worked with Ryan is actually an enabler.

Sure, now that Ryan's been exposed as a dirtball.  So brave.

He WANTED to speak out but was afraid for the safety of his family.

OF COURSE, sounds legit.

Like Kadlicek, he is literally putting his life at risk to play for you people.

>>>his greatest strength is as a songwriter<<<

Meh. He's a prolific songwriter for sure, and he's written many fine songs, but IMO his greatest strength is as a singer and his presence & gravitas as a performer.

Even with all his songs, if he sang like Ross James he'd be working in a comic book store and paying off his 2012 Toyota Camry from the royalties of his songs he had sold to others to sing.

And maybe playing in an Iron Maiden cover band.

Cryin’ Ryan isn’t a zoner, Jaz. my remarks were directed at him..and the dimwited crybabies who defend the creep.

>>>>> and his presence & gravitas as a performer.

It all seems more fake than before.

I remember when Phil called out peeps on the zone for trashing Ryan Adams...he shut it down for a few days......the rev being a reporter for star magazine comes to mind....

Yup, and now look what happened.

Phil has some ‘splaining to do.

Maybe we should all apologize for ever having anything to do with Ryan Adams

Too late for apologies, I’m afraid.

(psst, I was joking about Phil. He certainly was a doosh to those who were critical of his boy though)

>>>Too late for apologies, I’m afraid

dang.

well, can we at least all agree to collectively disown Ryan Adams then?

Sure, although some aren’t willing to go so far as to disown his music, and I’m okay with that.

I never owned any myself, but won’t hold it against anyone who continues to listen to their favorite RA albums.

Wonder if  Phil will invite RA to play with him and at TXR after  every other musician disowns him

The sadness is mine
The sadness is mine
Its why you're not healing me
And whatever has come for me
Oh I can give you whatever you're wanting
Just take it and spare me spare me
Please oh tell me this is only a warning/no
Please have mercy let me go

Cool, see?

we've already begun the healing process

Nancy, did you get rid of your Janet Jackson records after she exposed herself at the Super Bowl?

Like I ever owned any Jackson albums, lol. And dude, there’s no comparison to RA

maybe you’re thinking about the pedo Michael Jackson?

So, no?

So ...I have no idea what you’re talking about

Yeah.

whatchu talkin bout, herbaldave?

thanks JR I Consider YOU A Friend after spending Time with you and that Knockout Bartender babe Years ago. Rob

Phil told us that Ryan was the closest thing to Jerry Garcia he had come across.

In retrospect, what was he trying to tell us about Jerry???

I saw a documentary recently that painted Jerry as a flawed individual who had bad relationships with women.

“I love playing with Ryan because he’s fearless; because he doesn’t have to do anything the same way twice; because every idea he throws out in a jam is a little gem that cries out “polish me”; because he has about nine hundred voices that he can use like a Bene Gesserit; because of his huge heart and enormous talent. I like it that we deconstruct the songs so that verses are transposed, or the bridge comes in early, or the jam leads back to a verse instead of a chorus. I like it that we have to be on our tippy-tippy toes to make the acute left turns and abrupt changes that Ryan likes to spring on us. I like to spring those kind of changes too- what do you think I’m doing when I talk into my mike and you can’t hear me? I love playing with Ryan because he takes me back to when the Grateful Dead were young, fearless, crazy and didn’t give a shit about what other people thought we should do. If what you desire is the perfect rendition, there are many excellent bands that perform Grateful Dead songs- but I have never been about perfection and never will be. I do promise that I will always do my best to follow my weird. I hope you will join me, but I do understand if your path takes you elsewhere. I will also say with no hesitation that Jerry would have loved Ryan and his fearless interpretations of his songs. It’s funny, but I feel Jerry close to me whenever I am around Ryan. — Phil Lesh (January 2006)

What fucking songs are these people talking about?

All of the unreleased stuff. It’s top notch.

No it's not and u know it's not!

 Ryan Adams is  MONSTER:

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/ryan-adams-guitarist-todd-...

Ryan Adams’ guitarist, Todd Wisenbaker, urged Adams to “get help” after the musician was accused of emotional abuse and sexual misconduct by several women in a recent New York Times report.

In a post on Instagram, Wisenbaker suggested that he’d previously known about Adams’ alleged behavior, saying, “There were times when I chose to believe his insane version of the truth because it was easier than believing that anyone is capable of being this much of a monster. It’s sickening and embarrassing. I’ve recently learned that pretty much everything he’s ever told me is a lie upon a lie upon a lie.”

Seven women accused Adams of misconduct and abuse, including his ex-wife Mandy Moore and singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridges. Among the most jarring claims came from a woman named “Ava,” who said that after striking up an online dialogue with Adams when she was 14, the two of them engaged in phone sex and had Skype calls where Adams exposed himself (the FBI has since opened an investigation into the claim).

In his statement, Wisenbaker said he previously urged Adams to get help, and that he believed in “forgiveness, redemption and recovery.” However he added: “[M]y life has become a complete shitstorm of someone else’s utter delusion.”

Wisenbaker also admitted he was anxious about addressing the accusations out of concern for the safety of his family. But he noted, “I do realize that I have a responsibility to speak up. The women that spoke out are brave beyond words.”

Yeah, his guitarist just disowned Ryan. And now I really do want to know if Phil will do the same.

Yup, we know about his guitarist and his family being in danger. Posted about it yesterday morning, try to keep up.

Hopefully the family band has entered the witness protection program and hopefully Phil will release a statement on Pigpen and the Lovelight rap soon too.

Is Neal Casal still playing with CRB and CATS?

First Saturday in April TXR is hosting an all ages outdoor show billed as To Be Young (is to be sad; is to be high) and the Family Band will be playing only Ryan Adams covers.

Phil could  make it a RA legal defense fundraiser ^

>Posted about it yesterday morning, try to keep up.

I hadn't read the article I linked until this morning. If you already shared it, please forgive me. laugh

It's possible that Ryan has threatened his guitarist in the past, or maybe he witnessed an angry  Ryan threatening others. Statistically, angry white men who mistreat women do pose a threat, particularly when they own firearms. No idea if Ryan does or not, but maybe that's what his guitarist is alluding to.

If you’re a man and you’re afraid of that little Rick Moranis looking fucker then you’re not a real man.

As far as rock stars that would be easy to beat up Ryan comes in at number 2 behind that twink from Greta Van Fleet.  Any member of Railroad Earth could whoop Ryan’s ass.  Even Kang is probably tougher.

But what if he has a gun, like Nancy said. THEN what would he do????????

Probably murder his whole family, that’s what.

Yeah an armed Ryan Adams is tenfold more dangerous than an unarmed Ryan Adams.  I agree Nancy made a very valid what if there.

A cage match with RA, RRE, and SCI would be pretty hilarious.  Could give the jamband scene the kick in the pants it’s been needing.

He’s got an army of cats that all shoot lasers from their eyeballs too.

Totally Tod is fucked. Maybe I should warn him on social media.

After what he did to Wolf, Ryan is  capable of anything.

(kidding..sort of)

Ryan is exactly the type of pussy that would hide behind a gun.

Top National Threats as of Feb. 18, 2019

2) immigrants

3) an armed Ryan Adams

‘you’re a nobody girl’

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/ryan-adams-abuse-me-too-so...

>>..Much like with Louis CK, R. Kelly and Woody Allen, it’s now easy to see how Adams used his art as a sort of staging ground for the power-wielding abuses and transgressions in his personal life. The singer’s finely-tuned performance of emotional neediness was part and parcel with the pattern of manipulation and alleged emotional abuse he had been engaging in for the better part of his adulthood. “A more insidious strain of destructive, misogynistic masculinity, not burying their emotions but wielding them as weapons of domination and control,” as Anna Leszkiewicz put it last week in her incisive essay. “This masculinity is narcissism disguised as vulnerability and emotional honesty.”

...

In his music, Adams often weaponized that openness and even vulnerability as an instrument of control. “Nobody Girl,” off 2001’s Gold, is an almost boastful portrayal of gaslighting, with the narrator spending much of the song trying to convince a woman to second-guess her tough decision to leave.

“Say you follow your heart/Well, honey you’re just being lost,” Adams sings, “You could follow your gut/But how much would it cost?” In the chorus, Adams renders her powerless while offering his version of an abuser’s catchphrase: “they don’t know you anyway.”

“You’re nobody girl. You’re nobody girl,” he tells her, before stripping the woman of her very personhood, : “You’re a nobody girl.”..

Great song.

Phil covered it

I’ve got one:

From the song “Shakedown on 9th Street”, Adams writes:

“Someone's gonna get it ain't gonna be me
Lucy Lucy my gal
Lucy Lucy my sweet”

let’s analyze: WHO is going to get “it”? Not Ryan, that’s for sure. It’s going to be his sweet gal Lucy who is going to get it. And what is “it”? Obviously we know now that “it” is either unsolicited dick pics or mental abuse.

We are all complicit.

Not a fan of that song. Heard FJ do it with Phil.

Does anyone else besides Jar Jar and Phil cover Ryan Adams?

I like both of those songs.

As always I'm glad I never listen to or give much thought to the meaning of lyrics in songs.

Yes Bono and the Corrs cover Ryan Adams I think that’s it: https://youtu.be/Ry8puXc7Tt4

Hahaha I found Tug McGraw Jr. doing the same song: https://youtu.be/fIZ-2FB5a3g

Apparently he canceled the entire UK and Ireland tour that was to start at the end of March.

Not surprised, I saw Mandy on the cover of us weekly in the grocery store check out line just the other day.

If he's front page tabloid fodder at this point i'd venture to say Adams is toast, at the very least for the rest of this year.

whatever, those 3 albums probably woulda mostly sucked anyway

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/why-...

>Apparently he canceled...

I don't think Ryan canceled the tour..news reports are saying he was dropped..fired. but yeah, no tour.

He's dead, Jim

Ha yeah from the looks of it, anyone who wasn’t coming to Tod’s defense were labeled as “Ryan”.

It got to the point where Tod was telling randoms that Ryan owed him $150,000.

Shortly after that, Tod put all of social media on private, which is probably a good idea, considering how much danger him and his family are in and considering that he was flailing as well.

R u saying u don't believe "Kylocopia" was RA, Bucky?

Fierce Backstabbery would have been a great name for the third album.

Ryan has some work ahead of him if he hopes to rehabilitate his career.  First, he is under investigation from the NYCPD, who may bring charges.  He'll need to make amends for, at the least, acting like such a stooge for so long.  Hopefully he's got a good therapist.  He'll have a lot of material to write about, but he may have lost his market.

 D76A871F-A1E5-44F1-A41D-4314FAE9C896.jpeg

>>>>R u saying u don't believe "Kylocopia" was RA, Bucky?

i honestly don’t know if any of the people bashing Tod were Ryan, but that’s the theory. It’s definitely not beyond him to do such a thing.

i also honestly feel that calling any commenter who is against you “Ryan” is pretty strange though. The idea that the only person who could possibly defend Ryan is Ryan himself is ridiculous. Bringing up personal issues with those people as if they ARE RYAN (“you owe me $150,000”) certainly doesn’t portray Tod in the best light.

Tod was taking a lot of heat for speaking out only after it was proclaimed that anyone who was friends or worked with Ryan was an enabler. There were some people posting who took the stance that BOTH him and Ryan are scum bags because Tod was with Ryan for so long and never said anything until after the fact. They didn’t like that he was being portrayed as a brave hero and champion of women when they claim Tod actually didn’t do anything help them at all when it mattered most.

So yeah, there were a lot of opinionated people in that 1000+ post Instagram thread. Calling everyone who disagrees “Ryan” and having personal conversations with them as such is NOT a good look and it was probably a good idea that Tod has since made all of his social media private.

>>>First, he is under investigation from the NYCPD, who may bring charges.

Hadn’t heard that before. Can you provide a link to the NYCPD investigation story?

The KTLA news anchor dude won't get a chance to rehabilitate anything.  He's just a dead husband/dad who shoved meth up his ass while having a motel rave with his grinder pal.  Oh, and he did popular food segments on the morning show.

>>>Tod was taking a lot of heat for speaking out only after it was proclaimed that anyone who was friends or worked with Ryan was an enabler. There were some people posting who took the stance that BOTH him and Ryan are scum

it's true, we're all on the chopping block here.

the only solution is to turn on RA vehemently and I'll have to insist u do the same, Bucky.

otherwise I'll b forced to badger u about it incessantly.

please don't make this any more difficult than it needs to b.

Ok fine.

I hate Ryan Adams now. All of his songs that used to sound great to me now sound like someone using an industrial style leaf-blower at 6am on a Saturday. I can’t believe I ever put so much faith and trust in him only for him to do this to me. I’ll never see him perform again as long as I live. I hope he is gang raped by large angry men while he is serving his time.

Have you guys been able to listen to him during sex?

Wow, that might b a bit much but thanks for seeing the light.

we're here for u during this difficult time

>>>>Have you guys been able to listen to him during sex?

Miss. Bucky Badger put the kibosh on that as soon as the article came out. She also gave me back the Ryan Adams/Batman pajama pants that she asked for for Christmas, which I thought was kind of rude.

And TY Furious

Well hello all my old friends! Thanks for the mentions! I can not believe my Ryan post is now a teenager (13). I would say it probably did not age too well LOL. I spend at least 10 minutes on the post and would have posted it on the zone had I been able to. Funny thing is I got banned from Ryan`s site immediately so I never followed up and Amy G and Chip Humble raided the zone to troll me back. I always thought both of those accounts were Ryan himself . I never really engaged with them as I pretty much had said what needed to be said and I really do not like repeating myself so I would probably be a terrible lawyer.

funny after Phil`s post my phone started ringing off the hook but I silenced it because I was having lunch with Yonrico Scott at Sweet Tomatoes we were talking about music and talking about Phil`s band . He got up and left and the phone rang again.

"Are you sitting down?"

me-"yes I am at lunch

"Phil just went off on you regarding your Ryan post"

Me-"Wow I guess I need to go home and read it"

(13 year ago my phone only rang,no zone)

I read the post and re-read the post and I kinda laughed. The tone in Phil`s post told me emphatically that what I posted was spot on and true.In the years to follow that post brought me to more people. Got me many drinks handed to me,many home cooked meals, lots of places to stay and more 4:20 moments to follow.Did I expect to be talking about that post in 2019? Not at all heck I did not expect to remember any of that in 2008....Anyhow with the news I have been seeing lately I figured I would pop in and there would be a thread where I could come say high!

I do plan on seeing Phil for the first time in years at Red Rocks if anyone has an extra I would enjoy sitting with you!

PS-I probably spend more time on this post then the one 13 years ago :)

Hi rev

Hey man, you still got that "bag"?

Almost as famous as the ziptard hotel debacle...

RBG a ghost from the folder, cool

"Hey man, you still got that "bag"?"

LOL "There and bag again" that bag must have traveled 10k miles maybe more! All going thru the worlds busiest airport in 2002!

"Almost as famous as the ziptard hotel debacle..."

I almost posted that in here but figured that would probably become a topic later....that was 17 years ago! Damn I am old AF now .

how's the new park in Atlanta treating you

Message From Phil
January 5th, 2006

"Don't worry up your mind
People are sick and mean sometimes
They're only words
They're only words"

Happy New Year, Heads!

So you all want answers. I'm here to provide some.

I am responsible for asking to take down the message board on Philzone. Until now, I have felt that the boards are your turf to trample as you will; but right before New Year's Eve one of my employees received a very threatening email from a frequent poster on Philzone. In the process of dealing with this I was shown that the discussions sometimes cross the line. For example - Bob Weir is dead; so and so (fill in the name of the musician you most love to hate) is a junkie/child-molester/wife-beater/asshole/sucks, etc.
Our attorneys are dealing with the threatening email, but they are concerned that Philzone.com/org is perceived to be an official site. We will be working with the Philzone team to clarify the distinction between the two.

I would like to start the New Year with some healthy communication, so I've asked my man JC to scour the message boards so I can respond to some of your questions and concerns.

Some questions from the TOO Board -

Subwoofer: "I will say this.... it's all very odd. Herring leaves under "interesting" circumstances.... so does Sipe.... Molo bows out for a bit but triumphantly returns....Ryan Adams is the most talked about "poor decision" that he's made, and yet he backs this RA like he's the second coming.... and he finally finds a gem with Barry Sless(too bad he couldn't keep David Nelson around a bit more!). But it's all very mysterious to me....and I'd think that Phil's fans would be questioning his motives."

Phil: Jimmy Herring and I had been growing apart musically since the December 04 shows. It seems we worked better together in the context of the Q. We discussed this after the December shows, after Mardi Gras, after the Colorado shows and we both still felt that it wasn't right after Vegas. Clearly, it would be a mistake to head off on a month long tour together, so rather than forcing the relationship we agreed to go our separate ways sooner than planned. At that point I decided to ask John Molo to do NYE instead of Jeff Sipe as he had more experience with the material- although Jeff will be joining me again in February.

Thinman: "Couldn't Phil sing Terrapin at least??"

Phil: Ha! If you insist, but you have to take the blame when everyone complains… I'll just direct everyone to your email address, OK?

From the Ryan Adams fan site -

(Rev Buddy Greene is a regular philzone poster who felt the need to go to the Ryan Adams fan site and trash him. He ends his rant with this): I want everyone to know that I am not a troll I am a music fan.

Phil: Hey Buddy; since you're a music fan, how about some intelligent musical observations, instead of writing what could be an article for Star magazine? Just for you, here are some musical (and some not) reasons why I love playing with Ryan. I love playing with Ryan because he's fearless; because he doesn't have to do anything the same way twice; because every idea he throws out in a jam is a little gem that cries out "polish me"; because he has about nine hundred voices that he can use like a Bene Gesserit; because of his huge heart and enormous talent.

I like it that we deconstruct the songs so that verses are transposed, or the bridge comes in early, or the jam leads back to a verse instead of a chorus. I like it that we have to be on our tippy-tippy toes to make the acute left turns and abrupt changes that Ryan likes to spring on us. I like to spring those kind of changes too- what do you think I'm doing when I talk into my mike and you can't hear me? I love playing with Ryan because he takes me back to when the Grateful Dead were young, fearless, crazy and didn't give a shit about what other people thought we should do. It's funny, but I feel Jerry close to me whenever I am around Ryan.

Phil: JC tells me that everyone wants to know about the Dead and Archive.org.

The Dead - The Dead is a big rusty machine that takes awhile to crank up. I am completely open to doing a Terrapin Station weekend and hopefully we will get it together for this summer.

Archive - I had two conversations with Cameron Sears, our CEO at GDP, regarding Archive, starting when our material first showed up there. I told Cameron that I was fine having the audience tapes up there, but that he should talk to everyone, including Bob Hunter and John Barlow, regarding the soundboards. A year later when I had not heard anything about the boards, I mentioned to Cameron that I felt by not doing anything we were making a decision about the boards and that I was fine with that. Again I urged him to talk to everyone. I was caught by complete surprise when, right before Thanksgiving, the recordings were pulled. I feel that Bobby was not updated properly and unfairly took most of the heat. A lot of our business disagreements are the result of poor communication from advisors. Bobby is my brother and I love him unconditionally; he is a very generous man, and was unfairly judged regarding the Archive issue.

In the end, what we want or enjoy in life comes down to personal preference; the best and the bravest will always follow their own path in their listening, in their reading, in their thinking, without any concern for the opinions of others.

Words of comfort whispered to the injured,
words of courage whispered to the scared,
words of encouragement whispered to a child,
words of love whispered to the sky.

Words have great power; use them wisely.

not far off from the allegations

>> [Ryan)  is a junkie/child-molester/wife-beater/asshole/sucks, etc.

"how's the new park in Atlanta treating you"

its ok but I find it hard to get to because they put it in a place where public transportation does not go to.Also it is smaller but that pretty much made it more cramped and walking around the lower concourse reminds me of walking around in an oversold show so I went from going to 40-50 games a year to 13 last season. So with that in mind I moved to Colorado after Panic New Years. I plan to fly in for opening day and a few other random games in the summer but I am really looking forward to when the Braves play at Coors 4-8 thru 4-10. I will always be a Braves fan but the management kind of lied to us common fans the last few years. "when we clear all these bad contracts we will have the flexibility to shop in all the aisles". 2019 all bad contracts cleared and payroll went down.  so I guess only time will tell what happens.

I do not know why Phil`s words were not put into my profile until now LOL

Well, this thread just got more interesting. Welcome (back), RBG. Interesting Chip Humble callout. Speaking of which, Bucky, have you met PLF?

that's pretty funny

>>> but right before New Year's Eve one of my employees received a very threatening email from a frequent poster on Philzone.

Skullpipes fessed up to being the one who sent the 'very threatening email' in a random sports folder thread not long after that all went down.

he wanted to put up a table in the lobby (for voter registration or alcoholics anonymous or something) and Phil's management team blew him off.

I think the table was for Organ Donations.

that makes sense.

Did Skullpipes ever find his lost sweatshirt?

he didn't mention it in the post i read.

This whole thing is a bummer from every angle.

I saw Chris Robinson's band last week at TxR (they were really good) and I had a couple of chances to speak with Neal Casal. I almost asked him about Ryan but I figured that was likely the last thing he would want to talk about. I imagine he would have some things to say though.

Ryan's career will probably be alright, but it sure does seem that his life may never be.

From the outside it seemed that it was the drugs that were making him batshit crazy and that when he got that under control it seemed for quite a while that he was better.

But at least from the cheap seats it sure does look like this guy is all twisted up from the inside out.

If nothing else he should stay the hell off the internet.

>>>Ryan's career will probably be alright

let's not speak too soon

Lots of his fans wanted him to fall on some hard times to give his songwriting a kick in the pants.

Good point, I suppose there's a chance we could see newer, better Ryan Adams arise from all this.

the cardinal could become the Phoenix, but that's only if he's lucky now.

For the time being my money's still on he's done for though

He could move to Tomales and play for dinners with Banana.

>>>let's not speak too soon<<<

If you mean from a legal standpoint, he'll have good lawyers and it sounds like the most serious charges are ambiguous enough, at least legally, for good lawyers to get him out of the worst of it.

From a fan/career standpoint, I'd say most of his fans will continue to be his fans, so I'm betting six months to a year out of the spotlight (and hopefully off social media) and he'll be back.

Especially if he apologizes. Because America loves apologies.

Crying helps too, and he is Cryin' Ryan after all.

I think he should go off the grid and become a shaggy, drifter, pin ball repair man.

"Thanks old timer, the flippers on this table ain't never been right. You're a real wiz. Hey, I Noticed ya got a guitar in the back of that pickup, ya play some?"

"once....in another life"

I like that scenario Furious E.

For now, he's more like Fryin' Ryan, Lance.

Maybe a trailer park in Sky Valley.

Indeed, this is a new age we're living in.

while adams isn't nearly as mainstream as most, have any entertainers in the post #metoo era been able to shake off these type of allegations in 6 months to a year and been able to go about bizness as usual?

Motley Crüe?  No, wait. They went sober.

I think sobriety changed a lot of scenes.

oh hey its this thread again

daylight, Ryan's the gift that keeps on giving.

R. Kelly makes Ryan look good.

SNL is gonna have a field day with this interview.

After watching a little of an interview with him I’m pretty convinced he’s done a lot worse than what he’s being accused of.

https://twitter.com/numbersmuncher/status/1103295540454928384?s=21

he's a narcissist, arrogant, refers to himself in the 3rd person, and lives in Trump tower. just like Donnie.

maybe they can share a cell.

Didn't Reaper get a called out by Phil for something?

He reminded me of Brett Kavanaugh in that interview
