Circles Around The Sun Cancel Two Shows After An Immediate Family Member Tests Positive for COVID-19

Circles Around The Sun have canceled two upcoming shows in New York State, due to COVID exposure.

The band will no longer perform on Aug. 10 at NYC’s Bowery Ballroom or on Aug. 12 at the Catskill Jubilee Festival.

Wrote the band, “It’s just an enormous bummer and it breaks our hearts to see the current resurgence of Covid. Unfortunately, someone in the immediate family of a band member, who is vaccinated, has tested positive for Covid and we can no longer travel to NY. We want nothing more than to be playing shows right now. Having to cancel after all we have been through the last few years just feels awful. Nonetheless, we feel like we’re making the right decision on behalf of both the band and our fans’ health and safety.”

Circles Around The Sun also recently announced a personnel change, swapping out guitarist Scott Metzger for John Lee Shannon.

As many will recall, the band was originated by the late Neal Casal, who died in August 2019.

Widespread Panic Extend COVID-19 Vaccination / Negative Test Requirement Through Austin Run

In the wake of Jazz Fest’s cancellation, many bands and their fans have been considering their role in the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

And now, for the second run in a row, Widespread Panic will require proof of a COVID-19 vaccination or proof of a negative COVID-19 test (within 48 hours of show) for entry. Masks will also be required for entry.

As previously stated, a similar rule applied to Widespread Panic’s Aug. 6-8 stand in Asheville, NC and it will now continue on through their Aug. 13-15 run in Austin, Texas.

“All attendees of this event must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 OR have tested negative for COVID-19 within 48 hours of attending the event(s),” reads a statement by the band. “In attending the event you certify and attest that you and all individuals in your party attending the event: Are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (at least two weeks after final dose) and provide proof of vaccination; i.e. original vaccination card, copy of vaccination card, picture of vaccination card OR Will take a COVID-19 diagnostic test (PCR or antigen) within 48 hours of each event and before entry to the facility and will provide proof of negative result to security prior to entry into the facility. DO NOT attend the event and request a refund if you have recently been exposed to a confirmed COVID-19 case or are exhibiting symptoms consistent with COVID-19 in the 48 hour period prior to the event.”

Umphrey’s McGee Will Require Proof of Vaccination / Negative COVID Test for Upcoming Milwaukee and Minneapolis Shows

Following bands like Widespread Panic and Phil Lesh & Friends, Umphrey’s McGee are the latest band in the jam scene to take a proactive approach to the recent Delta Variant/COVID-19 resurgence and require proof of vaccination or a negative test within 72 hours of their upcoming shows.

The new policy will apply to UM’s Aug. 13 gig at The Riverside Theater in Milwaukee and their Aug. 14 show at First Ave. in Minneapolis.

“Masks are highly encourages and will be word by all venue and artist staff,” reads an official announcement. “It has been both an incredible and cathartic experience to play live music for you all again, and we all need to do everything possible to ensure that it can continue.”

In July, Umphrey’s McGee released their newest studio project, You Walked Up Shaking In Your Boots But You Stood Tall And Left A Raging Bull.

The Sea Hear Now festival in Asbury Park, NJ has also implemented a proof of vaccination/negative COVID test within 72 hrs for all attendees, staff and performers for this year's festival They have also mandated masks in all inside areas with no exceptions. I'm particularly pleased with this one.

>>.and so it begins, sigh....

While sad news it's the right news.   This thing is raging right now and throw in Sturgis and a few new hot spots in states that aren't in bad condition and this is thing is ripe for an explosion.   Looking at trends, I think this peak will be higher than the biggest one we had.  Be safe and careful folks.

Meanwhile, Phish keeps throwing caution to the wind.

Going to see Blackberry Smoke and the Allman Betts Band tonight in Jacksonville, Florida.   No proof of vaccine entry requirements allowed per Governor's order.

At least it will be an open air venue.

Right after my post above, Bonnaroo announced a proof of vaccination/COVID requirement for entry to The Farm.

Keep 'em coming, everyone.

p.s. I'm pretty confident that Phish will align their policies to a proof of vaccination/negative covid test requirement very soon.

Going to see Blackberry Smoke and the Allman Betts Band tonight in Jacksonville, Florida.   No proof of vaccine entry requirements allowed per Governor's order.

Tonight may be too soon for this to change but the litigation over the Florida Governor's order is going crazy right now. Quite a few flip flops in Federal courts and it show up at the U.S. Supreme Court very shortly.

^^^ Mask up, Portland Ken!

Bonnaroo 2021 Will Require COVID-19 Vaccination or Negative Test for Entry

The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival – which hosted 80,000 people in 2019 – will now require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test before its 2021 celebration, scheduled for Sept. 2-5, 2021.

“The safety of our patrons and staff is our number one priority. As such a full COVID-19 vaccination or negative COVID-19 test will be required to attend Bonnaroo 2021,” reads an official announcement. “Bonnaroo strongly encourages vaccination. The last day to receive the second shot of Moderna or Pfizer, or a single dose of Johnson and Johnson is Thursday, August 19th. For patrons who are not fully vaccinated, a negative COVID-19 test result must be obtained within 72 hours (3 days) of first entering Centeroo. Bonnaroo requests that unvaccinated individuals wear a mask at all times while on The Farm.”

Last year, Bonnaroo was canceled due to the pandemic, with officials writing in June of 2020, “Our annual time together on the Farm is nothing short of magical, but out of an abundance of caution and for the health and safety of all Bonnaroovians, artists, staff, partners and our community, this is a necessary reality,” read a statement from the festival. Tool, Lizzo and Tame Impala were set to headline the festival.

The 2021 lineup rolled over many of the previous year’s performers; now it will boast Lizzo, Tame Impala, Foo Fighters, Lana Del Rey, Megan Thee Stallion, My Morning Jacket, Tyler The Creator, The Disco Biscuits, Goose and more.

Can we refer to Allman Betts Band as ABB?

or is that some kind of blasphemy?

have fun ken

I'm not sure that Blackberry Smoke and The Allman Betts Band are worth dieing for.

Looks like my computer just contracted the new COVID-WTF variant.

I will* have 2 Billy Strings Friday Fox Oakland floor tix for sale, cheap. Indoors show just doesn't make sense with this surge.

*ticketbastard not making the available for transfer yet

I might be interested in those.

Can we refer to Allman Betts Band as ABB? or is that some kind of blasphemy?

I vote blasphemy

>>>ticketbastard not making the available for transfer yet<<<

Not exactly sure what that means, but as always, Ticketmaster never makes transfer, refund or pricing decisions. They just move the tix and do what the promoters tell them to do.

If you're hoping for a refund offer for the Stings shows, that will have to come from APE.

And despite the fact that the APE people are on the more decent side of the promoter spectrum, they're still a professional promoter, so I wouldn't count on that.

Cancel Billy Strings and his super spreader events!

> I will* have 2 Billy Strings Friday Fox Oakland floor tix for sale

I put my Billy Strings in LA (indoors) tickets up for sale earlier today. Hoping to still make it up for JRAD at the Frost in October.

I assume that they will make the show Vax or proof og negative test required which may come with a refund option. That's what Panic and other bands have put into place.

I'm going to the Covid Mountain Jubilee this weekend.  Bummed about Cancels Around the Sun. One of the bands I was looking forward to.

The Fox show will require  proof of vaccination and the County will require that  all indoor concert goers to be masked. The problem is, people cheat with the vaccine cards and  doubtful anyone will be enforcing any mask mandates. And the spread is happening INDOORS, especially when it's crowded and people are unmasked. Pass.

>Not exactly sure what that means

virtual tickets  and it they don't  on the app until about a week before the show, so trying to unload the tickets now isn't an option. I don't think I'll have any problem selling  them later. But I'd rather they cancel the show and/or move it to an nice outdoor venue.

The problem is, people cheat with the vaccine cards

Nobody is really sure how common that will be yet. I do know in NJ that the promoters have some sort of plan in effect for figuring out if a vaccination record is phony. At least here, being caught with bogus health certificates can have the person presenting them end up in jail for up to 2 years. Hopefully they venues/performers will go hard and make a few examples for everyone to see.

the fake cards are definitely a problem.  As  a volunteer usher at the Frost I was told that my main  job will be to check ID's to see that they match the Vaccination cards. As if that's going to stop the cheats. Not to check if the card is a fraud, just that the name on the ID matches what's on the piece of paper.

https://apnews.com/article/coronavirus-education-fake-vaccination-cards-...

https://www.wsj.com/articles/fake-covid-vaccination-cards-are-on-the-ris...

^

Just to be clear, I wasn't saying that the fake cards being offered for sale isn't a problem. What remains to be seen is how many people actually will be using those cards in order to circumvent entry procedures. I'm not sure how many people are actually buying them for that purpose. Seems like those offering them are trying for the cheap score. They know that if they don't send them or produce cheap, obvious fakes that the likelihood of the scammed pressing charges are low.

I know 2 vaccinated people who went to a recent Gorge concert and caught Delta. One said they can't imagine what it would have been like not being vaccinated, and the other is very sick.

IT  AIN'T OVER FOLKS!

COOL YOU JETS!

Phish should totally cover National Lampoon's Lemmings album for their Halloween "costume".

Blackberry Smoke got canceled right before they were to hit the stage.  The Allman kids band was pretty good and the venue was about 20% capacity and totally socially distant.  We went up into the rafters and had a whole section to ourselves with a view of the Jacksonville skyline.

Never been to a show where it was cancelled mid-show.

Asked a yellow shirt what happened and she said it was some health issue.  My bet it was the Covid.

Yep.  It was the Covid.  Fuck this shit.

Who thought it would be so difficult  to reach herd immunity with a free,  safe and effective vaccine readily available?!

From Dem Robert Reich:  "COVID cases are surging so much in Florida now that if Florida was a separate country, the US would ban travel from it."

Hope you're leaving soon, Portland Ken!

Phish didn't go to Florida.

The Blackberry Smoke show was at a venue called "Dailey's Place," which is inside the Everbank Field complex (fka "Gator Bowl") in Jacksonville..  Been to the stadium many times from camping out there as Boy Scouts to seeing the Jags whenever I am back in Florida to visit the folks and they are playing.  Neat little 5,000 person venue near the south end zone and there was hardly anyone there (20% max). We had the run of the rafters with whole empty sections, fresh air, and a view of the Jacksonville skyline:

BBS 11.jpg

Duval bitches!

BBS III.jpg

The Allman Betts Oakley boys put on a great show.  I was impressed.  They did about five originals and Blue Sky and Dreams.  The Blue Sky was one of the best I have ever heard and danced my ass off.

BBS I.jpg.

But just before Blackberry Smoke was to go on, there was an announcement that the show had been canceled.   Thought it was a joke at first, but then the house lights and music came on and yellow shirts started shooing everyone out.

>>>Who thought it would be so difficult to reach herd immunity with a free, safe and effective vaccine readily available?!

There's the obvious and the oblivious.

Did they refund you half the ticket price, Ken?

We have tix to an outdoor DeadCo show next month, and we're strongly considering blowing it off. The wook flu is one thing, and the wook Rona is a whole other thing. Even though it's outdoors, very close contact with too many people from all over the country is inevitable.

I like what Chaka Kahn has done with the Jags. That venue looks great and can also be used on game day for pregame shows. Bucs will win one more ship and then Myer will lead the Jags to the Title after that.

>>>>Did they refund you half the ticket price

Supposedly getting a full refund.

JRAD news

>

Due to the recent COVID-19 Delta variant surge, we’ve decided to postpone our upcoming indoor shows at The Sylvee in Madison, WI & at The Pageant in St. Louis, MO until March 18-20, 2022. After much consideration and discussion, we believe it’s in the best interest of our fans, band and crew to err on the side of safety and caution at this time.

Unfortunately, we will also be cancelling our shows on Thu, Aug 26 at GLC Live at 20 Monroe in Grand Rapids, MI and on Fri & Sat, Oct 15 & 16 at Mardi Gras World Ballroom in New Orleans, LA.  For Grand Rapids and both New Orleans shows, refunds will be automatically issued to all ticket buyers.

For Madison and St. Louis, there will be a 30 day window for anyone who would like refunds (exact details to come). Otherwise, purchased tickets will once again be good for the rescheduled dates. Please note, Jon Shaw will now be playing bass on the rescheduled dates in Madison & St. Louis.

As of now, we will continue playing shows with the additional safety precautions listed below. As the year progresses, we will make decisions based on the best data available with the health and safety of ourselves and our fans in mind.

We apologize for the bad news and deeply appreciate your understanding.

Wishing you all love and health,

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead
2021 COVID Protocol

Our current protocol for all staff, artists and our audience requires proof of having been fully vaccinated at least 2 weeks ahead of the event, OR a negative PCR test within 48 hours of the event.  This includes all patrons aged 12 and over.  The use of masks is highly encouraged.

These protocols were crafted using the latest health recommendations from government and industry experts, with cities and venues in mind. If health updates for the location of our shows require a revision to our protocols, we ask that you be patient and understanding, as your health and welfare are our primary goal.

Please note, this policy will commence on August 19, 2021 starting with our show in Cleveland, OH.

If you're coming to LOCKN’ Farm this weekend, be smart, be safe and take care of each other.

New Haven just restarted an indoor mask mandate. All Ct's big citys have.

The shit is hitting the fan again here, and we're at 64% fully vax rate. 71% have at least 1 dose.

Westville Music Bowl is outdoors but I'm getting a bad feeling regarding that Crimson Zappa show. Would suck if it's canceled, I hear this is Crimson's last US tour, but that  fucking covid's the last thing I need on top of Lyme.

I got tickets for Willie next month in a small theater. Might have to look into a refund soon unless he cancels it first.

@AMSaddler

Would a place give a refund over Covid concerns??

@doolittle

I would imagine that most venues would not give a refund with "concerns" being the only reason. I also think that some venues might refund the ticket, but at their discretion. It can't hurt to ask. If it is required to have proof of vaccination/negative covid test and you, for whatever reason can't comply, the a venue probably has to refund your ticket since it is a condition that wasn't present when you purchased the ticket. Hope that helps.

>>>>We have tix to an outdoor DeadCo show next month

Are you hoping to do Mannsfield 9/2?  Got my tix.

And now, Dead & Co.

*Ticket holders must provide proof of full vaccination or negative COVID-19 diagnostic test within 48-hours prior to entry, except where prohibited by law. Children under the age of 12 may attend the concert if they provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 48 hours of the show. No Pit access for children under 12 or anyone without proof of vaccination.

Just canceled my hotel room at Harrah's for the Phish South Lake shows. Still might go back and forth for the shows but not stepping foot in that Covid casino swamp. Such a bummer. Fuck the anti vaxers it didn't have to be this way.

Anyone else feel that the right response to those who and anti-vax and anti-mask is to punch them in the face? I know I feel like that. I've passed on a number of jobs already that don't have vax/negative test/mask rules. After last year of no new income streams, this sucks.

Infected Cheese

Phish just announced new protocols for the Gorge forward.

Starting with Phish's shows at The Gorge, all ticket holders to Phish's summer and fall tourdates* must provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 or proof of a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 48 hours prior to when doors open for each show. Ticket holders using a negative test for entry will not need to get subsequent tests if they are attending multiple shows at the same venue.

Children under the age of 12 may attend the concert if they provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 48 hours prior to when doors open.

More details will be emailed to ticket holders, and venue websites will be updated in the coming days. We strongly recommend that you wear a mask at Phish shows when social distancing isn't possible. Thanks for continuing to do your part and stay safe!

* Specific guidelines for Phish's shows in Stateline, NV, Eugene OR and Las Vegas, NV will be announced shortly.

^^^^^My money is on Michael Travis

Sucks for SCI and their fans.  Hope they get through it ok.

Hats off to the promoter, Bowery Presents. Effective immediately all of their concerts have a proof of full vaccination/proof of negative covid test within 72 hrs. This policy changes on Oct 1st to proof of full vaccination ONLY. Glad to see a promoter have the balls to do what is right.

This is where I stand on the whole thing right now. Heading back under my rock.

The vaccine is as good as vaccines get against dying and ending up in the hospital but the big question is still long Covid which we don't understand at all at this point. Vaccine effectiveness against getting Covid with Delta is somewhere between 40% and 80%. Still very good at stopping hospitalizations and death +95%. I don't think there is any question that it is considerably less effective against Delta than what it was originally designed for. It looks like about 33% of people who get any kind of Covid have long haul symptoms, and it doesn't look like that is any different for the vaccinated. These stats are all far from perfect and wouldn't hold up in the real world of peer reviewed double blind studies. Like always with a new virus we don't know what we don't know. This could all change, but right now this is where things are trending.

Freight & Salvage cancelled all shows until 9/9, including the David Nelson shows scheduled for 8/27-28.

What's the update on the September Colorado Front Range Venues?

All 3 of the Phil shows are outdoors, Walstib, but haven't seen anything specific for these shows yet.

Ogden and Bluebird Theaters in Denver just announced Vax/neg-test requirements.

Also, when will Phil anounce who's in the band?

NYC is changing it's policy for all indoor venues on Aug 16th To enter a venue an attendee will have to one of the following:

NYS Excelsior Pass

NYC Covid Safe App

Physical CDC Vaccination Card

Physical NYC Vaccination Record

If you don't use the approved apps or bring the physical copy of your vaccination, you will not be allowed to enter the venue. A photo of your vaccination record on your cell phone will not be accepted unless used with the above apps. Venues/Promoters will be offering limited refunds and specific instructions for those refunds are coming in the next few days. If you don't have one of the above, or a valid medical or religious exemption, and you show up at the venue, no refund will be given.

Levon Helm Studios has just instituted a proof of vaccination only protocol effective mediately. The same apps as in the above post or physical copy of vaccination record. No negative covid test results allowed. They are also mandating masks. .

Is the Central Park concert still on?

Is the Central Park concert still on?

It is but the protocols for entry (if you get a ticket, that is) will be announced soon.

Hartford. I have a soft spot for Great Woods and dislike Xfinity Pavilion, but I don't have to burn vacation days for the latter.

"religious exemption"???   WTF?

The only shows that were on my radar, David, Eric, and Suzy at the F&S.

Sorry you won't be able to see the F&S show, Mark.

I'm not an advocate, but I think there's always been an exemption for 7th Day Adventists, and I don't know what others. It's a chink in the armor of a vaccinated world.

imagine this was the attitude with the polio vaccine

got tested yesterday- negative

just in case, as I prob went to 12 shows in the ;ast 2 weeks

yes, I am exhausted - understatement...

and zero personal insults!

F&S is "rescheduled"

bye

Same.

I would like to see Live Nation step up with the same protocol as AEG and Bowery Presents but I'm not holding my breath.

It's a bit confounding to me that vaccinated folks are engaging in risky enough contact that they feel the need to get tested afterwards.

not directed at anyone here. It's actually (separate from the zone) something I've been seeing/hearing of and strikes me as a strange course of action?

isn't throttling down your activities easier than the on/off anxiety of am I getting sick/transmitting/etc because I went to X, or hung out with Y & Z?

and if positive, then what? Like what is the purpose?

seems sort of like putting the rubber part on after the sex part already went down

7th Day Adventists,

these folks are pretty wild. when i was 15 or 16 my parents sent me to a boarding school run by a bunch of adventists. they were open about being christian, but did not publicize all of their crazy beleifs.

this was the first time id been exposed to the NWO/mark of the beast conspiracies we see so much of today in regards to vaccines. they gave us these comic book type things that described how the US governement was going to team up with the catholic church, and force sunday worship thru a globalist police state, and the adventists would go up to the mountians and live in caves until jesus came back.

it was pretty wild. ended up getting shut down by cps.

Bss,

I’m vaccinated and just attended three outdoor shows.

A good friend of mine just got through nine treatments of chemo and he invited me to a suite at Citizens Bank Park for the Dead and Company show next weekend.

I’m getting tested Monday as a precaution. No anxiety here. If positive I’ll bail.

The vaccine is the rubber.

Just saw that lollapalooza had just over 200 positive tests from over 300,000 attendees. So not a super spreader event.

The Delta R0 is between six and seven, those 200x6, x6 etc. could make lollapalooza responsible for thousands of new Covid cases.

>> and if positive, then what? Like what is the purpose? <<

My work takes me into other people's homes. If I've been exposed I need to know if I'm a carrier.

Thanks, seems reasonable

Widespread just postponed this weekend's Austin shows for the fifth time. JB got the 'rona.

So, who's gonna blink @ DeadCo, Inc. ?

Be careful. My friend's significant other is a local hospital emergency staff and hospitals from neighboring states are calling and asking if they have room in their ICUs. Good luck!!! No vacancy signs are going up quickly.

While I wouldn't recommend going since no new protocols are in place for the Atlantic City Phish shows, I now know of about 20 tickets available at fire sale prices. I'm sure there are plenty out there for free, too.

SCI

Out of an abundance of caution, we have cancelled our two indoor shows at Brooklyn Bowl Nashville on August 24 & 25. With these shows being indoors, we believe it is in the best interest of our fans, band, and crew to err on the side of safety at this time.

Our two shows at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater in Wilmington have now been rescheduled to Monday & Tuesday, August 23 & 24. Tickets purchased for August 17 will be honored on Monday, August 23 and tickets purchased for August 18 will be honored on Tuesday, August 24. No exchange necessary. If you are unable to attend the rescheduled dates, refunds will be available at point of purchase.

All other August tour dates are currently scheduled as planned, but subject to change. Thank you for your support and understanding.

Summer Camp, the 3 day joint festival thrown by moe. and Umphrey's McGee have canceled all late night indoors shows held during the festival. All tickets are being automatically refunded.

Live Nation events are also switching to a proof of vaccination only protocol for inside and outside events. Previously they were letting the performers set the guidelines. Not anymore.

Although it doesn't effect most concert goers, many bands have instituted a tight bubble on backstage access. Quite a few have instituted and if you aren't working and aren't a spouse or significant other you have no access. That includes other family members besides spouse/significant other. No children, no friends, etc.

Yep. One infected person back stage, and the whole tour could be in jeopardy.  We will see how many bands make it though their entire tour.

As a heads up for some, be careful talking about going to shows with your employers. I now know of 3 people who have or are attending concerts recently and their employers notified them that they have to take an unpaid quarantine vacation and be tested before they can return to work.

Yep. One infected person back stage, and the whole tour could be in jeopardy.  We will see how many bands make it though their entire tour.

Indeed. This is exactly what has already happened with some of the tours that have been cancelled mid-tour.

Aren't Rastafarians anti-vaxxers too?  I recall that Bob Marley's cancer was originally diagnosed as being contained to one of his toes.  The doctors recommended amputation.  He refused because he didn't believe in having his body cut on.  Within 3 years, the cancer metastasized and spread to his brain, which killed him.  Wonder how all the Rastas living up in the hills are faring with the Rona?

 Mono County! It's infectious!

The Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater is pleased to welcome a complete 2021 season with a wide array of programming in one of the nation’s most scenic outdoor venues.

As permitted by current State of Colorado and Eagle County guidelines, the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater is operating at up-to-100% capacity, without any social distancing or mask requirements*. If you are not comfortable with this approach, although we will miss your presence, we ask you to consider not attending at this time.

*Exceptions: Our venue often hosts visiting productions, artists, or third-party event organizers who may elect to follow increased health and safety protocols. The Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater venue and staff respect and will comply with these requests.

One would think so but when I skied with him during a presser at the World Cup at Beaver Creek/Vail, he wasn't too shabby on the boards. Not ski film good but better than most.

Good one Dave. I was there for Dylan in 2000 but didn't fall.....had I thought of it I might have, just for fun.

I read the "tour bubble" paperwork for the Wolf Bros. shows in Colorado. They were very strict about the

number of people, what you could and couldn't do on your time off during the shows, who could be where side-stage, etc....

I can't imagine it with a big tour like DeadCo, but I'm sure they are going to be as tight and controlled about it as they possibly

can be.

You went skiing with President Oatmeal (that's what Gil Scott-Heron used to call Gerald Ford)?

Yes I did, Herbal Dave. Him, 3 Secret Service agents and 4 other members of the press. We got to cut the lift line. lol

That's great!  Did he sing the Michigan fight song?

Actually I think he was humming Ripple going down the slope.

Colorado Health and Environment list SCI Red Rocks as an outbreak source. I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever go to another big show.

From Alejandro Escovedo:

Dear Friends
It pains me to write this letter. On March 12,2020 my band and I received word that our tour was to be postponed until further notice due to the Covid pandemic, I remember that day vividly. We had been rehearsing and preparing to tour behind the release of La Cruzada, the Spanish version of The Crossing, Don Antonio was to play guitar on that tour but was detained because of the outbreak of Covid in Italy. Upon being informed that the tour was postponed we decided to phone a friend in Milan to hear what effect the virus was having on their lives, what he told us was frightening and truly drove home the severity and danger of contracting the virus. We said goodbye without shaking hands or abrazos, we were in shock from the news from Italy.

That was roughly 17 months ago. I have not played a show since Febuary 2020. When news of a vaccine was announced I like many of us began to feel a sense that we might get back to a safe and healthy world in which we might gather and celebrate music once again. I wanted nothing more than to return to doing what I’ve been doing for the last 45 years which is singing songs playing with good friends and rocking to the beat of the drums. With the delta variant rearing its ugly head I’ve come to a very difficult decision and that is that I am not touring this year and will focus on writing my memoir, writing new songs and working on a screenplay based on The Crossing. I feel I have a responsibility to not put you the audience in danger, if even one of you became ill as a result of attending my shows it would bear heavy on my soul. I’ve always felt rock n roll was a contact sport played in sweaty little clubs with loud guitars and the abandon that comes from the freedom and buzz of energy blasting from the stage until the wee hours of the morning. Until we can share those moments again without fear I’ll be listening to the birds sing with Nancy and the dogs. Please be safe and love one another.

the dreaded triple-post

With the cancellation of St Louis, SCI just ruined a friend's 50th birthday show and trip.

Surprisingly, he is taking it in stride, as there is a Leftover Salmon show in Gunnison still in play for the new game "which of my favorite touring artists are left standing"?

^^^Saw your friend at Jerry's Birthday Bash and he was stoked about St. Louis.  Bummer.

I have to wonder if the general concert going demographic really has an idea what is at stake here. I've been in contact with a number of people within the industry and they are really, really scared that this is the end of touring as we know it. A large number of bands realize that their current tours are all that stands between them and bankruptcy. They don't want to tour but there is no more money unless they finish out tours that were booked previously to the rise of the Delta variant. If they pull out now, not only do they still have to pay their contract workers, they forfeit their advance money AND have to pay out contractual penalties so they will end up in worse shape than if they didn't start a tour in the first place. Tough situation for a lot of people. One of the financial guys I know said that if everyone doesn't get vaccinated and strict entry protocols aren't enacted for everyone, at least 50% of the performers that are out there will have to leave the business and do something else for a living.

I've gotten to the point that if a person who is intending on getting vaccinated complains that they are being discriminated against, I am likely to not say anything, punch them in the face and then liberally use sanitizer and water to remove the blood on my hands.

>>>the end of touring as we know it.

If the pandemic don't get 'em, then the climate change will (eventually).  :(

It does seem serious and precarious, particularly as this Delta wave continues building momentum and intensity. Even if the bands can safely maintain their bubbles (questionable), what about the fans? As a society, we can't even seem to agree on masks and other simple protocols and courtesies in public.

If Mississippi John Hurt, Bukka White, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Sleepy John Estes and many other Blues legends were able to sustain themselves and their art while being forgotten and left for dead from the 1930s to the 1960s, I'm sure the actually gifted artists will find a way to persevere.

^^^ Word

...and the non-gifted artists will just rebrand themselves, boost their presence on social media and pitch products.

ZZ Top was cool last night at the britt. Posted up on the lawn with a good ten foot buffer in all directions, and the band played what was basically a canned greatest hits medley. The music was tight and so were my nerves. Way too many unmasked people mulling about in way too close of confines so we bailed about ten songs in. Elwood Francis has got to be the luckiest man in rock and roll (at least for this month), thumped hard, and didn't skip a beat. Seemed really nice that his transition wasn't a forced thing. so yeah we checked the block, but no more outings for a while. COVID is just fully running loose down here in the low O. Staff were asking people not eating or drinking to wear their masks, but really that is only minimally effective just from the sense of confrontation (they're volunteers). Overall this was not an event I would say that seemed very COVID aware in a county with like 45% vaccinated and its hospitals overflowing. Stay safe zone

I wonder what the criteria is for "actually gifted" artists??? At least to this poster, pretty much anyone who performs and/or writes songs is gifted. Some I may like more than others and some may have more critical accolades than others but IMO they still have a gift.

Will artists persevere? Of course they will. Will they be able to make a living from that art if the venues close for good, production staff finds jobs that pay to put food on their and their families tables and more than 50% of the audience stays home out of health concerns? Probably not. It used to be that an artist could make a living off of record sales but those days are long gone. People barely buy recordings anymore with most people switched over to streaming. Steaming pays next to nothing. Touring and merchandise pays the bills and, if you are lucky, having a song picked up for a commercial/tv show/movie you hit the jackpot. Get hooked up with one of those that has some legs and you make more money than all of your music sales and touring revenue.

Get vaccinated and wear a mask if you want to see the live music world continue. If you don't do that than you are helping the demise of live music.

8-18-21

Lots is going on in our world right now. I find myself wondering whether Farmaid will be safe for everyone with the Covid pandemic surging. I worry about that. I don’t want to let anybody down, but still can’t shake the feeling that it might not be safe for everyone. I worry about audiences coming together in these times. The show is sold out.

All you people who can’t go to a concert because you still don’t feel safe, I stand with you. I don’t want you to see me playing and think it’s safe now. I don’t want to play until you feel safe, and it is indeed, safe.

My soul tells me it would be wrong to risk having anyone die because they wanted to hear music and be with friends.

No matter where you are. I am with you. Do what you must, but think it through. We will be back. There is much work to do together.

Since we know vaccinated people can catch and spread Covid, I worry about the children who could become infected after Farmaid, just by being with someone, maybe a parent, who caught the virus at Farmaid and didn't know it. There are already too many children in hospitals.

While I respect Willie, John and Dave's decisions to stick with it and play, I am not of the same mind. It is a tough call.

As time passes, I hope the path ahead will become clear. be well love ny

Figured this would be the case.  Being there, not watching a stream, is a big part of the HSB experience.

Surprised to see no Dave Alvin participation listed, unless he's sitting in with the Hardly Strictly Lesbian Band.

Howdy Festivarians,
We are excited to welcome you! Cooler evenings and shorter days are around the corner, and the Ranch is stunning as fall begins to descend upon the Planet.
While navigating these upcoming shows, it is important for us to acknowledge the continued spread of Covid-19 and the growing threat of the Delta variant.
The health and safety of Festivarians, staff, and artists is of the utmost importance to us. As such, proof of full vaccination or a negative Covid test* will be required to attend all of our 2021 events moving forward.
*Negative test must be within 48 hours of the event date.                                                                                                                                                  We strongly encourage all guests to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Live music is back, but it is evolving daily to remain feasible in this changing landscape. If we've learned anything by now, it's how resilient we are, and we're grateful for that.

In the spirit of Sustainable Festivation, and with the hopes of continuing our distribution of musical medicine, we are committed to the production of safe, Covid-free events.

Thanks for your understanding and support in what is proving to be a heck of a communication conundrum. We will be in touch soon with more information on logistics.

We appreciate you!

Love,
The Folks on Planet Bluegrass

Does 0 markers mean negative?

Nevermind. Results back today. Negative.

Congrats, Mark. I thought 0 markers might be 'not detectable'.

I didn't know. Could also have been test malfunction. Relieved.

I'm hearing that some artists are planning on not playing any state that are banning the use of masks and using proof of vaccination as a requirement for the audience to attend a show. This shit show is far from over.

Widespread Panic Postpone New York City Shows to January 2022

Widespread Panic have announced they will not be performing their run of shows at New York City’s Beacon Theatre on Sept. 16 through 20. The band has rescheduled the shows for Jan. 13 through 17, 2022. Tickets will be honored based on the day of the week the show was previously scheduled.

This run of shows postponement follows Widespread Panic’s announcement that their Napa, Calif. run won’t take place until the same weekend a full year later.

The cancelation of shows is part of a continued effort by the band to “make Widespread Panic shows safe as possible for everyone involved – from Band Member to audience member, and the unseen many in between,” according to the band’s website.

John Bell announced he had contracted the virus despite being fully vaccinated, on Aug. 13.

Kiss Calls Off Concert After Paul Stanley Tests Positive for COVID:

https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/kiss-calls-off-concert-paul-00175194...

>>>Paul Stanley Tests Positive for COVID

Probably tests positive for a lot of things.  Vibes to the whole KISS family.

Fuck KISS. They "promised" their last show EVER in the US was at the Oakland Coliseum a couple of years ago.

Now they have a Vegas residency.

Fuck them and any band that pulls this shit.

I think with a fully vaccinated Paul Stanley getting infected while band protocols are in effect shows the need for only allowing fully vaccinated people into shows. While there is still a chance of getting covid, not being around those who will almost certainly end up sick and then letting them loose in gen-pop means even those who are careful are getting exposed to higher and higher concentrations of this crap. Get vaccinated!!!

Yep - I agree, Skifurthur...but we can see how that is going.

By the way, Fuck KISS is right - they suck. I have seen them once only because their longtime promotor is/was a family friend but this thread was more broadly regarding any/all concert-covid issues so I offered some info. I think Cher is still on a never-ending farewell tour as wellif we are gonna head down that rabbit hole.

Then fuck the Rolling Stones too.   Way back in the early 80's (81  or 82) I saw them at the Hampton Coliseum Arena.   It was supposed to be their last US tour.

Saw KISS twice.  First time was without makeup and they were just a shitty hard rock band.   Second time was with makeup and although they played the same crappy cock rock songs, it was nevertheless the Greatest Show on Earth.   They pulled out every trick and gimmick in the book and it was pure entertainment from start to finish.  Loud as all fuck and thought the fire marshal would stop the show at any minute.

What a shocker!

From World Cafe Live;

Dear WCL fans,

We appreciate that you are just as excited as we are to get back to in-person events! As our September 29th reopening approaches, we have an important update regarding our venue COVID Policy. Although there is not currently a one-size-fits-all solution, we are implementing precautions we feel keep everyone as safe as possible while still allowing us to experience live music together. Please read below to be prepared as you make plans to join us this fall.

Until further notice, all guests will be required to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination for entry to World Cafe Live. Negative tests will not be accepted at this time. Additionally, guests will be required to wear a face mask throughout the building except while eating or drinking. All WCL staff members will be fully vaccinated and masked as well.

As always, we're committed to providing a safe and comfortable experience for our staff, artists, and guests. We will continue to closely monitor local guidelines and national industry standards as well as stay in contact with other venues around the city.

Of course, the situation is ever-changing and we'll continue to update our policy accordingly. Check back here for more information on what to expect when you visit WCL as our plans develop. We'll also be contacting all ticket holders with current protocol closer to event dates.

Thanks for your patience, support, and understanding as we navigate these ongoing challenges. Your cooperation is essential to ensuring a safe and sustainable return to live music!

See you soon,
World Cafe Live

Expect a number of performers have some major changes in their performance plans within the next week or so. It looks like the EU will be closing their borders to those from or traveling from the USA. I know of a number of bands that are finishing up US tours and were then planned to tour Europe for late summer. Many of those plans will be cancelled now which is a kick in the nuts for those performers as they make a lot more money in Europe at similar sized venues.

Then fuck the Rolling Stones too.   Way back in the early 80's (81  or 82) I saw them at the Hampton Coliseum Arena.   It was supposed to be their last US tour.

The Rolling Stones have never billed anything as a final tour.

I think it was The  Who that billed  asthe the final  tour around 81. To my recollection.

https://101kgb.iheart.com/content/2020-02-07-footage-of-the-day-the-roll...

The Rolling Stones are coming to San Diego and it may be their final tour and YES, they've been saying that since the 1970's.

The Who have final toured at least 2x

How many bands on their final tour and not know it?

The Cult and Afghan Wigs have both just canceled all scheduled shows for 2021. More coming shortly.

Skifurthur is on it! Maybe The Black Crowes tour and others may start to looking like never-ending tours:

https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/black-crowes-reschedule-uk-ireland-1...

Skifurthur is on it!

Thanks but I wish I didn't have to be. Unfortunately, at least in these trying times, my fortune is tied to touring artists. Although I would never do it, my brain is at the point that I am ready to find those who aren't vaxed, knock them out and jab them.

Sorry - I meant no harm but am impressed with your timely "pre"-info, as unfortunately precarious the overall situation may be.

No worries. No harm done. It's a mess out there and I know many are trying to make plans for shows that may or may not happen. Just trying to help.

Maplewoodstock, my favorite small festival, has been postponed until Jully 2022.

Now Gene Simmons of Kiss has joined Paul Stanley with covid. Dates being postponed with new dates to follow.

Not covid related but Bonnaroo has been cancelled.

Neko Case canceled the rest of her current tour due to someone within her touring entourage testing positive for covid. All performers and crew are fully vaccinated.

Lucinda Williams has canceled her CO shows.

Woz is right, the Stones have never done that.

The media probably speculated that at the time, but they've never said it.

In fact Jagger has made fun of that question at press conferences.

"Will this be your final tour?"

Balls.

The Doobie Brothers Postpone Upcoming Tour Dates Due to COVID-19 Concerns

The Doobie Brothers announced the postponement of four shows of their tour due to a member of the tour personnel testing positive with COVID-19. The shows that have been rescheduled were set to take place in Clarkston, Minn., Burgettstown, Penn. and Toledo, Ohio and Cincinnati. The new dates have yet to be announced.

“Out of an abundance of caution, The Doobie Brothers will postpone their four upcoming shows as a member of the touring personnel has tested positive with COVID-19 despite health and safety precautions in place,” the band wrote on social media.

The band shared that their tour will start again on Sept. 9 at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The Doobie Brothers encourage fans to hold onto their tickets for the rescheduled dates for The Doobie Brothers’ 50th Anniversary Tour, which will feature special guests including Michael McDonald, Pat Simmons, Tom Johnston and John McFee.

The tour was originally scheduled for 2020.

The Umphreys McGee shows in CA were just canceled, including TXR.

"We’re saddened to share the news that due to Covid within the Umphrey’s team, the upcoming shows scheduled in California, Texas & Oklahoma are being canceled. All ticket purchasers will receive a full refund for tickets at the point of purchase.

We were eagerly looking forward to the shows and despite our best efforts to keep everyone healthy, we have to do what's right. We hope to return to these cities sometime in 2022.

Onward & upward."

So, there is a positive......

^^^^ I like your sense of humor, Mark D!  (and agree, btw)

Steel Pulse tour - canceled.

I didn't find this out until about an hour before I was going to leave to go listen outside the venue.

Seems that some of the  bands know that they've got Covid because they're being tested regularly

Wondering if most of the venues now require the performers to provide proof of negative test and Covid vaccine when they're asking the same for the patrons? Does anyone at the venue actually check?

Oddly enough, at my volunteer ushering job where I've been assigned to  check patron's vaccinations records, I was never asked to show proof of vaccination for myself. So just guessing that the performers and their crew aren't asked by the venue either. I would think that any touring act, if they started testing all of the performers and crews would find at least a couple of positive Covid tests..

 'don't ask, don't tell' ?

The "Yellow Jackets" checking tickets weren't even wearing face masks, and I'm guessing they weren't required to show proof of vaccination to anyone either. The problem is that these venues need workers, probably afraid to ask and risk losing them.

Two venues that I am familiar with have instituted a proof of vaccination, must wear masks at all times and daily covid testing. Others I am not so sure of.

As for performers, many of them have hired covid protocol managers who do daily testing and make sure all masking protocols are followed as well as overseeing the band and crew when off stage as well.

I would imagine that there is some coordination between venue and performers. At least in Live Nation tours, it's a nuts to bolts operation so for them, I'm sure everyone is on the same page.

^ Have you been asked to show proof of vaccination when working shows?

Although I haven't worked many shows recently, yes, each of them have asked for proof of vaccination. I have a number of shows coming up and all have stressed having hard copies of covid vaccination records. I am scheduled to work the Sea Hear Now festival later this month in Asbury Park, NJ and probably wouldn't if I didn't know how it was set up so I can minimize contact. My client already knows that if the in-place protocols of vaccination proof are lax that I'm bailing. Although only required for inside locations, I plan on being masked inside and outside.

I recently was hired to shoot stills on a video shoot for an artist and the safety person not only checked for vaccination records, he made a copy to keep on file and made sure that everyone who wasn't in front of a camera or eating/drinking in catering was always masked.

I really don't get the problem with following these rather simple protocols with masking. The only problem I have with it is when my sunglasses fog up.

And in show cancellation news, Dispatch have canceled their fall acoustic tour because they feel that having shows puts their audience at risk.

Dashboard Confessional has canceled their fall tour over covid concerns.

Dispatch canceled TXR 11.2 - 3.21.  Oh well.  JGB looks like a good time at TXR 10-15,16,17.21.

Dave Matthews Band -

Hundreds of Dave Matthews Band fans were expecting the whole band to play at their annual Labor Day Weekend shows at The Gorge in Eastern Washington.

Instead, Dave came out with an acoustic guitar and explained the band’s bass player, Stefan Lessard, and drummer, Carter Beauford, had to go into quarantine at the last minute.

“My good friends, Carter and Stefan, have run into the Covid, and because they’re both vaccinated, they’re both perfectly fine,” Dave announced to the crowd.

The band reconfigured their set and got help from opening act Dumpstaphunk.

Just a few hours before Friday’s show began, the band tweeted they would be playing this weekend’s shows in an “alternative format.”

Lettuce Cancel September Tour Dates After Band Member Tests Positive for COVID-19

After an unnamed band member has tested positive for COVID-19, Lettuce have canceled eight upcoming shows.

“Despite all of our best efforts to stay safe during these times, one of our band members has tested positive for COVID-19,” the band wrote alongside the announcement. “…Thank you for your continued support, and we can’t wait to get back out there with you all soon.”

The canceled shows were set to take place in Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Missouri, Michigan and Ohio.

Read the band’s full message below:

Despite all of our best efforts to stay safe during these times, one of our band members has tested positive for COVID-19. Therefore, we are in the unfortunate position to have to pull down the September leg of the tour while he recovers.

We are working on new dates and updates for all of these shows. Stay tuned on official Lettuce & local venue social media channels for further updates.

Thank you for your continued support, and we can’t wait to get back out there with you all soon.

Lettuce

AEG and Live Nation started fire sales on upcoming shows late yesterday. They are, as well as other smaller promoters, are trying to eeck out any money they can in the next few weeks. There is a good chance that the concert industry will be shut down just like it was in the beginning of the covid situation. If you need a fix of live music, I suggest you do it in the next few weeks. It's not looking good for after that.

That's a fairly telling buzzkill, Saddler, but probably in line with reality as COVID begins to more so escalate in northern states with Fall quickly approaching.

Tanya Tucker just canceled her show at the Crystal Ballroom in October.  Had tickets but considering how squeamish I am right now about indoor shows, was thinking about bagging it anyway.

Maybe Tanya is anti-mask?
or maybe her ticket sales were weak in the first place?

"Hey y’all. With my damn hip still healing slowly but surely, and my increasing concerns with covid-19, I've made the heartbreaking decision to cancel all 2021 dates." - Tanya Tucker on the cancelation announcement.

The Mavericks 10/30, 31 Tarrytown Music Hall

Proof of vax and masks.  Refunds if that's a problem for ticket holders.

Wish the Mavericks would play around here.  They are a great band.

Twiddle has canceled the front end of their upcoming tour and will not start the tour on Oct. 19th in Phoenix, AZ due to the uptick in covid cases.

>>>>Twiddle has canceled the front end of their upcoming tour

I had tickets to see them in March 2020 but it didn't happen.   They were supposed to be coming back next month and although I really want to see them, wasn't planning on going because it was an indoor show.  This makes that decision a lot easier.

There are a number of bands that have recently postponed dates or are doing dates without certain members because fully vaccinated members of the tour have tested positive for Covid-19. The common denominator has been they played inside venues without vaccination requirements to enter. It seems that even if the tour personnel doesn't have outside contact with people outside the touring crew, the concentrations of virus is high enough to break through defenses. Food for thought.

Just heard yesterday of two people who went to an outdoor festival a few weeks ago with Vax/Negative test requirement. They are vaccinated, although I have my doubts about one of them,  both got Covid. One of them passed it to their unvaccinated friend who is now dead. And the band keeps playing on,

They say Covid is hear to stay? WTF!

And  sorry for your friend kxela!

Scary stuff!

Sorry to hear that the TXR Fruit Bats show was canceled.

Having been in crowds quite a bit lately I've been concerned about all this.

Most of the events have been proof of vax/test required, but not the baseball & football games.

The Giants games have been less worrisome because I tend to hang away from the mob at those (I'll be there tonight - GO GIANTS!) and my seat at the 49ers games is also more distanced than a normal seat is, but at the end (almost) of the very exciting game on Sunday night, when the 49ers scored the go-ahead TD with 37 seconds to play (DAMN YOU ROGERS!) everyone went absolutely crazy and there was rampant hugging & high-fiving going on everywhere, and the crowd was ROARING.

That type of moment is why I go to the games, it's fucking amazing emotional theater, but these days risk/danger is also involved.

Sigh.

I'm not planning on stopping, because I can't hide forever, but I do plan on getting tested again in a few days. That testing site is going to get to know me pretty well I think.

GO GIANTS!!!

GO 49ERS!!!

GO VAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

^

You can lessen your chance of catching covid simply by wearing a mask at any event. That's what I've been doing both inside and outside.

I do wear a mask... most of the time.

It's on all the time when I'm roaming the concourses, in the bathroom, on the escalators, etc. But not always while watching the game.

(I sort of miss Timpane jumping in here at this point to tell us the masks are useless and we're all idiots. Sort of.)

Just want to say that the guy who died was not someone I personally know, but based on the story I heard he was fucking Haitian hookers with no condom in the 90's kind of stupid when it came to how he handled the current pandemic.

The Trey Anastasio Band is now Trey solo because of Russ Lawton testing positive for Covid. More information on how the rest of his tour will be done, if at all.

Trey solo in not TAB, dates should be rescheduled.

@treyanastasio:

"Starting tonight in Pittsburgh, Jon Fishman will join the Trey Anastasio Band for their remaining fall dates ending this Sunday at Radio City Music Hall. We wish both Russ Lawton and Jennifer Hartswick a fast recovery. Thank you for your continued support."

A TRIBUTE TO KINGS TOUR 2021 - UPDATE
OCTOBER 7, 2021

To our fans in Wisconsin, Missouri, and Iowa – we regret to announce that there has been a confirmed COVID-19 case within the Primus touring party.

The safety of our fans, crew, venue staff and band are our top priority so out of an abundance of caution, we are postponing our shows in Milwaukee, Kansas City, and Cedar Rapids this weekend.  We are working to reschedule the dates and your tickets will be valid at the new dates.

I'd rather see solo trey than TAB but adding fish is a nice bonus.

These bands are dropping like flies.  Surprised it didn't happen more so this summer but maybe the indoor / outdoor piece is the true differentiator.

There still advertising JRAD at The Frost Amphitheater, I see this a good news.
