It's an incredibly popular family event in Gilroy that's been happening for decades, and some nut/s have just shot the place up. 

Apparently it's still an active situation, no clear reports yet on how many or how badly people have been hurt, but it doesn't sound good.

It's a fucked up world.

Legan was also apparently no fan of the festival, a three-day food fair that began in 1979 to celebrate the local garlic industry — and which was in walking distance from his home on a tree-lined street in Gilroy.

“Ayyy garlic festival time,” his post read. “Come get wasted on overpriced s---.”

Below that was a post from someone named futboieden, which read “when you get too wasted and accidentally shoot up the festival.”

Just who futboieden was remained unclear a day after the nation was left grappling with yet another mass shooting. This one claimed the lives of 6-year-old Stephen Romero, a 13-year-old girl, and a man in his 20s. The names of the other two victims were not released.

Investigators also said they were looking into reports that Legan might have had an accomplice but said that had not been confirmed. They said the AK-47-style assault rifle Legan used in the shooting was purchased July 9 in Nevada. >>

Turns out the three armed cops on the scene didn’t shoot him after all, in spite of the credit given. The Gilroy shooter killed himself according to the coroners report.

its very hard to have a debate in this country about gun control and assult weapons when nobody seems willing to talk about the actual reason why most people want those kinds of high powered assault rifles - to protect themselves against the possibility of our government turning into some sort of dictatorship that is trying to control people in any number of classic authoritarian figures.

the one side just asks why anyone would need an assault rifle and the other side responds by making incredibly general statements about the second amendment or protecting themselves from criminals. simple home or personal protection can obviously be achieved with a small handgun or something...id imagine that most folks who own assault rifles are either gun enthusiasts, like to shoot for sport, or they own them "just in case shit hits the fan".

IMO thats the single best argument against gun control and banning assault weapons...an armed populace with civilian militias has a much better chance of standing up to the US government if "shit hits the fan" and things go authoritarian. and then to have that very same government, the very thing you are arming yourself against, place all kinds of controls and regulations around gun ownership, could be seen as a "slippery slope" to removing gun rights and instituting more authoritarian policies in other aspects of american life, probably sounds totally nuts to these kinds of folks.

this isnt really my stance on the issue, personally i think the US governement and military is so well armed, with such fantastical technology, that no amount of assault rifles in american homes or civilian militias could ever, ever stop them in a "shit hit the fan" scenario...so basically gun ownership to protect against government overreach or takeover is futile, and we should institute alot of these gun controls.

but nobody is talking about this - its all centered around hunting, sport, protection from criminals, etc. i dont think we will make much progress in this debate until this point of view is discussed on the mainstream news and in the halls of the house and senate.

because then those people would support the troops and police but still reserve the right to murder them in an efficient manner just in case they’re REALLY REALLY wrong about them.

I feel much of it has to do with the fact we're extremely over prescribed all sorts of medications.  The American people have been sold out to big Pharma... we're bombarded with a dizzying amount of ads for prescriptions.  I don't think it's right that these meds are marketed directly to us as consumers.

Evolution requires people being able to adapt to the environment  they are in.  Change is the nature of the universe. Our ability to survive is dependent on our ability to adopt to change. Evolution is not designed for people to act or live in a predefined way.    The exact opposite seems more likely. That evolution requires an ability to deal with environmental changes or to evolve. 

If only these people who have played too many video games, the people who have been exploited by the pharmaceutical companies, the people who don’t have adequate mental-health care, the people who are fucked by evolutionary causes, the ones who are guided by whatever cult they attend - if only they didn’t have access to guns, missles, bombs, etc, then MAYBE we could slow their roll a bit and figure out why our country has a problem with video games, big pharma, mental health care, evolution, etc - but no other country, from the shit holes of Africa to the desperate in Venezuela and elsewhere, DONT shoot each other up.

In all fairness, the United States, despite being the second most heavily armed country in the world (next to Yemen), ranks only 90th in overall murder rates and about 28th in gun homicide rates.   So, yes, people in many other countries do shoot each other up (and apparently stab, bludgeon, and strangle each other) at much higher rates than Americans do.

That being said, aside from a few exceptions like Russia, Ukraine, and the Philippines, all of the countries with higher murder rates than the US are in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean.  For a wealthy, highly modern society, the United States is anomaly​ and the abundance of firearms (especially handguns) is likely one factor in this phenomena.
