How many birds have died because of your home(s)?

Forums:

Heard, then saw one drop dead after hitting a high window yesterday.   Probably at least 2 per year x 49 years = about 100 birds and this is likely a very low estimate.

Didn't bother to pick up the bird, almost never do ... another animals always figure it out.  So, it's often out of sight out of mind.

You should move into a tent.

Is this some kind of humble brag about your big house?

Definitely not humble brag, but feeling more like Racket suggests.

I killed a bat in my house once. Does that count?

We've just obtained a ruling from the judges:  no, that does not count ... unless said bat was killed by "accident"?

Definitely not killed by accident.

Pretty sure the birds are watching us.  You're totally fucked.

How many bugs have died because of your walking on the ground? I want to know.

Do you include birds that have died in the claws and fangs of the resident felines?

Good question. Our two outdoor cats are murderous beasts, responsible for far more deaths than whatever flight hazard our home represents.

That is what you get when you put the bird feeder inside of the window

None, but one duck was stunned for a minute. He flew into some sliding glass doors on a second story balcony. I've had two birds collide with my car windshield.

Wouldn't a more parallel question be something along the lines of:  how many bugs have died because of you riding in vehicles?

... millions, if not billions

Also have had at least 2 birds collide with windshield.

Yes, the judges have allowed this as well, but have said it's "drifting" slightly ... although have made provisions to include creatures other than birds (rodents, etc) that have died as a result of resident felines.

Our office is all glass with trees next to it and come migration season it can be painful.  There are days where there are birds hitting the windows every 5 minutes.

I call our cat the neighborhood assassin.

no birds yet

but my squirrel's disappeared

??

That's why they are called bird brains.

Speaking of birds and homes, has anyone else had the joy of being woken up at the crack of dawn on a weekend by a woodpecker pecking away at your metal chimney cap?   I used to have a basketball that I would throw up there every time that damn woodpecker would start in on that.
