It’s our honor to invite you to UNBROKEN CHAIN: A Celebration of the Life and Music of Phil Lesh, Hosted by Grahame Lesh & Friends.

Nicey

Gosh this just makes me so sad again. I know we have expected this and Dad set up Grahame well to carry his torch, just seeing those name up there and the stars... I just don't know if I'm ready

Problem...

Dark Star Orchestra in Red Bank, NJ March 14, 15.  And have tickets.  Seems like the better choice IMO.  Next year Graham.

March is not a good month for driving east. Guess we will be hoping for a stream. Huge thanks to Grahame and all those putting this on. I'm sure the party will be as large as Phil's legacy, which is immense...

There should be a Bay Area show.

^^^ exactly my thought ... why hasn't there been a big official Phil Memorial show announced for SF?

How long did Shappy wait before pushing this idea?

If the Philton were still open, I might consider it... don't care for the other lodging options in Port Chester.

There should be a Bay Area show.

Correction: This SHOULD have been a Bay Area show.

Agree with comments above....

Even in memoriam we are still subjected to screechy Grahame Lesh. Hard pass.

Perhaps a real show in the Bay will be announced but I'd imagine Grahame will insert himself into that as well. Not holding out hope at this point.

While we are airing our  grievances, I'll point out the logo "Unbroken Chain " looks broken.  The U and The C look severed.   The A and the O would have been a natural choice.
I'll still try to go to the show...

The ultimate corpse hump.  Need that cash to feed that jones......

Like I told you... what I said..85 in the sky

Love is real have  fun zonners

GLF

ha

will there be a GLQ

I miss Phil...

(I need a sticker for that )

i think it might be time for a bit of a reality check here - GL isn't "inserting" himself into anything - whatever is left of the infrastructure of PLF is mostly in his hands now. im guessing that in the coming months and years, we will see an attempt at fully transitioning PLF into GLF. i will not be on the bus for that portion of the journey, but wish happy travels to those who are.

Does anyone have the presale code, please?!

>>>There should be a Bay Area show<<<

Shows require someone to create them, and for a show like you're all talking about that means a professional promoter. Grahame or his family didn't put these Capitol shows together, Shapiro did, which doesn't surprise me at all since he is the only major league promoter who creates events.

I was half-expecting that here in the BA Another Planet might put something similar on at the Fox Oakland or the BG Civic. They're the remnants of Bill Graham Presents and BGP was the master of creating special one-off events, something that APE occasionally still does. I also thought there was a slight possibility that Goldenvoice might do something at the Warfield, but any type of show like these requires a professional operation to put them on and leaders to have the idea and push it through, and especially these days promoters just don't do that type of thing.

Except for one, the guy everyone loves to throw sand at.

Personally I have very little interest in any P&F type show, since at least for me what made the Phil & Friends concept work was Phil, and unfortunately he won't be at any memorial shows. No matter who plays, without Phil it's just a bunch of musicians who don't usually play together, won't have rehearsed very much, hammering out songs and looking at each other, wondering who takes the first solo and when to stop.

It's still very cool that Shappy is doing this and I'm sure that the shows will be emotional, they're benefiting a very good cause and they'll be a good time, but ultimately Elvis has left the building.

While I certainly hope the shows are strong, emotional and memorable, I think what Lance has stated above has a good chance of turning out to be accurate.

Well said Vance, I couldn't agree more.

> any type of show like these requires a professional operation to put them on...the guy everyone loves to throw sand at

What would keep Shapiro from putting on shows in the Bay Area? Do the venues have exclusive contracts with promoters?

I'm sure the shows will be epic. None of those musicians need practice.  A rehearsal will happen and be helpful though.   Even if it's just a sound check.  Dare I say Phil's ability to play these last few years dwindled while those around him augmented.  However Phil's love of the music and the community remained strong and will be missing.  I'm willing to step up and continue to honor that love without him.

Oh my God thank God this is all I was praying for. Please let it be the rest of the Q

Oh I see that people are named on it but that doesn't mean it's everybody

And I'm so grateful to his son for carrying his legacy on anyone who has something negative to say about this can really fuck right off

Well said Trail, I will be at both. These musicians have all played with Phil enough to know when to start and stop. Love will see us through, see ya there Trail!!   {{{{{{{{{closure or new beginning }}}}}}}}}

I'd rather speculate on guests...  Anders Osbourne, Karl Denson, John Scoffield, Joan Osborne, Chris Robinson, Stanley Jordon, Warren Haynes, Jackie Green, Ryan Adams, Mike Gordon, Trey, Jimmy Herring, Bob Weir...all possibilities

GOOD TIMES WILL BE HAD BY THOSE THAT WANT THEM

Sold out?

IMG_1338.jpeg

I was luck enough to get a pair for Friday on presale and Saturday at the general public release

Good Luck to all that want them but didn't yet get them.

Should be an easy ticket

^^ Maybe Friday

>>>Do the venues have exclusive contracts with promoters?<<<

Almost all do. At least in this region only the arenas and stadiums are free agents, but Shapiro could still easily co-promote with a local promoter if he wanted to, but why would he? He's an east coast guy doing it in his house, which is totally appropriate.

And I didn't mean to rain on anyone's parade. I think it's fine that the shows are happening and I'm sure there will be highlights and that those who go will enjoy them. I was just speaking for myself about what works, and what doesn't work as well for me personally.

So by all means...

Go to the show.

I can see Graham putting something on at the Guild with the usual TXR personnel but nothing bigger than that. A shame, really but gone are the days of SF having a local impresario.

Warren is Not scheduled right now anywhere else  So that's a great thing. It just sucks that shows like this and the Dickey Betts Memorial  sell out so fast and to Bots/ Scalpers especially for folks who WORK during the day and have no access to a computer during these times, Good thing for Nugsnet, as im not paying exorbitant prices as much as I would like to be there. We will see...

Coyotte~

And I didn't mean to rain on anyone's parade.

if other people complaining about music quality, song choice or personnel "rains on your parade", maybe the philzone is not the best venue to host your parade. it rains A LOT here.

Lmao

Enjoy, it's good to see its a benefit show.

Ham & Eggers!

larry is a great player, but without sless im pretty skeptical of this bands guitar abilities. jackie greene + GL isnt exactly a wellspring of powerful playing and creative improvisation.

great to see molitz back in tho. that dude does not play enough live music and often, ive found his more recent shows to be heavily, heavily undersold. ive seen that dude absolutely DEMOLISH a room thats only like 1/4 full. its a very strange dichotomy to see such full, ripping music played to such an empty and quiet room. really hope to catch some more particle shows some day. AFAIK molitzhas been doing mostly non-live music work such as making music for video games or studio work.

Got tix to the 16th today.  Yeah.  DSO Providence 3-12.  Long Island Italian Restaurant 3-13. DSO Redbank 3-14&15.  Then Unbroken Chain.  Gonna be phantastic week in the east.  Smiles

the cap gets all the q shoes.. Have a blast Zonners,  Andy say hi to the Gang..

And here I thought Phil was from Berkeley.....

phil might be from the bay...but shapiro is from brooklyn

>>>>...but shapiro is from brooklyn

And booked this a year in advance... one way or another, shows were a happin'

Grahame will be playing bass for that 17th.
Not sure about other nights.
Was thinking of going. The presale took a couple minutes to pop up, and then the good seats went so fast!
Oh well. Not sure how I feel anpout Q without Phil anyway.

Lol, I logged back in and got some decent ones. 4th row balcony on an aisle. I can do that.
I think we might try to go the night before too, long trip for one show.

I got one for the 17th at 1pm.   Presale

Zooey, thank you so much for being the first sharer of information for us all when it matters most. I credit you very much with keeping this community alive.

Ditto

LLOLLO, our own Julie McCoy

Let's hear it for the ladies <3<3<3

Hey all.  Got floor tix to the 17th for Drew, Suzy and me.  Should be a blast.  And yes, while Graham is not Phil, I am sure he is practicing night and day for his da and will do a phanatstic job on bass.  Going 16th also.  See you all there

Anyone for an incredible Italian meal 3.13 on Long Island at La Famiglia???  Email me.  Andy

PS:  Tom was there and raves about his visit.

Yep I second that One of my Favorite restaurants  in the world

My Bad:  Christine "Lollo" was ther too and raved about the restaurant.  Sorry about that.

That seems like forever-ago.  Fun trip.

So, it sounds like it will not be Grahame playing bass on the 17th.
No word on who it will be, though.

LeshIsLove

Hey Now!

Unfortunately we are unable to make the Unbroken Chain show on Sunday, March 16th. But, the good thing for someone else is we have Row A Balcony tix for sale, for face. BALCRC Row A.

Please hit me up if you are interested!

Anyone for an incredible Italian meal 3.13 on Long Island at La Famiglia???  Email me.  Andy

That's a good restaurant, but I am partial to the 388 Italian in Roslyn......

So, it sounds like it will not be Grahame playing bass on the 17th.
No word on who it will be, though.

even if i loved GL's guitar playing, it still would have been a very strange choice to take the PLF group that plays the longest, most complex and most difficult improv, and put someone who doesnt regularly play bass in phil's spot. ive got to expect its gonna be otiel or gordon. maybe dave from JRAD is also in the running since those guys are so close with shappy/the cap? maybe a bassist from one of warren's bands?

how about Pete Sears on bass for the 17th

Update on schedules of potential bassists for 3/17

Pete Sears = free

Dave Dreiwitz = free

Oteil Burbridge = free, but booked at Sphere beginning 3/20

Mike Gordon = free

Would love to hear Greg Koerner, aka Gent Treadly.
Saw him in the fall with Stanley Jordan.
Stanley definitely is not that familiar with much of the GD material, but ads his brand of magic quite well.
That said, Greg K. on bass and Kenwood Dennard on drums, absolutely stole the show. I would see anything with either of them in it.

I doubt it will be Sears or Oteil, but I have nothing to base that on.

Shappy's going to Bust out the Phirst Phil Lesh Holograhm...the 17nth ain't life grand

Does anyone have suggestions on hotels in the area?  Will be attending the 17th with my wife. She missed the Grateful Dead as we met in 1998 and she didn't know anything about the scene. We did the Phil and Friends / Allman Bros. summer tour in 2001 for our honeymoon. She calls The Q 'her Grateful Dead.'  Really looking forward to this show, but as we will be driving up from Baltimore, will need a place to stay after the show.  Thanks all!

Hey Gunkman, closest to the venue is Courtyard Rye, it's like a mile.
But cheaper and still nice is Hyatt House White Plains.
It's maybe 3 miles, quite direct to get to the venue.
It also has suites with full fridge & kitchen sink, etc.
We like to save some $ and make our own food, so it works well for us.

maybe all of them will be bassist

Stamford, CT has some hotels that have worked for me over the years and a really short drive to CT.  If you have Marriott points, the Stamford Marriott is only 20,000 points, almost nothing.  See you the 17th.

On Long Island, " La Famiglia" Italian Restaurant, March 13,.7pm, 641 Old Country Rd, Plainview, NY 1180, (516) 938-2050:

1)  Suzy

2)  Drew

3)  Dan

4)  Andy

5)  ___________________________________ - Anyone else care to join us there for dinner???

How long of a drive from La Famiglia to the venue?

shit Andy my mouth is watering...

How long a drive?    About an hour, but your driving the LIE, crossing the Throgs Neck or Whitestone Bridge, then 95 to Port Chester. Traffic can be a problem.

Hey Tom:  Can I add your name???

I wish Andy , but had already committed to  3 day off for Billy  in NC .. in April , boss is cool but I have to work.. sometimes

Cross posted from the ticket area

Hey now folks

Next weekend is the thing I've been waiting to happen since October 25th.

The good news is I have tickets procured for every night thanks to a kind zoner two of them are miracles.

Aforementioned zoner is not staying over though and I have a room at a good place close to the venue.

It's even a pretty good deal relatively speaking but if anyone would want to split the cost at least two ways or if you want to bring someone else along that would be really helpful.

Preferably someone I know or at least someone that can be vouched for.  I also know this is a long shot because most folks already have plans and people and stuff but I'm usually traveling only with myself in this time of the funds are stretched to the limit.

Thanks for reading if you have

Phantastic Jill,Have fun in that very special room , oh the Cap  Wish I could hop over for this

Jill:  Got free room at marriott stamford 3.16.17.  Already 3 for 2 beds.  You got a travel bed???

I wish I could make this, one of my fav's Jason Crosby is included in line up, just saw him with Panic in AC <3.

I have wonderful memories of all of our shows at the Cap,,,have a good time all !

My commitment to drive 10 hours to South Carolina ( Fort Jackson ) to see my wonderful nephew Ryan graduate from boot camp and into the Bomb Squad training in Army next week !!   I had custody of him thru child services for a few years and am so proud of him at 23 ( they grow so fast). His mom, my sis is doing great now also and recovered for many years, proud of her too.

It will be 5 days and I am not familiar with Military Base, so it should all be interesting and exciting !

I do miss our Phil shows...again have fun making wonderful memories kids <3

Aw thanks so much Andy!

And by the way, you were vouched for (;

I'm going to stick with the rooms I have though just because they're there in a block of course if it comes down to it and I end up without the funds I could always do like a klarna pay even though that's not without interest

Anyhow I'm still voting for rotating basis on the 17th but also Mike Gordon

If Sirius radio wasn't just a vehicle for Bobby it would be broadcast live there as well

Had no clue there was a Friday show

surpriseblushcheeky

See Ya Freaks on Monday, Possibly Sunday too......

Coyotte~

My son just guessed Paul McCartney for bass on 3/17.
That Would Be Something

But seriously, I can see Oteil being needed in Las Vegas for DeadCo prep.  So, what's your guess for bass on 3/16 and 3/17:  Schools, Gordon, DSO guy?   Any other guesses?

So excited to see Jimmy playing again!!

schools is another good guess for folks who might start showing up on bass in potential future shows/lineups attempting to fill the phil void, assuming they happen at all. for every other spot in a band playing dead tunes we have these huge lists of potential players, but it seems like a lot of the potential bass players coming from the pre-otiel days are no longer with us or havent played GD music in a pretty long time and its pretty tough to guess who might fill that slot in this and in potential future shows with GL and/or former friends.

I'd bet Schools tags along wioth Jimmy and plays the last two shows.

I've got to believe Ross James will make an appearance on bass at least once over the weekend.

Wait

Which day is the street dedication?

Please say on his birthday

the 14nth at 2 pm I think jill

February 20, 2025
The village of Port Chester, New York, and The Capitol Theatre, the historic music venue located there, have announced plans for a special permanent tribute to late Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh. He will be honored with a street dedication at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. “Phil Lesh Lane” will be unveiled at a celebratory ceremony taking place on  March 14 before the four-night “Unbroken Chain: A Celebration of the Life and Music of Phil Lesh” series of concerts at The Cap coinciding with what would have been Lesh’s 85th birthday on March 15. taken from the Caps FB page

Thanks for the Street info Tom.  I'll take a photo of sign for you.  Smiles devil

Oh no.

Andy did you have that room for Friday? Is that what the day was for

If that's the case and it's still available yes please and thank you

Or if anyone has couch space because my ass is too old for a floor anymore I have to be there

These should be worthy shows.  Good on you all making the pilgrimage.  Safe travels.

Phil Graham  mage let the Magic Hapen the best Bombs were PHIL BOMBS,Thanks Andy oui expecting a Phull reportage, cant believe I started this thread to lance A rumeur

If someone would kindly take s pic of Phil Lesh Lane sign....appreciated <3

I am off on a trekk to South Carolina from Jersey tonight, So very proud of my nephew for graduating into the Bomb Squad and IT Engineer !

Have fun everyone, remembering Phil !

Jill:  Sun/Mon night

Thanks Andy!

Given what I heard in that short interview with Bob, Mickey and Bill, right after Phil passed, about their plans to get the core four together, what is the thinking about any of those remaining original members showing up? Or would it be a distraction? Or would they have put it on the playbill? Too small of a venue? Would it add or take away from the vibe?

It would be cool if any of them showed up to participate in the Phil celebration, maybe to share a memory or say something about Phil.  As players in those lineups I think it would be a distraction.

Do not want Bobby playing music there

Hard stop

I have a GA ticket available for the "Q" show on the 17th, St. Patrick's Day.  It can transfer via Ticketmaster.

Zoner discount applies :-)  Email in profile, thank you!

On Monday, March 17, at the Capitol Theater, Haynes is paying tribute to the Grateful Dead’s Phil Lesh, who died on October 24 2024, via Unbroken Chain: A Celebration of the Life and Music of Phil Lesh. “Myself, Jimmy Herring, Rob Barraco, and John Molo are bringing back the Phil Lesh quintet,” he says.

“That was the version of Phil Lesh and Friends that stayed together the longest,” he explains. “The chemistry in that band was fantastic from the very beginning. We all love that band immensely and are excited to get back together and pay tribute to Phil.”

As for how Lesh impacted Haynes specifically, he says: “We all consider ourselves to be brave souls who are willing to make changes, but when you start playing with Phil, you realize that his whole reason for being, musically speaking, is to explore the moment.”

I need some help with my tickets to the 17th. A medical situation has come up and my wife and I can't go.  I'm not a technology wiz at all and this was the first time I ever got E-tickets. Ticketmaster sent a text to my phone that has the two tickets. How can tickets like this get passed along? Will ticketmaster resell them if I contact them and reimburse me? Anyone here interested? They are two balcony seats. They were $200 for the two. I'd be happy to get face value, but more than anything, I'd hate to see them go to waste, so I could really do anything. Thanks in advance for the advice!

That poster is epic

Ticketmaster has an option to forward them it's better to have the app which I know is even more technology but it's a lot easier to use that way

You download it you log in and you go into my events. Then it should say something like forward or whatever and then you I think need the person's email or phone number but there is no refund and the other thing if you really want to get technical there's an app called cash or trade where you will get your value back for what you paid.

I'm so sorry you guys can't go that's a super bummer. I hope whatever it is isn't too serious and whoever it is is better ASAP

pretty good tribute band. they certainly have the firepower up there. Oteil's fingers were flying at one point.

Good stuff.  Not your typical hastily assembled tribute show.  Everyone listening and playing off each other tastefully.  Looking forward to the rest of the run.

Sweet batik Mike.  Where did you get that?

https://www.fourdirectionbatik.com/

I have no connection to the place, other than being a satisfied customer. Their shirts are HQ, but it's custom work, so you're looking at 2-3 months from order to delivery and they're quite pricey.

IMG_0483.jpeg

Have a good show everyone!   If you're on Insta The Cap Theater acct just posted video of Graham, Scott, Nicki and others playing in the lobby for a blood drive!

I'm wearing my Phil hoody today, hugs to all !

Great batik, Mike

Maybe on a black shirt. I'll take a XXL. When will they be made up?

And I would go for a poster too.

I ordered a blue one. My receipt says "Our turnaround time can be anywhere from 8 - 10 weeks from the date of purchase."

Ordered a black one. I was hoping that was something you were doing Mike.  But I can't pass that up.

At the beginning of this thread I poo-pooed these shows, but I must admit there's an excellent symmetry and sharp, relaxed groove to this group; they're sounding real good.

I guess I should have known better. I watched the dishwashers & the one-offs grow from the beginning and I've seen & heard the improvement over the years. Add in the emotional aspect of these shows along with perhaps just a bit of freedom without the master onstage with them has things sounding just fine.

On it goes.

LONG LIVE PHIL LESH!!!!!!

LONG LIVE THE GRATEFUL DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having a rush of feelings for Phil, the people we love, the old clubhouse, the music, how it weaves in and out of our lives and all that encompasses.

Set list?

heart jamjuice, so nice to see you.

Mike, I hope someone will post the list, I'd like to see it, too. These guys can play!

Set 1 from Setlist FM>>

Friend of the Devil     Deal     Althea      Peggy O     Crazy Fingers     Stella     He's Gone     Cold Rain

It was touching last night when grahame did the donor rap, he totally lost it... I did too. Very emotional show(s). Tonight sounds great so far, Crazy Fingers and Stella were perfect! Way too many guitars, but as mentioned above, so far it has worked pretty well.

Thanks, krab. You can rewind Taper Rob's stream, but I wasn't sure if FOTD was the opener.

Good evening friends. Feeling blue, missing Phil. Lots of love to you all

Well, hello there, Miss Merriweather. Love to you.

As Jill would say, I love us.

And Phil, well, Phil.

Who are the two guys playing bass?

Clubhouse 3_1.jpg

Hi Judit.  Bittersweet day, Pete always does the sad stuff. He took all of Phil's gear out of the clubhouse today. Loving the stream though.

That sounds big. Give my (our) love to Pete, please.

The music carries us.

Wow.

What an honor.

And who's more deserving?

My hat's off to the man at the door.

And on it goes.

Far out.

Can't wait to see Pete's Clubhouse museum wing at your place ...LOL

Happy 85th Phil

I just listened to Grahame's donor rap from the first night.

I already knew this, but he's a good egg.

25 extra years. For him, for his family, for all of us.

Atta' boy kid.

Carry it on.

Taper's Notes: Dark Star, The Other One played by Brian Rashap and Oteil using "Big Brown"

SEE YOU KIDS TONIGHT!!!!!  Just grabbed one on stubhub for 40 bucks!!!

Coyotte~

Another amazing night of music.  Lots of great moments. Lovely to dance with some zoners!

hoping for a bustout of elevator. AFAIK the last time phil played it was in 2011 with furthur, i dont recall it being played at any of the TXR shows that molitz showed up for.

Daylight, I second that!!!!   Havent seen one since The Nokia Days!!!!!!   We can only Hope....

Need to catch up... listening to Friday show ... hadn't noticed the link further up... thanks all!

On the way to the cap.  See you zoners there tonight.  Smiles devil

If you subscribe to nugs you can watch the webcasts for free. The first two nights are still up on the site. Also, the shows are streamed live on Sirius XM 23 -GD channel.

Daylight, I second that!!!!   Havent seen one since The Nokia Days!!!!!!   We can only Hope....

i was lucky enough to catch one at BGCC for phils 70th - at the time i was pretty new to GD music and had never heard of molitz or particle - having this crazy electronic dance number emerge out of the other one was so unexpected for me, it was like being transported to a different concert that just emerged from nothing in an instant. id guess that many of the big phil lesh heads were expecting an elevator, but for me it was kind of a mindblowing moment to have music like that emerge out of a GD song.

Phil zone for life all day

Alls I need now is $80

Mike

 that dare is still on the table

~~~(:
Sweet offer, Jill. No dare taken.
I did custy up and pulled the trigger on one of those batiks in purple for myself tho. Turns out my reasons for not getting one were pretty lame in the scheme of things.
Are there other posters for this run aside from the one posted above?
What's at $happy's Ge$tapo Merch table?
Keep Your Lamps - wondered if they would do some non-GD songs that Phil and Friends covered.  On track for four nights and no repeats.
sleepy set 1
JGreene=Sugaree...
Ham & Eggers!
Sounds like they're having fun.
And I'm having fun listening!
I hope Oteil is on bass tomorrow.  Last two nights were lightning in a bottle I thought.  I have two balcony seats for Monday tomorrow and my wife and I can't make it. If someone needs these please let me know. I'd take what someone can afford, as I'd hate to see them go to waste.  They are an E-tickets on my phone from ticketmaster. I'm technically incompetent and have no idea how to forward these along.
I felt that Grahame did his Dad justice playing Big Brown last night, Phil would be proud!!!!!!  I enjoyed the show,  Back Tonight Kids Cant wait for THE Q!!!!
 Coyotte~
I could use a last minute ticket, I'm outside the cap. Please and thankyou
JB
Looks like Warren is playing Wolf!  Brought Streetvan to mind.
Darkstar opener!
Definitely Warren with Wolf.   And so great see Jimmy sounding wonderful.
Set One:
Dark Star
Viola Lee Blues >
Doin' That Rag
Passenger
Bird Song
The Wheel
Viola Lee Blues >
Rock-n-Roll Blues
Liberty
Grahame on Big Brown entire second set so far. Powerful stuff here...
Thank you, Taper Rob. The audio is great, but no he has no video so extra thanks for the Big Brown mention, Canyon.
So appreciated that Nugs broadcast this run. Thought tonight was rock solid.  Thought the first two nights were lightning in a bottle. Only caught the last three songs on Sunday and it seemed pretty pedestrian. Hopefully earlier parts of Sunday were smokin'.  My final take is that Oteil filled the Phil void like none of the other bass players did and the players on Thursday and Friday had bigger ears and put out a terrific soundscape that was almost perfectly shaked and blended.
If you ever had a son you would want him to be like Grahame.
I thought they did a Viola Lee reprise somewhere in that second set as well, but as always I may be mistaken. Hot show for sure.
So, was that the final performance of the Hallowed Q - 1?
If so that's a heavy set list and a pretty classic Q set list.
I'm sure there was a lot of emotion in that room tonight, both in the crowd and on the stage, and I can only imagine what singing that Unbroken Chain must have been like for Grahame.
Personally, I felt a lot of sadness listening to the first two nights featuring many of the TxR regulars who I saw play with Phil so often, rekindling in my mind that that place and time is over. It's sad to think about all that, but god damn, what a ride Phil and his friends gave us over the years.
It's good grief, for sure.
Overall it seemed like it was a successful run of shows. I hope everyone who attended got what they were looking for, or at least got what they needed.
Atta' boy Phil.
On it goes.
A Box sandwich !
Loves it!
Lance you are 1000% accurate
And
Then
The
Q
and JB I sure hope you got in
Hearing No More Do I puts me right back in the moment, ca early 2000s, we had it so good. Feels like yesterday, where did the time go?
30 years of Unbroken Chain....Almost 30  to the day after the Unbroken Chain debut in Philly
I got in, what a show!  Phil ❤️
Grahame on bass was a pleasant surprise. He held it down. Judging by these shows a yearly repeat celebration is in order. Phil Lesh week to honor the man who gave us so much. Phil & Phriends should continue on even if the conductor is no longer with us. Show goes on & yes it won't be same but it would make me very happy. TaperRob thanks for the happiness throughout the years! Judit & friends great job keeping the Philzone alive longer than technology KUDOS!
BEST
NEWS!
There is nothing not to say about last night
Back in the original days if anyone remembers my reviews they pretty much went like this
The show was everything the power and the glory please and thank you please and thank you
Besides the street naming this was why I was there. I wanted to be there for his birthday and his celebration but like 90% of the people I talked to last night were only in for the Q
It was just really special in every way
When Grahame started to lose it a little bit during the donor rap
It just really felt like all of us were there to love on his dad and it was the only night where I fully felt his presence.
Y'all I FELT & heard him last night and it wasn't the drugs devil
My North Star may be gone but his midnight North child is here to stay
"Atta' boy Phil.
On it goes."
Major kudos to Grahame Lesh "the price we pay." The lad was criticized a lot here for years, I think unfairly. He has come a long way since playing the side stage with his brother at the Furthur Festival. He is a mature adult and confident to share the stage with exceptional musicians. His father's legacy is in good hands.
And we are a lucky few who were along for the ride with the Q.
I had the good fortune of going to every show.  I had planned on one, but next thing I knew I was encouraged by the music and friends to see all 4.    Thanks Andy Tahoe for making Sunday and Monday happen! I thought I'd feel more run down , but actually energized with a side of tired is more accurate.  Going home each night and getting up at 5am for work Monday and Tuesday was not my idea of post show activity.  I was willing and able so that's in me. ...
Every show was stand out delicious! Each with their highlights brought on by the variety of musicians participating.  Jennifer Hartswick was on absolute fire.  I could rave about them all , but you'll just have to listen to the "tapes".
Not only did each different band work , but they were all excellent.  Different styles each night.
That said,  nothing compared with the Q!  They actually felt and sounded like a band as opposed to a bunch of musicians on stage playing my favorite songs.  Monday night game changer for real.
The Q also had the best sound.  It was dialed in tight and OH THE TONE!! It made all the difference.   When they played Birdsong I was balling my eyes out.
I knew the 4 shows were going to be a form of closure for me as I still digest the loss of Phil.  And that they were.  But they also served as a wonderful new beginning as we turn the page on this great story we are all written into.
Amazing Time
Amazing Music
Amazing Dancing
Amazing Zoners
Amazing Love and Hugs.
PS
Grahame was wonderful filling his dad's shoes, but more importantly filling his own.
Hey Trailhead:  Great right up and thz for the mention. Spot on review.  Glad yuu had a phun time.  Me, feeling better.  Bizarre! And that Italian Restaurant on Long Island.  PHANTASTIC as always!!!
glad you kids had a ball
Jimmy Herring.........Fuck yea
Last Night was just Bittersweet.... Nice to see ya Trailhead and all the other old school Zoners that said Hello...I thought and felt that last night was really special and Important to Close a chapter of our lives, But Trail head put it into perspective, It's The Opening of The next chapter in the novel of our lives... Yes, I even got a little teared up last night. Grahame made his Family Very Proud. You could see the look of Love and Concern  on the faces of the other band members.   Long Live Phil and The Phil Zone, They brought so many of us together over the years and some long lasting friendships....
TY MIke.  Real fine of you to you to upload for us.  Much appreciated.
My pleasure, Andy and Jill.
I don't think anybody's mentioned yet that the band played for almost four hours on Monday. The first set runs about 1:36 and the second about 2:15.
Oh well. I'm surprised they lasted as long as they did.
Screenshot_20250320_130652_0.png
I'm going to start a new thread for a video vine of the Monday show. I'll send out the show as hi-rez MP4s (1920x1080) on a USB drive.
that reminds me!
Grahame said they were late and would do a "little more music" which lasted like a half hour
moonday satisfied every last craving and need for THIS lineup
Grahame on FB:
It’s difficult to find the words but I’m going to try to write a little something about the incredible Unbroken Chain shows at the Capitol Theatre. The main thing I want to do is thank all the amazing folks who made this four day tribute to my dad happen.
First! Peter & the Cap crew - especially the people behind the scenes who I was so thrilled to see again. There are too many to name, but you have all become like family to my family over the years. It was wonderful to see amazing folks like Eliot running the stage crew and Ollie at the backstage door. Here’s to many more hangs at the Cap, y’all!
Peter came to me in November to let me know that the dates around my dad’s birthday were available to us if we wanted to hold an event, and throughout the process he & the team were open to our conception of how the weekend would go. From adding the charity components to keeping the ticket prices as low as we could while still getting this insane lineup of musicians gathered - the whole Cap team was so supportive and it showed in the music.
Then of course none of this would have happened without the Phil & Friends crew. First & foremost the great Molly Bills running shit. Molly was the one who this event happen. We also had Rashap pulling double duty production managing AND performing on my dad’s Big Brown bass. Then the whole PLF team - Scott, Yuek, Derek, Chad, Shaun, Summer, Jason, Eric, Peter, Perry. Everyone just rules and makes these amazing shows happen.
And the 29 musicians who joined me on stage. Every one of them had performed with my dad before - the Chain is Unbroken. From the mighty White Cloud John Molo, the MVP of the weekend, who had held down drums with my dad since 1998 with the Other Ones, to fellow bass player Oteil who moved off bass to jam on drums with us at our Terrapin Clubhouse Darkstarathon last year, everyone who got on that stage had an important history with my dad and his music.
I have so many musical highlights in my memories from the weekend that I will only be able to fit a few of them into this post. I will always remember Amy & Alex Koford joining me on harmonies to open the whole show with an acoustic “Box Of Rain” - an opening concept for the run that my mom & I both came up with. Kraz & Rick’s guitar fireworks and guitar bromance developing on either side of me was beautiful to behold - two of my favorite players really connecting through this music. The night two Dark Star jam to open the 2nd set with Oteil on drums and Rashap & Minkoff on double-bass was epic and unforgettable. Jackie leading us through “Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks)” on night 3 was such a thrill. And finally, the entire night 4 with the mighty Phil Lesh Quintet was such magic - I can’t even pick a specific moment.
In addition to simply performing this amazing music, I wanted to honor my dad by using these shows to raised funds and awareness for the causes that our family believes in. To that end, over four nights we raised over $125,000 EACH for Undue Medical Debt and MusiCares, two absolutely amazing charities. Undue Medical Debt will use those funds to erase an absolutely insane amount of medical debt. By buying medical debt at a discount and just…forgiving it, each $1 donated to Undue can erase about $100 of medical debt for people across the country. Folks receive letters saying that their medical debt is no longer owed, and no taxes, penalties, or strings are attached. And MusiCares directly helps the people behind the music across our musical community. Mental health and recovery services, health assistance, and support for basic living expenses during times of hardship for people in the music world. In places like Los Angeles in the long aftermath of the fires, MusiCares is doing amazing work and I am so happy to support them with these shows.
And of course, we held a blood drive on Saturday that fully filled up its sign up sheet! It was wonderful to make some acoustic music for the folks that came to donate blood at Garcia’s. The Red Cross collected blood donations from 34 people, which was way more than their goal of 22. Also, 12 of them were first time donors! The Red Cross let us know that each blood donation can save the life of more than one person, so we thank all of you who came by and we hope you enjoyed some bonus acoustic music from me, Ross, Alex, Scott, & Holly!
Oh wow, I keep thinking of more people! Sam Watson took all of these amazing photos. Our dear friend Emily braided my hair on Sunday, which was very fun. I was so thrilled to see Ayla Casey at all of these shows.
And of course, my beautiful wife Claire was there supporting me (literally on Friday when I could barely make it through the organ donor rap) the whole time. Her folks Kim & Clay were there to support as well, which made me so happy. Our nephew Levon was the star of the Friday dedication of Phil Lesh Lane and the cake on Saturday! And of course my mom and my brother in California sending their love to all of us from the West Coast.
Finally, thank you to everyone who came to these 4 shows, who watched these shows on streams, who came to any Phil show ever, or who loved my dad and his music. We love you too!
It’s all another link in the Unbroken Chain
